I'm glad you mentioned the Houndstooth edition of the Mercury Cougars because I actually saw one in person at an auto repair and detailing shop in town and couldn't believe it! They did the top and the interior so it was really something else! I didn't know Mercury offered it back in the day and thought the new owner just wanted to "pimp it up" a bit! Haha! I actually rented a 1990 Cougar for a week to do some road trips and loved it! Lots of power, fun to drive, great sound system and because it looked like someone's parents' car I could go speeding down Highway 1 and not be bothered!
I don't remember the 50th anniversary Sable. I used to read Car & Driver and watch Motorweek back then and today is the first I've heard of it!Very likely I glossed over it and quickly flipped the page because it wasn't an exotic car 😂. Thanks Green Hawk!
I think the 60's Cougars were cooler than the Mustangs personally. My first car was a Mercury. Nothing cool at all, it was just a Ford Escort with a Mercury badge (Lynx) and that is one of the reasons these brands eventually died; they weren't anything more than rebadged, mass produced boring junk. You weren't getting anything more for your money other than a literal plastic badge with a different name glued to the vehicle. It feels odd and saddens me though that so many American car brands from my youth are no longer with us. Pontiac, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, AMC, Eagle (And Eagle really was just Mitsubishi& Renault)...and then some foreign brands were even gobbled up by these American giants and killed off too like Saab,(Saab was a great car company at first!) and you could argue Jaguar is no longer British whatsoever as it was gobbled up by Ford and later sold to Tata motors which is just an India based car company. I'm just being an old guy that's pissed that cars have become appliances without any stylistic or innovated passion behind them i suppose😅
The mercury cougar 67-70 are badass!!seen a few at car show I went to a couple weekends ago,one had I believe the 429 V8 if I'm not mistaken it sounded mean!!!💯love the hideaway lights also I had an 84 for a few years, only a V6 but still a fun car to drive, bought it in 02 delivered a lotta pizzas 🍕 in it!!lol😂
Besides the Gator Grain top from Plymouth, they also had a 70 and 71 Fury Gran Coupe that had a brown paisley top and interior. Liked that Nite Edition pickup you showed at the beginning, I almost ordered one new,but was out of my budget at the time. Also liked the Merkur XR4Ti, but they were about 12 grand in 89,so bought a Escort ES instead. Was only $7500 brand new for a Escort. Alot of people knock the Escort, but mine was pretty good, looked similar to the GT. Did good in snow and used very little gas. Anyways, good video. 👍

I remember in '84 mercury had two "special" editions of the topaz. The "blue max" and the "red Barron" is respective colors. Not sure what we special about em but I remember the adds in the dealership when my dad bought the "blue max"
A low production number Ford was the 1983 Mustang GT Turbo. As I understand It was offered as a precursor to the 1984 SVO Mustang. My wife purchased one new. What a great car. It had a 5 Speed with the TRX suspension package (metric Michelin tires and monster antisway bars). With the Turbo charged 4 cylinder, handing and balance was perfect. From what I can tell between 500-1000 were produced. Sold to buy a Volvo Station Wagon when our son was born. Sure wish I had it back.
I wanted to by an SVO Mustang but the deal fell through. However, the dealership, for some strange reason, let me have the car for 3 days. Loved it. People kept asking what it was.
A great special addition that ford came up with in 1972 was the white mustangs, pintos and mavericks with the blue panels on the hood, rocker panels and tail light surrounds. I cant recall the name of the edition but I always liked the paint scheme and the interiors. Thank you for the great videos!
I had a 87 S10 blazer high country. I didn’t know it was rare until I tried to replace it years later.
I remember the kittyhawk edition back then, sharp looking vehicle. Ford has an aviation history too as they did produce the Ford Tri Motor Aircraft from 1925 to 1933 making 199 of the type
Dad ordered a 74 impala 4 door hardtop. fender skirts and black and white hounds tooth interior -Paint color medium red metallic. Budget shot. PERFECT... until he showed up with a white vinyl roof. i was crushed

Yes. I believe the LTD and Mustang were both built on the same platform (called "Fox") so you could stretch a bit and call the LTD a four-door 'Stang by default. (Or the Mustang a two-door LTD, if you wanted to start a fight.)
The funeral home in my small town had one and used it to chauffeur the pastor, me, to the cemetery. It was nice inside, but never got to experience it at speed.

Sadly, it got totaled out, so I got a '62 T-bird. My senior year of HS, I gave the T-bird to my brother for his '69 XL convertible. Cars were cheap back then.
Man, that must of been heartbreaking.
I think the strangest is cougar was the 1980s four-door. I had an 81 Mercury cougar coupe. Oil burning 6 cylinder.. the cougar XR7 was a completely different body style
It was a glorified Fairmont, even made a Cougar wagon!

Wonder how much a Mercury LTS would go for these days?
$700.…..to the guy that wanted to reminisce his first date again in his Dad's Ford Fairmont.
Great question, I can’t even imagine how many of the 135 are left😂
Have you driven over a ford, lately 🛻🚚
They should have sold the lts in USA. Guaranteed more than 135 to sell. Much better looking than the dull ltd
Mark 7 lsc?
Sadly, there was never a Mercury Marquis de Sade. 😉
2018 -2023 Dodge Chargers come with houndstooth interior

Its not true you could only get a model T in black. Its the only color you didn't have to pay extra for.
Yeah you're right. I guess I was referring to the black period when they only sold them in black.
