I saw a lot of Delta 88s growing up in the 1970s and 1980s. I would often see them at churches since a lot of church goers often have one. It was a great large family car.
When I graduated vocational School in 2010 in Eastern Kentucky there was a guy named Chris and he had just bought a 1983 Delta 88 and I didn't get to ride in it with him but a lot of us guys at the center which is like a vocational school where you live there and learn a trade, we all got to check out the back seats and some of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat and they were those pillow top type. Chris had driven his new purchase from Louisville to paintsville Kentucky which is a few hour drive from each other.
I had a teacher in 8th grade who had one of those Oldsmobile 88's with the Chevy engine, and he talked about why it was such a big deal to some people. He took the money rather than having the engine swapped out, since it ran better than any of his previous Oldsmobiles. By the time I was in college, many people started referring to "OldsmoBuicks" due to how the various divisions were obviously rebadging the same cars.
Danny from Full House drove a red 1961 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible early in the series. He actually had two, the first one got smacked by another car while parked and sank down into the ocean (and was towed out) on Danny’s 30th birthday. Jesse and Joey bought him an identical one from a classic car dealership, and Danny discovered it too and called that dealership, and they were all unaware that they were bidding against each other on it, though Jesse and Joey ended up buying it below the highest bid in the end.
I owned 2 Delta 88s , a 69 custom 4d sedan w/a 455 and an 80 2d coupe w/a 307 , 2 of the best cars I ever had and I miss them today, along with the good times I had while I owned them
I'll always think of the Oldsmobile Delta 88 as the official car for senior citizens, because I grew up with an elderly next door neighbor who owned one and raved about how much he liked it.
I just remembered that Rami directed Multiverse of Madness... All directors need to have a signature, with Rami's Delta 88, Bay's explosions, Tarantino's obsession with feet
A lot of people may not know that it had Ike Turner of Tina Turner Fame her ex-husband before she met him he was in the group Jackie Branson who was the leader an like was the guitar player, if you find a copy of rocket 88 on the Chess records label on shellac 78 RPM not the 45 copy you have some money right there at least 60 to 100 or so dollars if not more depending on the condition of the disc probably almost $200 if it's up near perfect condition.
i own a last gen 88 from 1998, and it’s easily one of the nicest and most comfortable cars i’ve been in. i even get compliments from people about it because of its condition
I owned 78 Delta 88 for my independent taxi in Honolulu in the early 80's. Silver with blue crushed velvet upholstery. It had the beefy 402. It was like driving my living room couch. Passengers loved it. So did I.
I have been a fan of these 87+ V6 cars with the 3.8 Buick engine for years. I had originally an 87 Bonneville, then an 89, but discovered the LSS Oldsmobile in the supercharged platform. All my friends had squeaky G-body Montes and such RWD models, but I had the car somebodies Grandpa bought and needed the S/C option. Comfy, understated interior (contrast to a 90's era Bonneville with 26 vents or whatever lol) and a torquey, reliable and efficient V6 240hp and 280 tq. I'm down to my last 3.8, a 97 Park Ave Ultra. Sad face.
As what they always say, there's a special feel in an Oldsmobile. I remember that the Eighty-Eight was being phased out in the late '90s. The Aurora should've saved Olds, but Olds as a brand was already going downhill to the point in 2000, GM announced phasing the brand out.
I had a 1989 Nissan Stanza, I'd love to see a video on one of these, maybe the Sentra/Stanza/Maxima series. I recall the mid 1980's and up being a time when Nissan popularity was exploding (outside of the early entries in the 60's-70's for most imports.)
I was always surprised that the Aurora didn't do more. Everyone I knew that bought one loved it. I'm still amazed and how the American automakers basically ceded the sedan market to Japan and Korea.
Ours family road tripper was the huge 7th gen Royale Brougham with the 455 CI Rocket 88 engine, and 8-track built in. That thing wasn't very fast, but had lots of torque.
Typical General Motors. They come up with a good idea(the driver side airbag)only to abandon it too soon and let someone else take the credit for introducing it to the mainstream public.
I have had an 89 88 and an 88 98, both fantastic riding and driving cars, smoothest front drivers I’ve ever been in. Idk why GM did it but the throttle was SUPER sensitive in both
Both Oldsmobile & Buick stopped making full sized wagons in 1965. Olds resumed full sized wagon production in '71 with the introduction of the Custom Cruiser, whereas Buick brought out their full sized Estate Wagon in 1970.
You didn't mention the 350 diesel engine they offered in the car. I had the 1984 Delta 88 with the diesel. Drove it across the country from Chicago to Los Angeles and while crossing the high desert in the middle of the night, I was able to achieve 40 mpg.
Thanks for mentioning the Dodge Rampage and now an episode on the Delta. Now episode(s) Oldsmobile Regency, Dodge/Plymouth Spirit/Acclaim; Ford Fairmont, AMC Javelin, Nissan Silvia or Pulsar, Chevrolet Monte Carlo
"Dead by Dawn"! That's not a threat - it's a line from that dang Evil Dead movie. As teenagers, my friends and I watched that movie repeatedly. It always creeped me out.
Grandma had an '87 88 from brand new. She gave it to me in 2003 and it lasted...two days. An improper visit to the mechanic those two days earlier (incompetent tard left a socket somewhere inside the top end) meant a seized motor. EDIT: Oh, the waste of human flesh wanted to charge her $2000 to replace the motor he destroyed.
I would like to see the Ford Aerostar, Windstar, and Freestar as well as Mercury Monterey minvans highlighted. Also, Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. The Toyota Previa and Toyota Wagon. The Buick Roadmaster and 1980 to 84 Buick Electra sedan and 1980s Buick Electra Estate Station Wagon.
What car did have a V6 diesel engine and front wheel drive. This V6 was the same as the 5,7 diesel but just 2 cyl shorter and fail free at the end of production.
I had a 1980 Delta 88 Royale Brougham 2 door coupe. It was a very nice car but unfortunately it had the 5.7 liter diesel V8 engine. I drove it for 3 months and got rid of it, trading it for a new 1981 Cutlass Supreme Brougham 2 door coupe with the 3.8 liter V6. Two losers in a row.
If we can stick with land yachts, how about the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham? Technically released in 1976, they got big - and more popular, too (🤣) - in the ‘80s.
Best way to start a Saturday morning!
A Delta 88 was the car I learned to drive with in Drivers Ed. Nice car.
I saw a lot of Delta 88s growing up in the 1970s and 1980s. I would often see them at churches since a lot of church goers often have one. It was a great large family car.
That's hot 🔥

