I believe we are all part of this problem. We love music, but we complain about the cost of albums, concert tickets and merchandise. We sign up and gorge on the all-you-can-eat musical buffets such as Spotify and stop purchasing songs and albums. There has been article after article explaining that artists don't make squat from the Spotify model, but we just listen along anyway. We love the music and agree artists should be held in higher regard and compensated appropriately, but we are not willing to reject the music business models that leave artists emaciated. If we don't like what's happening, we need to recognize our part in the problem.
Justin, thanks once again for another outstanding episode.

I have a request....would you consider offering up your opinion on british vocalist Nikki Wells? Specifically, if I may, her song "Sunset" done live at Glastonbury? Usually hate the new "rock" haha, but I absolutely love Interpol and really enjoyed hearing your take on their latest single. You described them as "atmospheric", which I totally agree with. I personally refer to them as "mood music" - not sure if it's just the mood I'm in, but it does seem to embody a feeling. I could get lost in a lot of their songs. Interpol uses the combative guitars pretty regularly in their music, which we hear in Gran Hotel. I love it because you usually can't immediately follow the rhythm. It's like you have to sit and feel it out for a second and separate the lines. Just cool, as they usually are, and I was excited to hear your take on the song/Interpol as a band!

In each of The1975 albums, there’s always a standout... from Give Yourself A Try, Matty Healy’s lyrical genius is on full display with...

Good stuff Justin. Not really my cup of tea but I love your resumés. Substance in song 1 could refer to profound meaning: meaning to grab hold of, if you will. Unfortunately her search is ultimately doomed. People don't have the patience to listen to long intros anymore. It's a cultural thing I reckon. They want to get to the C, F, Am, G (or any variation thereof) straight away. Imagine if Pink Floyd released "Time" now. We wouldn't have time to listen to all those clocks and ticktocking.

Disturbed is still trucking. They've managed to go about twenty years without changing a single thing. Another band I don't particularly like, but they aren't shitting out overbaked pop songs with distortion, so they're possibly the best on the list, which is depressing.

That Demi Lovato song sounds very much like a paramore type of song. Justin you should look at Paramore, to me their sound was innovative and has since been taken as the blueprint for angst rock/pop punk

Number 1 and interpol were the only bands worthy of the name rock! The others were a mix of high school musical/Katy Perry generic non musical tripe.
Ps interpol are up there in my all time top bands.

That first over produced thing was just a reimagined Paramour, the second tune was, a thing. Interpol is always fantastic and no need of dissection, but for your info, Paul Banks plays the bass on their albums now. With all that said, I have a great suggestion for something new, and it'll give you a lot to digest, Do an episode about the new OFF! song released today, "War Above Los Angeles". That'll rip your face off(no pun intended) and give you some eargasm fun
