I haven't done the crossing, but know plenty who have paddled it, and I think there's no way I'd punch out into Bass Straight in those conditions in those craft. Check out Beau Miles' sea kayak videos on YT. Watching those it seems to me the key is time and patience - time to island hop and patience to wait for the next set of right conditions.

Tom Jenkinson very tough, they are not made for open ocean but we put them through some tough sea during training for this trip, it was an older version of the AI that failed, I have always felt safe in the AI
