A couple days ago, as I was leaving the harbor, I forgot to fold out the amas before unfurling the sail, and I went over, just like at 3:30 in this video. I was quickly blown to a dock, and there wasn't room to right the boat using the technique in this video, so I climbed onto the dock and got it upright (not easy, as it was hard to get any leverage). I've got a jib too, and a bunch of other gear, so it was a bit complicated, but not too bad. IMHO, the key is to uncleat the sail. In any case, I plan to practice soon in open water...

Just seen this. Good vid. Noticed mast whipped back and forth as TI righted. Any damage to the mast base? TIA

Thank you so much for demonstrating the righting. I watched this video and on our fourth time sailing the weather changed unexpectedly and we caught a microburst that instantly capsized us. Because of this video we didn’t panic and knew what to do to get her righted. We ended up taking on a bit of water in the hull so we now have a hand pump on the boat, an extra emergency line, a knife just in case, and a small line with foot loop to help me get back on the boat. People asked how we knew what to do and we told them about your brilliant video. They cheered as we righted it and screamed Thank Goodness for You Tube. Then they got to witness me wriggle, grunt and slide like a walrus on land. lol.

Great skill to have, and hopefully never have to use, unless you break tbe aka brace pin!

Good videos - keep them coming. Love the speed with the spinnaker! Agree it can be a bit much to handle in a stiff breeze.

Now that’s a damp ride. Tramp catching wind, half the hull underwater… been there. It’s fun most of the time, but I’ll admit sometimes I wish there were a center console AI ;)

So what was your speed WITH and also WITHOUT the spinnaker in 35Km winds ?

Great video... I have a similar story.. Did it in 2019, and my GTX filled with water overnight at Lady Barron. Unlike you, I didn't risk it, and went down the insurance path and had it shipped home. We are doing the same trip again in March this year - hoping to successfully complete it. Awesome to capture it on the GoPro!

Almost four years down the road from original implementation -- any adverse affects on the hull?

Wonder why the trampoline wasn’t rolled up in the heavier wind when the main sail was furled. It’s just another sail area that should be reduced in heavy air.

Echoing the other people saying remove the mast to make it easier. You want to get these boats back over ASAP because they can take on water, I found that out when I capsized my revo 11 with sail. I did remove the mast but even in the couple minutes upside down, it took on enough water to need bailing before it was stable enough to pull the mast up, partly due to the weight of the sail I’m sure. Obviously the AI has a big buoyancy advantage, might not be as big a deal on those.

Would it not be better to attach a paddle leash before rightening ? Great video.

The best thing to do is not capsize in the first place. Reef in your sail.

Having had dingy experience and sail my own Hobie Revolution with sail kit and Hobie sidekicks if I had the space an Ai or Ti would be my dream watercraft, how hard (or easy are they to accidentally capsize?

I haven't done the crossing, but know plenty who have paddled it, and I think there's no way I'd punch out into Bass Straight in those conditions in those craft. Check out Beau Miles' sea kayak videos on YT. Watching those it seems to me the key is time and patience - time to island hop and patience to wait for the next set of right conditions.

un hook both amas and then it is easy to roll back over. i was able to do this by myself. Then i stand on one ama and my weight plus pulling gets it right side up. Then extend the amas back in position. if the pin breaks, it can be replaced if the seas arn't to bad. ruclips.net/video/Ii13Qffazbc/видео.html
