I have a 2018 TI on order and your video is making me have second thoughts. My goodness, you are fortunate to have survived that unplanned exit of your boat.
I love your resilience.I have learned much from your videos. thank you for your efforts. Cheers from the Olympic Mountains in the state of Washington, USA.
Glad no major damage to your AI. Agree surf launches and recoveries can be tricky. I do about 50 surf launches a year. Used to have an AI but sold it for a TI. I use to peddle out and put the sail up. I switched to full sail deployed to help push through the waves going out and speed recovery (minimize time in the kill zone). I should have been patient, there was a larger set coming through every now and then so I under estimated the power of the wave and water behind it, I got hit one after another which drove the yak backwards and into the sand with the only way to go was over backwards. Solution avoid surf. I was lucky there was a friend still on shore to assist as I had no hope of righting it on my own in the waves

I believe this is part of the training, because on expeditions it may be necessary to go out on a surf beach or enter.

What could you have done better? What was the mistake? Any clues to this situation?

Not to bad the mask did not break but sad to lose the Go Pro as it would have been great clip. thanks for the comment
I have just ordered a Ai and this video proves the sturdiness of the boat