Delta 88 ? We had one growing up. Brand new black on black. A sweet ride for sure.
this channel is wholesome, and delightful, and I love it
Great thanks for this series ! I myself today ( 2023 ) own a 81 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan which I love driving it and only drive it in the summer.
Danny from Full House drove a red 1961 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible early in the series. The first one was Bullet and the second was Walter.
I miss Oldsmobile! Great cars.

The 1980 probably had the Oldsmobile 350, as the 307 was introduced in 1981.
Another great video. Now I have to rewatch Lethal weapon 2 😂😂
This is arguably the best video you have done. I hope to see more GM videos like this. Kudos !
I had a 1989 Olds Nintey Eight it was always fun ordering a part everyone would have to ask twice.
Love the Space Balls movie clips!
I'll always think of the Oldsmobile Delta 88 as the official car for senior citizens, because I grew up with an elderly next door neighbor who owned one and raved about how much he liked it.
Olds was #1 in the 70s. 25 years later they got the axe. Such a sad downfall.
This video brings me a lot of beautifull memories.
I just remembered that Rami directed Multiverse of Madness... All directors need to have a signature, with Rami's Delta 88, Bay's explosions, Tarantino's obsession with feet
I saw ONE of Sam's yellow Delta 88s at a wrecking yard ten years ago. It had the mounts for camera gear and was, of course, a four door.
I had a 1970 delta 88 loved that car and also a 1975 98 regency it was awesome
Great job like always !
Loved this episode! Very special cars in my childhood as well
One of the earliest Rock n Roll songs was named after the Oldsmobile 88: 1951's "Rocket 88" by Ike Turner's band, The Kings of Rhythm.

I had a 1978 Delta 88 with a 468 stroker when I was 17. 😊
It looked bone stock.
Great car !
Should've kept that car.
First car, high school, 1992. Thing was a yacht!
You get that special feeling in an Oldsmobile!
I used to have an 84 delta 88 2 door. That thing was awesome but man, did it suck some gas down. It was like driving a couch down the road.
I had a 89 Olds 88 with the 3800 good car with great mpg
Hey thanks for doing this as always. Fun memories with these cars.
As always, well done documentary buddy
I have a 1982 Oldsmobile Delta 88 2-door with the same engine in it been putting it back together for a long time
Those cars handled so easy.
I have been a fan of these 87+ V6 cars with the 3.8 Buick engine for years. I had originally an 87 Bonneville, then an 89, but discovered the LSS Oldsmobile in the supercharged platform. I love this youtube channel! Another gem!
3:05 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for that Red Forman clip! Eric's dad was quite sneaky! 😈😈
Thank you so much. Great video

That clip from Spaceballs was PERFECT haha
I has a 1966 delta 88 convertible in high school back in 1978. Loved it & I now have a 1967 olds delta 88 convertible 👍🏼😁
I had a 1989 Nissan Stanza, I'd love to see a video on one of these, maybe the Sentra/Stanza/Maxima series. I recall the mid 1980's and up being a time when Nissan popularity was exploding (outside of the early entries in the 60's-70's for most imports.)
I had a 1985 Chrysler fifth Ave. that was in mint shape that I sold in 2017… I think you already did a video on that series
Merry Christmas from Ann Arbor!
I was always surprised that the Aurora didn't do more. Everyone I knew that bought one loved it. I'm still amazed and how the American automakers basically ceded the sedan market to Japan and Korea.

