  • #Wings is a WWI movie that was the first to win the Academy Award for Best Film, starring #ClaraBow #RichardArlen and #CharlesRogers . In one of his first screen appearances, this brief scene with #GaryCooper was all anyone could talk about. When he appeared on the big silver screen women were so smitten and swoon that they fainted in movie theaters around the world!

I am a silent film buff from Japan and it's a shame my English being way too rudimentary to express myself how I am impressed with this scene.
This brief scene, in my view, encapsulates how wonderful Gary Cooper had been as an actor.

Damn, Hot lips, that's quite a list you've got there for comparison. Are those the ones that, today, would or could be compared to Coop in any way (by you), OR, are those names that you believe other people would consider as such.
Clara Bow is one of my favorites, flapper wild-child, beautiful lady, innovator, good actress. Put with that her Brooklyn accent, and you've got semi-retirement. Married a cowboy. And, no offense meant, as to the name I used to address you - bad joke day. You have a good take on it and I was just wondering about the comparisons. ✌️♥️

I've been a Gary Cooper fan since I was a kid. My maternal grandmother got me watching his movies as her Tribe is from Montana he was from.
As I aged, I began to see the sparsness of his acting as a technique that worked tremendously well.
In school, I acted in plays and then moved to California and worked in dinner theater there before joining the military.
People think acting is easy; it's not. Especially if you want the audience to have any belief in what you're doing.
Gary Cooper left the world far too soon. He may have had many affairs; however, there were always willing women to join him in those trysts.
Many thanks for uploading this scene. I didn't really want to watch the entire film for the one scene.
Mr. Cooper and I share some other similarities. I'm 6'3", as he was. I wear size 14 shoes as he did. And, when not ill, as I am now, I weigh in at about 180 pounds. I, too, love fast cars. My current car will top out at just shy of 200 mph. I love riding motorcycles. One thing I'm not very great at that he was skilled in horseback riding. I've owned horses and can canter like a madman. I just don't have that glued on appearance that Gary Cooper had every time I see him on a horse. Yes, that's envy!
This is a dash indelicate; however, I'm simply making an equivalent comparison. He and I both seemed to attract a fair few young women. As my first wife and I were divorcing, I was 35. My attorney was a friend, and during a meeting, he informed me that his 21-year-old secretary wanted to date me. Well, date me was a new expression for what she actually wanted from me. That pattern continued for some time until I finally found my second wife. Who I am entirely in love with and faithful to, always.
I have already lived longer than Gary Cooper, which, during my combat time, wasn't always easy. Funny thing is, I'm a fatalist as the character in the film is and as he was in real life apparently, too. Yet, I'm still standing and still watching great Gary Cooper movies!

Gary Cooper aside, Richard Arlen and Buddy Rogers are no slouches either. Even though this is in black and white, take a look at Arlen's eyes. From the way they reflect the light every time, you can see he had bright baby blue eyes. Any other color would have appeared dark.

Great scene, great career. Gary Cooper has always been my favorite. He was a Top Ten Actor (per the old Quigley surveys) for 25 years straight - puts him (and John Wayne) atop a very small group of film stars. More modern fans seem to prefer an anti-hero - you'd think Humphrey Bogart topped Gary while both were alive, but not even close. Enjoy! And thanks for keeping these old movies alive.

It was insane how hot Gary Copper was.
He had everyone throwing themselves at him, from women to men…
    He was just that beautiful.
From that tall, athletic build, to his eyes, to that chiseled face… to that hair…
Unbelievably hot. This man just raised temperatures.
