I prefer light flannels for summer and spring (maybe even fall) just because it feels, well light. And I would go with a T, underneath it with some goofy picture or text. During winter, I would mostly have my thick flannel buttoned, to keep me warm.

You can find plaid shirts for men at many places. Check H&M, Zara, and Uniqlo.
