  • You can start potatoes in small pots and plant them into a larger space when you have room. See how I plant out my potato seedlings. I grow flowers and vegetables in Saskatchewan, Canada. My cold hardiness zone is zone 3b. I have an average of 110 frost free growing days each year. The past few years have seen our temperatures go as low as -37C (-34.6F) to as high as 37C (98.6F). Come see what and how I grow in these conditions.

Good day, Prairie Plantgirl and sweet Buster!👋 Ya can't go wrong planting more delish potatoes.🥔😋
You are such a great example of growing what your peeps love to eat!👍 Gardeners create wonderful memories when our loved ones see us joyfully and diligently tending to food they enjoy! Hopefully, your daughter will be happily growing cauliflower or some other loved veg for your future grandbabies.❤
It seems the west of the US up into y'all beautiful land will be receiving the heat we usually have. The cold air coming will push the heat y'all's way. Enjoy!😃
Thanks for teaching us so very much!💕

It really is nice to grow and share what my family enjoys.
You are right about the weather. We are supposed to crack 100F this coming week which is quite hot for us Northerners!

The heat really has things growing after the cool start to our summer.

I have no seed potatoes left BUT I’m going to try something I read about: I am going to carefully lift out my Red Norland plants that are wilting, remove the big tubers, leave the tiny ones, trim the foliage back to 6”, and replant. It’s an experiment that may fail, but otherwise those pots will remain empty. Wish me luck!

I have tried replanting the healthy looking potato plants. It did not do well for me. I don’t think I trimmed them back. I’d love to hear how this turns out.

Question: I harvested some Warba potatoes yesterday. Not realising that I could start potatoes in pot and transplant before tubers formed: would it be possible to replant the smaller, like 1 inch potatoes, still attached to the root system and stem with leaves and harvest again before fall, as they are early and determinant potatoes?

I haven’t had good luck with that but it seems like it works for some gardeners. If you have the space give it a try.
