I was a Reserve Officer for 5 years with St Louis Park PD. It was a great experience. Unfortunately I had to resign because of the demands of my full time income job. Lots of Cities also have programs called Citizen Police Academy. I am also a graduate of Both St Louis Park PD and Hennepin County Sheriff Citizen Academy programs. I recommend all these opportunities. All I did was contact the community service officers at the Department to see if they offer these programs with your cities PD or Sheriff office. If they do they will be happy to get you the information to apply and participate. Go for it.
If you want to be a reserve officer for Eden Prairie specifically, here's their page about it on their website (click on the "reserve" tab): www.edenprairie.org/city-government/departments/police-department/police-department-volunteer-opportunities If you were thinking a different city, I'm sure you can Google it and find something about it on their website. You could also look into your local sheriff's office. Just remember that sheriff's offices have county-wide jurisdiction, so you would probably have to be willing to do more driving.