I really miss Oldsmobile 😭
Those mid-1970s GM airbags were known as the “Air Cushion Restraint System.”
Some 1973 full size Chevys were equipped with airbags; Kramer had one in an episode of "Seinfeld".
@@AdamBomb-kd4fe Green 1973 Impalas initially in a government fleet.
You are right. Thanks.
Typical General Motors. They come up with a good idea(the driver side airbag)only to abandon it too soon and let someone else take the credit for introducing it to the mainstream public.
I got one of those first gen FWD delta 88s that it’s a 87 and in the process of restoring it they are great cars
150 hp 3.8L V6
These were great cars after 3/1987 build date when GM started using the LN3 Buick 3.8L 3800 Pee Series 1 v6 which ran from (3-1987-8-2008)
I remember the Dick Van Patten “the family car that didn’t forget the family” ad.
Those 90s 88s along with the buick lesaber are still all over Milwaukee
I daily drive a 1990 Olds 88
Owned an 85 Delta 88 Royale😊
I have had an 89 88 and an 88 98, both fantastic riding and driving cars, smoothest front drivers I’ve ever been in. Idk why GM did it but the throttle was SUPER sensitive in both

I liked them so much I have 3: 1989, 1990, 1991!

We had a 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass. 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue.
Mitsubishi Sigma/Diamante next! 🤞
I have an 84 Delta 88 4 Dr diesel...best cars ever..
Would love a Cadillac coupe deville episode
Coupe AND Sedan Deville !
I literally was parked next to one of these yesterday at the gas station and was wondering about it
Thanks for mentioning the Dodge Rampage and now an episode on the Delta. Now episode(s) Oldsmobile Regency, Dodge/Plymouth Spirit/Acclaim; Ford Fairmont, AMC Javelin, Nissan Silvia or Pulsar, Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Could you do the 80s Toyota pickups?
My parents bought a Delta 88 with the diesel engine, what a huge PoS it was
Can you do the Ford Bronco video with all generations?😅.
"Brom"?
I've always heard it pronounced to rhyme with "comb" or "foam".
"Dead by Dawn"! That's not a threat - it's a line from that dang Evil Dead movie. As teenagers, my friends and I watched that movie repeatedly. It always creeped me out.
Can you do a video on the Nissan sx cars?
I had a 69 with the rocket it was a fun car to drive green with black interior
We had the custom cruiser wagon witch looked like the 88 but a wagon.
Would like to see the Cadillac El Dorado get it's own video.
I have a '85 delta, 307 powered that's in the process of trying to return to nature.
Our city loves to slab those cars!!!
just look up detla 88 slab houston
Folks had a 76. Always was in the shop :(
I love the 'Rocket 88' classic song - it's been covered sooooo many times!
Saw a 2 door red delta 88 in the junk yard with nothing wrong had 43 000 miles on it interior was like new it's sad they probably crushed it
I would like to see the Ford Aerostar, Windstar, and Freestar as well as Mercury Monterey minvans highlighted. Also, Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. The Toyota Previa and Toyota Wagon. The Buick Roadmaster and 1980 to 84 Buick Electra sedan and 1980s Buick Electra Estate Station Wagon.
Check out my channel page, and you'll see I've already made episodes for some of the cars on your list.
@@MyOldCar How about the Lincoln Town car L?
That was a lot of horsepower for a car in the ‘60’s with over 300 hp!
How about a Pontiac 6000 video I just saw a wagon and it surprised me in traffic
What car did have a V6 diesel engine and front wheel drive. This V6 was the same as the 5,7 diesel but just 2 cyl shorter and fail free at the end of production.
Nice Dan Rather clip. Did he ever find out what was the frequency, Kenneth?😉😜
R.E.M. 1994
The painfull dead of Oldsmobile starts when they shift to front wheel drive. 😔
VOLKSWAGEN FOX PLEASE
Damn. Even I forgot about that car.🤔
Please do an Episode on the Mitsubishi Diamante
This should be good.
I was gonna get one then I found a 1988 Lincoln town car and bought that.

These were MARGINAL (at their best) The Cutlass "line" was "SUPREME"! These were fat, floundering handling G.M. "full-sized"!
A 2 door that size is unthinkable today
Unfortunately
8 Mile.
I thought the logo was an airplane when I was a kid, yeah a rocket makes more sense.
Oldsmobile
The 88 LSS was the sh!t.
I always saw it as a budget Mafia car.
I drove a 72 Delta 88 for a short time. Considering i only paid 600 bucks for it was'nt a horrible car
also olds had delmont 88. 98 was more luxurious. i like 1971-1976 88 & 98. ted Kennedy had a accident in his oldsmobile 88.
You forgot to mention the 1968 Delta 88 Ted Kennedy owned and crashed into Chappaquiddick
Mazda 626
