UPDATED: Latest Patch 1.1 adds offline support and fixes the keyboard so my complaints are gone - www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/10/tony-hawks-pro-skater-1-2-adds-offline-support-for-steam-deck/
It’s funny that it requires you to be online to get past the start screen but fails to connect to the online servers for the game the entire time you’re playing. So there’s a pop up in the top right corner
**UPDATE**: Online play is fixed with "Proton Hotfix" as of October 6th. Buy from Humble Store with my partner link to support the channel: www.humblebundle.com/store?partner=gamingonlinux
I'm hoping after this that the Kingdom Hearts series from Epic Games Store will finally be brought over to Steam now, its frankly bizarre its been sitting on Epic Games Store forever and no indication of when those will be ported over to Steam, its the last thing we need from that Store (I waited very patiently for this to happen but I gave up a while back and bought them on EGS on sale and I know I am going to regret it when they are brought to Steam but its a very expensive package when bundled together). I do agree Tony Hawk is ridiculous the single player parts of the game has to be locked online. Its a classic game, the single player parts should be offline.
Thanks for the heads up, I refuse to buy any game that has online DRM. Steam will always let you download a delisted game that you purchased. I don't like that the publisher can just shutdown the DRM server and you can't play a game you paid you. I guess this is why the game might be on sale right now.
Was THPS always online on the Epic store too? I tried the Epic version on Steam Deck awhile back. It seemed to run adequately, but the cloud saves didn’t work. I was hoping that the Steam version would address that problem, but the always online requirement mostly negates the benefit.
It was. Same on both stores. You need to be online to start the game, but you can drop the connection right after and it will work fine. I did this back in February on a long plane ride. Started the game at home, put it in sleep, then woke it in the plane and played for hours.
@@lpnp9477 no, because it was using denuvo. the steam release removes denuvo so all it needs is a simple steam emulator to make the game think that its connected to steam
Thank you sir for informing us of the always online requirement for the snigle player content. Before i watched this video i had already bought the game and didn't know it was in the game i was so excited that the price tag was cheap and it was off the epic games store and was playable on deck. After watching your video i decided to refund the game and will not buy it again untill they take the online requirement out for single player.
I Made a Hotspot and after Boot Connection i turnd Hotspot Off , sleep Mode for two days and Play IT offline ....but i agree they should come Up with the regular Steam Protektion or offline drm .... thats super anoying and i bought IT now in ps4 , Epic and Steam ....only offline way is To use the Switch Version and Emulator IT but that will give shitty Performance and visuals compared To the PC Version soooo i Stück with my Hotspot Method for booting rthe Game and Turn IT Off after iam in
Dang, I was actually thinking about getting it when I saw that it was on sale, but I agree that forced online is a bad thing. Why would I pay for a graphics overhaul and broken multiplayer services when I can run my PSone versions through a portable emulator that will likely draw less power? Thanks Liam for the news on this, I will pass for sure.
Ah tony hawk. The one series i played a various points over decades, and somehow never got any better at it lmao. I find these games like impossibly difficult to get good at bc they are kinda like fighting games with the precise inputs required to do well, but its way harder bc you can fall on top of the super complex controls. Just not a series ill ever like, but i used to skate in the late 80s so im like weirdly nostalgic for this shit even though i hate it 😆
The publishers "wont learn" because they still keep making sales, I dont know many gamers who care much about these things. And being always online will make piracy harder, so they will make even more sales. That's the logic.
love this game on my ally/ PC and have enjoyed it but heard lots of negativity about its release on social media saying online is totally broken on the PC and console versions. so, buyer beware or wait for a sale id say. really fun game but id probably recommend emulating...
Bought it at release but I’ve been playing No Mans Sky. I had to take my daughter to cheer today so I thought I’ll play some Tony Hawk booted it up for the first time and… nope. I will be refunding it as soon as I get home.
online has been broken on playstation as well for at least a year, and with the developers getting swallowed into call of duty i don’t see it being fixed. damn shame
Yeah I bought the game on EGS but refunded it when I found out about the always online thing... Guess I'll just pirate the old og xbox version instead!
I pray mods save this game, hopefully we could see forced online removed, cosmetic mods like pro skatets get full board customization and maybe clothing customization. Heck if someone wants to really put it to the limits a full on re model of all legacy pros.

Yeah, annoying.
You are the first reviewer to tell people this game requires online.
Thank you!
That's bullshit and I won't be picking it up.
If they have forced online, I will just pirate it. not to be illegal, but just to be able to play it.
Good luck with that brother
No crack exists. Only emulation of Switch version.
@@TakumiJoyconBoyz wrong, Steam release had Denuvo removed. RUNE release came out last night

Can you update your curator recommendation on steam to reflect this update?

Such a pity it's forced online. I would've bought it again (already have it on xbox) for my steam deck otherwise.
apparently that's removed now, don't take my word for it though, literally just seeing that in the description and comments now lol
@@AndrewDaniele87 Thanks for reminding! Indeed they have removed it a few weeks ago and I immediately bought it! Works wonderfully on Steam Deck!

Shame about the forced online. Waited all this time and I guess I'm waiting longer. Deal breaker for me.
