  • In a previous video I found some red pom-poms ridiculously cheap at the craft store. I thought I'd make bushes out of them and use them for my model raroad scenery. . In a recent comment, someone asked me how that went, and I had to admit I'd never actually finished it.
    So this video shows how I went about making some DIY scenery--bushes in this case, from those pom-poms. If you're building a model railroad on a budget, this might be just the thing to help you. Follow along as I turn these cheap castaways into model bushes.

    Another great idea! The outcome was great. I'll admit... when your started painting it looked like you were painting crunch berries. 🤣

    Thanks for the mention Joe and wow did those come out sharp looking! Love the addition of some flock bringing it all together!
    I’m happy I never threw my pomp pomp’s out! Thanks for this one Joe!

      Yeah, you should be able to make them work for sure. I was surprised at how well the paint took care of the red color on mine.

      @@ThePixelDepotLLC mine are white so the paint should sink right on in, though NOW you have me wondering... they came out so well, how would a fake snow frosting over them look for a winter scene... in a few weeks I’m going to have to try now lol.
      I’m moving this coming Friday and as soon as I’m moved in, hello train layout starting and some Christmas idea experimenting lol

    Very cool idea. I’ve used green scrubber pads in the same way to make boxwood hedges. Same principle and steps.

      How thick were the pads?

      @@ThePixelDepotLLC it was a 3 pk from the dolllar store each is about the size of an index card and maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick max. Worked out really nicely

    I wonder if before the paint you sprinkled some static grass then painted it and put on ground foam they might look more scruffy

      That’s an interesting idea. Probably could have worked.

    Where did you get the grocery cart on your layout

    You're working in N scale? They seem small for HO.

    • @ThePixelDepotLLC
      @ThePixelDepotLLC  2 года назад

      I just measured. They average right around 2 scale feet in diameter in HO. So not huge, no. They might be better scaled for N, and they may not be the best choice for outside the factory. Maybe better suited to a residential or small business area.

      @@ThePixelDepotLLC True, you make the loading area look more like a golf course. Add some filth here and there. ;-)
