  • In this video I show you how I normally test the seat belt pretensioner when I get B2292 fault code. I also show you how I simulate the pre-tensioner just to make sure if the component is faulty or wiring.

    I like the simplicity of the home made resistor been using it for years in the dealership I work at so great video nicely presented as all ur content is....but I've now moved on to a decade box n switch between them both....great channel brilliant...

    I was working on my 2010 ford ranger and my simple Bluedriver scanner pulled this code for the air bag light. It came on intermittently and I was able to isolate it to a faulty connection to the pretensioner. It's important to me to be aware of any precautions to take when servicing an SRS system and to understand how things I work on actually work ! I learn best by seeing things actually applied so I watch a lot of relevant videos. This by far was the best, thanks for sharing your skill and knowledge !

      Thanks for watching. This scan tool was Carman Scan but many other scan tools can do very same thing. It’s really depends on the type of cars that you are working on. This scan tool is good mostly on Korean and Japanese cars.

    I have a 6 ohm resistor that was used on a LED taillight, can that be used to test or does it need to be 2.2 ohm?

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  2 месяца назад

      Hi my friend. 6 ohm is a little high, but sometimes airbag unit considers it in range and accepts it. The best thing is to check the live data after inserting the resistance, if you see it shows almost 6 ohm it means that pretensioner was broken.

    thanks for the video, i have a question, how did you determine the two wires responsible for the resistance

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  8 месяцев назад +1

      The best way is by using the wiring diagram. The alternative is just to trace the wires. There were two wires for the buckle switch and two for the pretensioner, just trace the wires and you will find out.

    Hi was wondering if maybe you could help me
    I changed my seats in my Vauxhall vivaro van 2013
    And fitted bmw e60 Lci front seats
    Can I use the bmw pretensioners or would you recommend to swap them back to the Vivaro tensioners
    Really appreciate any advice

    Good teching, May I ask question, What is the object you used for simulation?

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Год назад +2

      Hi There, Thanks for your comment. That's a 2 Ohms resistor. Because the internal resistance of pre-tensioner and airbag is about 2 ohms we can simulate it like this to find the problem.

    Hi,
    What type of tool do i need to use to find out the right amount of resistor to use?
    In your case how did you know the tensioner needed a 2.2Ohms?
    Can i use a ohm meter?
    Thsnks,

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Год назад +1

      Hi there, normally you can find the value from the workshop manual or scan tool, you see the resistance value in this video when I show the live data. The common resistance value on many make and models is between 1.8 to 2.2 ohms. Also, you should NEVER check the internal resistance of pre-tensioner or airbag as they might get deployed!

    • @AutomotiveDiagnosis
      @AutomotiveDiagnosis  Год назад

      Yes, normally airbags resistance is similar, we can simulate them in a same way but JUST for diagnostics.

      Wattage doesn't matter. The current going through the wire is almost zero.
