    SUGGESTION: You need to talk about how much it costs to park and service a boat at a marina. That, more than depreciation, is the biggest issue. Most people who are new to boating have NO IDEA. It is not like you can spend $600,000 on a well kept 90' superyacht from the 80s and call it a day.

    • @nslouka90
      @nslouka90 3 года назад +2

      The price can vary for each marina, city and state. There are also costs for things boat size, insurance, utilities and waste disposal that differ from person to person so trying to come up with a ballpark figure can be difficult.

    • @solimanel-deeb8922
      @solimanel-deeb8922 2 года назад +9

      True! In Miami it could cost around $17+/ft for wet slip/parking your boat on water. This could run thousands of dollars per month only to park. So having a boat is like having a second family to support. It would be cheaper if you have your own dock in front of your house. That way pay for your housing and have a free dock instead of paying for dock and not have a house.

    • @norwegianblue2017
      @norwegianblue2017 2 года назад +9

      I know virtually nothing about yachts, but I believe I heard somewhere that you can expect to spend 10% of the yacht's purchase price per year on docking, maintenance, insurance and fuel. The other problem is that, unlike a house, it is a depreciating asset.

    • @gallocherjr
      @gallocherjr 2 года назад +7

      @@solimanel-deeb8922 not sure about $17/ft. It’s around $1/ft per day on the low end to around $2.50/ft per day. So basically $1500 to $4500 per month for dockage, then there’s electricity, sewage ( free at lager marinas) tv, internet etc etc etc etc.
      if it floats, flys, xxxx’s. Rent it

      @stevec3537 2 года назад +5

      @@norwegianblue2017 I've seen the same calculation. And, in my 15 years of owning a boat, I have found 10% to be a good assumption, for sure.

      What was worse, was my uncle laughing at me while he was hooking my life jacket to pull me out of the drink.

    Keep in mind that this vessel is probably class c rated as engine room access is sealed bulkheads, doors on port and starboard probably have seals , this vessel can handle large seas, and being a trawler can travel longer distances. The things or characteristics you love are all part of classic flushdecks trawlers and ocean Alexander has and always been a tried and true vessel. For the money show me a rated vessel for under 400k that offers what your have presented, love the trawler, and enjoy your channel.

If I had the money I would totally invest in a yacht over a house where you might not like your neighbours which is usually the case haha. Plus I have always wanted to travel, I guess my sin is envy, because I envy the way you people get to live your lives. You get to travel the world and see all kinds of places and do all kinds of great things. A great life is full of variety, people and places. I want to suggest you look at the Grand Banks 47, it was offered as a Europa which meant it had a covered area at the rear which helped a bit to keep the sun off you. There was a Grand Banks 47 classic which had the aft cabin and was a great design. I think you would be surprised by the build quality and the fact it could easily be operated by one or 2 people. My late parents initially had a Grand Banks 32 which was the smallest one they made. The newer designs are very good and I personally like them. For me given a choice I would have a Grand Banks 52 Europa, it has plenty of room and will see you through any rough seas. The Grand Banks boats have been going for 60 years and are worth checking out if you have time, they have a new 85 foot one being launched so that might be of interest to yourselves. I also like Nordhavn and they are very sturdy boats, the N120 is a serious design and the delivery video of it shows how well it performs. I did note the 45 ft boat you featured had no dining tables or at least none I could see, keep up the great work.

I paused on the radar arch and it _LOOKS_ like it wouldn't take much to make that foldable. It looked like there was an exhaust vent over the cooktop there in the galley, not a huge one but for a 45' not bad at all! No stabilizers though, this one will roll a lot especially with that relatively narrow beam.

    He sounds like Andy Garcia. Was curious about this 45, I owned a 1999 OA 510 Pilothouse. It was a good boat overall with excellently designed hull. I cruised about 12k nm with it, single-handed around Florida, through Bahamas, to Maine and back.

    Love your channel!!! I'm also a fan of the Sailing Uma channel which for 8 years has chronicled a lovely couple (both Architects) who are super creative and smart who have totally refitted their 36' sailing vessel (Uma). They have sailed to the Caribbean, Norway, Iceland, Scotland, France Spain and have even crossed the Arctic circle!, a first for E-boatss. Originating in Florida and all a Solar powered Sail boat. They have about 350 episodes that are VERY informative and entertaining. Their patrons have heped them to get their boat in spectacular condition. They would be an excellent candidate for a tour as they have very out of the box ideas most of which have gone quite well and have challenged to saling industry. You will love them I'm sure. Start from the beginning so you get the entire picture. They are very thorough and fun. Cheers!
