Announce schedule of hearing petition seeking disqualification of three MLAs within four weeks: Telangana HC directs Assembly speaker
If the schedule is not received within the stipulated time, the High Court would suo moto open the petitions for hearing again, the judge said.
Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed the Secretary of Telangana Assembly to place before the Speaker the petitions seeking disqualification of three MLAs, to fix up the schedule within four weeks for hearing the same.
The petitions were filed against three MLAs - Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari and Tellam Venkat Rao of Khairatabad, Station Ghanpur and Bhadrachalam constituencies respectively. They won the 2023 Assembly elections on the BRS ticket but later joined the Congress party. Two of the writ petitions were filed by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and BJP MLA A. Maheshwar Reddy seeking a direction to disqualify Mr. Nagender while the third one was by BRS MLA K.P. Vivekananda for disqualification of Mr. Srihari and Mr. Venkat Rao.
Disposing of the three pleas, the judge said the HC’s Registrar (Judicial) must be informed of the scheduled fixed by the Speaker of the Assembly for hearing of the petitions (filing of pleadings and documents, personal hearing etc). “If nothing is heard within four weeks, it is made clear that the matter would be reopened suo moto and appropriate orders will be passed,” the verdict said.
