That is so right we have to make food that the teachers say like once we were told to make cheese scones. And I hate cheese and so does my family so it doesn’t make sense why I should buy ingredients then throw it away after like such a waste of money and food. When I was in school, we could either bring £2 in for food tech or bring our own ingredients. Although, we never got to make the good food like spaghetti bolognese.
We had to pay £40 at the start of the year, and the school never got ingredients for us, we still had to buy it + cooking equipment: apron, numerous trays, parchment and more.
Don’t tell me schools in the UK actually teach life skills like cooking?? Meanwhile in the US, I once got a coupon book for McDonalds for winning a spelling bee. 😅
In my school, we had 2 food tech lessons a week. One of which we cooked and the other we learnt about what makes a balanced diet and focused on different types of food like carbohydrates to which we made some sort of food with carbohydrates the following lesson They taught us different chopping methods and when to know food was cooked and how to use an oven properly. We do also learn sewing in design tech, idk if you have this. We learnt how to set up a sewing machine(harder than it looks) how to use it, we learnt different sewing patterns and we also learnt how to use an iron lmaooo. In year 11 (10th Grade or last year of high school for uk) I think we briefly go over taxes and stuff but it is much less complicated than America because we don't have to do anything and taxes just come out of your salary automatically. In year 11 we also learn about careers and what sort of stuff can help you get the career you want. Annddddd we have free health care sooooo
Don't forget the "u wouldn't go into a maths class without your pencil case or your pe lessons without your pe kit so y should u go enter my lessons without ingredients"
Im lucky my teacher is rlly sweet and once i forgot my ingredients and she offered to take me to the nearest grocery and get me everything i needed i owe her a lot she is the kindest person i have met 😊
Food tech was pretty much my least favourite lesson because of the stress of buying ingredients and bringing them all in and storing them in the right places and then having to make a full edible meal at 12 years old like what???
My school provides everything. They say what’s the point on making people pay for a subject they never chose. Idk about GCSE cause my teachers are really toxic so they put me off, although I love the subject with a passion
My food tech lessons are way different Cause we only have an hour so my teacher makes us start making the food and that as soon as we come in so we are baisically rushed.
I learnt how to make potato wedges…and a door sign in woodwork and a plastic caterpillar that was also a ruler. I mean how to make a cv and apply for a job or get a mortgage would be helpful but now everyone knows what room is mine and I can measure anything as long and it’s under 10cm thanks miss McGwire
One thing I don’t think teachers realise is that some parents don’t have money to be buying extra food

at my school (i live in australia) my school gives us the ingredients we only have to bring a plastic container incase we take it home.
