It still blows my mind that such a large portion of the audience missed what was actually going on between two exes who still had feelings for each other and blamed each other for their breakup in this episode.
I mean, why did they think the door was opening when Marceline was asking "why do I want to..." "why do I want to...?" And then shut itself when she caught herself and said "bury you in the ground" instead of what she actually meant?

I saw the episode when I was in fourth or fifth grade, I think, and tbh, I thought they're just former friends that broke off their friendship somehow, but now they miss each other.
When I found out later that they're ex-girlfriends that broke up and now they miss each other, it suddenly made MORE SENSE

First of all, your voice is.. well... ok, you are awesome, everyone can see that. It's a fact. And I love how you complete the song.
But more importantly: the memories. Look, I'm not very old (I'm just fifteen) but I've been on the internet for a while. And I think I can sey with certainty that Adventure Time's fandom was the first fandom I got into. And I got into it _hard_. I watched every episode, read fanfics, listened to covers, argued with people over the show -the tipical "fandomish" stuff. To me, it seems like that was a long time ago (even tho it wasn't). And it just so happens that my first OTP was bubbline, which as you probably know, gets associated with this song quite often.
Even though I don't watch the show anymore, this reminded me of that time. So thanks, I guess. And please, keep being awesome.

That is . . . kinda the whole point of the song? It implies that there were feelings between them and that they are not entirely gone. In the episode the door only opens when someone says the truth (or what they are feeling) so when Marceline doesn't acknowledge her remaining feelings she isn't being honest with herself. She cuts herself off because she doesn't want to think about it.
This was also another way that the writers clued us in to the possibility of a relationship between two female characters while not explicitly saying it to not offend homophobes at a time where the world was not as accepting.

This is my favorite adventure time song because of how it demonstrates just how much marceline actually loves pb, it sounds like it's supposed to be sassy but it's really not, it's her asking what she can do to fix their relationship but because of who she is, she finds it hard to communicate her feelings in a way that actually sounds genuine. She's calling PB stuck up, sure, but she's also implying that her love feels unrequited, she treats PB like a human, a person with flaws and various imperfections and can see she's not just being rude for the sake of it, but PB isn't looking at marceline the same way, or at least that's how she feels which is why she tells her that she doesn't even feel like a person to PB and more like a problem. I know that someone is probably gonna be like "yeah no shit" but even if the message is easy to see, it's a deep one and honestly I feel like it highlights the biggest issue with their relationship, communication
