“If I were in government” quoth Ed. The only note of reassurance is that he is highly unlikely ever again to be a minister. His contrition is limited to making apologies in writing and in oral evidence: the day after giving evidence, it will seem like a very bad dream but he will still be Sir Ed, party leader. A truly contrite politician who failed as badly as he did, wouldn’t wish still to be known as “Sir” because he now knows that others like Sir Alan Bates deserved it so much more. There must be MPs who could lead LibDems, who haven’t been so badly compromised.

You should know this, Government asks for a report to be made on any issue (the Labour Government has just made known it will commission a report on Housing in the UK) in the UK, then Government may implement a part of any report, when things go wrong Government blames the report. This has been happening for decades in the UK Government
