Talk more about 'gelling' the knot. What does it mean for performance & how is it done? NICE W&B Blade. Good to see someone at WCS speaking with a bit more mature authority instead of some of the dorky kids I've been seeing too often.
Haha I put myself in the camp of dorky kids, and by no means am an authority , but this is my understanding- I believe the gel process was developed by Simpsons for use in their “Manchurian” knots, but I could be mistaken about this. The process itself involves chemically treating the knots, but the details are guarded. When the hairs have been gelled, they form little hooks at the tips and tend to clump together, and when dry they look like spikes and feel crunchy. But when wet, they give a very soft feel at the tips and give a gel like face feel, almost like a sliminess. I believe the clumping of hairs / hooking traps water in the tips and gives this effect. Not all badger gels the same way, and depending on the process and starting batch of hair, there can be varying degrees of gel. For me, the more gel the better. The gelled boar knot I have from Heritage Collection has a remarkable amount of gel feel to it. But some knots have a mix of gel and scrub to them, but like anything else, it comes down to personal preference. Hope that helps
Great review and shave Matt, I like entropy man a lot but I get a little bit of irritation and tingling from it. I guess certain fragrance oils dont agree with me
Allen Long that’s always a bummer. I have a lot of sensitivities as well, and WK works well for my skin in general but everyone is different. I usually have to stay away from some floral, aquatics, and synthetic sandlewood.
Your descriptive incites, info & how to's are great Matt. Always enjoy your videos.
Doug Bear thank u
Probably the best soap base out there.
You could load more but this thing is crazy dense on its own!
Yes WK my current favorite base
