I actually had to look up what this was slang for in the 1950s, apparently a bird-dog is someone who steals another person's date! Yes, Gary Cooper could be rather humorous lol, though he usually didn't show it!

@@vintagegoldenage I laughed hard with his movie The cowboy and the lady, where he was shy and awkward towards the rich girl, he was just amazing. His daughter says he was so good laughing at himself.
