    This video on the Shinko 705's is exactly what I was looking for; same Honda, same style of riding and surfaces. Thanks you from Ontario.

      Just be careful of the unpredictable nature of the grip on gravel. The front can wash out quickly. Cheers 🙂

    I was looking at 705’s myself.
    Here’s the RMMC description.
    The Shinko 705 is a DOT Compliant dual sport tire designed for 80% street and 20% trail riding. A versatile tread pattern provides excellent wet and dry weather adhesion and smooth running on the highway.
    Rubber compound resists tearing during off road use.
    4-ply construction.

      I like them, but if you get them you have to accept their dirt limitations. They perform well enough on dirt in most instances if it's not muddy and such, but they can surprise you with the front end suddenly slipping out on gravel.

      I love them on the tarmac. Check out my 'I Crashed My CRF300L' video ( ruclips.net/video/wex5nX9U5Gg/видео.html ). Scary how unpredictable it was, and in terrain that is easy. Now I'm a bit nervous taking them off road at all. Aside from this crash, the 705 front tire has suddenly slipped out on me on good gravel roads, whereas on other tires I haven't had the front end slip like that in many years. It's just not predictable on dirt. Might have sometime to do with the front tire being out of round by 3mm, but unlikely.

    My 300l had these on when I purchased it. Loved them on the street. Gravel/dirt roads and basic trails were absolutely fine especially if not overly wet. I switched to more aggressive tires only because I've started riding to trails that are frequently muddy (with some fairly deep water holes) and include some punchy climbs.
    Really miss the great on pavement feel with the 705's though. Never had a supermoto but in my mind gives a taste of what that's about. Would be nice to have a 2nd set of wheels to keep the Shinko's on.

    The SHINKO 244's work great on pavement and gravel roads excellent tires. I find for me the 244s seem all around better as pot holes and lose gravel on paved back highways they seem to handle better.

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  Год назад +1

      I like the K270's better than the Shinko 244's. They both have similar tread patterns but Shinko's speed rating for the 244 front tire size is well below the top speed of the bike, so be careful at speed.

    Great video! The klr im getting next week has these on it and I was scared to death I wouldn't be able to take it on the double track/atv trails behind my house since I don't have my motorcycle endorsement yet and was afraid these tires would just have me eating dirt constantly on anything but pavement since I've only ridden dirt bikes with knobbies before.

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  3 месяца назад

      They will certainly do dirt, but you do have to be cautious of how they handle some loose gravel situations. The front can unexpectedly wash out, so get accustumed to them gradually I'd say.

    • @Catboy-hr2qp
      @Catboy-hr2qp 3 месяца назад

      @Scoottoots yah thats what I was afraid of, I will be swapping the tires ASAP but I have to do a valve adjustment on it first so may not have the money to do so right away, hence why I was trying to see how the 705s do on dirt roads and smoother double track which your video answered

      @@Catboy-hr2qp The best 50/50 tire, if that suits you best, that I have used are the Kenda K270's. They track well on gravel and handle most dirt scenarios really well, while providing good performance on tarmac. They do get a tad squirmy though when leaned over hard on pavement though as the side knobs flex a bit.

I have a set of K270's waiting in the garage for my Rally, have a few more rides worth of life left in the stock IRCs before I spoon those on. Oh, and judging by the fact that you've uploaded this ride - I assume you didn't get stuck, fuel-less on the side of a mountain, so that's a plus 😆Cheers!

      Ha, yeah it's B.C. alright. And yup, tubeless front tire and tube type on the rear in those sizes. No I don't use rim locks as I run street pressures off road. Pretty much always have.

    It's time to replace the front on my klx250 and I've found that I ride on the road more than I thought I would. I'm thinking about a 705 but I might want something a little more aggressive for the rear when the time comes. I live in Arizona, there's not much mud ,a little sand sometimes tho.

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  11 месяцев назад +2

      I had a couple bad experiences on the 705 front tire since this video. It washed out unexpectedly and suddenly in easy terrain. It left me with doubts. I'd say the front tire needs to hold the line in dirt, more than the rear tire needs traction if a person was heavily compromising on tire choice for dirt. Another option is the Kenda K270. It's a great 50/50 tire; holds the line in dirt and is fine on pavement.

    • @Scoottoots

      I'm fairly happy with the 705's thus far. If it weren't for the front tire being out of round, they'd be perfect for me. Having the front end tuck on gravel is not a happy dance. It's a good heads-up though :-)

    Mr Toots ... My CRF250 wobbles side to side at 75mph (almost flat out on a straight road). It has the original tires. I've put a small windscreen on it, no change to forks springs or shock.
    What are your thoughts? Would a more road focused tire help?

    • @Scoottoots
      @Scoottoots  Год назад

      It shouldn't be wobbling at that speed. My crf250l was fairly stable at speed, even with stock tires. That said, when those stock IRC tires are still somewhat new, they can feel like that. If your tires are pretty new, they will likely improve as they wear a bit. Otherwise, check your front end for play at the headstock, and watch your inputs on the bars. It's a light bike with a narrow front tire, so it requires more finesse at speed.

    • @coolbananaboy5075
      @coolbananaboy5075 Год назад

      @@Scoottoots Thanks John. (I hope I remembered that OK).
      I'll check the headstock for looseness.
      Tires are not very new ... newest thing is the the small windscreen, and I don't recall having the wobble before installing the windscreen (but I don't frequently get up to 75mph).
      If headstock is OK then I'll remove the windshield and try again.

    • @Scoottoots
