I'm building a set of Focal towers for the home. I have a pair of Focal 33KX Woofers, a pair of 165K2P Mid's and Peerless Silk Tweeters. The boxes are made from 64mm thick MDF wood. There is a recess on the baffle to accept a mm sheet of open cell foam with an Anechoic pattern (star pattern) around the tweeter. Pine/Hardwood bonded rib bracing (cabinet resonances are as good as zero with this system. Are can't wait to finish them , they should sound magnificent !!
If I were to do that project, I would swap the dual 6.5” per side for a set of dual 8’s. I ran some 8’s on a build for midrange and midbass, that was super sweetness!!! A lot fuller midrange, with depth of voices, drums, minus kick drum. Would also run all Focal drivers. I would like to come across something of this caliber with the Revelator grade drivers. Would love to get an audition for my ears with those drivers…
Very nice indeed!, way beyond most DIYers capabilities, but a stunning result, i have a pair of vintage JM LAB Electra 920, with similar specs, sound great on low powered triodes!
Impressive! The CNC was so cool. And the level of perfection of the lacquer job, with all layers and polishing to a mirror finish made it look perfect. The acoustic quality of the construction looks high level. I can imagine the original Focal machine technical drawings was at hend ? It was obvious that you put down many hours of work with this project. I envy you the possibility to use the CNC, your workshop, and the finished speakers.👍
Wow. Excellent😮. I,ve heard the grande utopia in France and sounded wonderful. Very expensive in France too. I know you can find woofer drivers from focal (car drivers are good too) but I doubt you can buy a beryllium tweeter from focal 😢... I know you are now a happy man !
I recently made a copy of the Fokal Utopia. At the request of the customer, a crossover and an amplifier are installed in the lower box, through the partition. I do not write for arguments, but just tell you what happens and so.

Форма корпусу цікава , виготовлено якісно . Але в акустиці най важливіше це якість звуку . Чому внутрішній об'єм СЧ динаміка не шароподібний ? Маючи таке обладнання це зробити не складно .
@@matrixplace It is not, if you use some composite materials technics. More over, if you take a furniture plywood with 20 layers, everything will be even better. It's all about a price.
@@sc0or Maybe you are right, but I have never seen expensive speakers made of plywood, and I think when they build speakers for 100k and more, they can afford using plywood if it is better.
@@matrixplace You are right. It's only a personal preference and convenience in processing and assembling. If paper and plywood sound the same, any businessman prefers a cheaper solution. I don't mind this. But you can find plywood and bamboo in some crafted products with lot of curved surfaces and exterior details.

Focal dont sell speakers many years....except car speakers. But there is a lot of great speakers on market.

Even the original speakers, that cost more than 100 000 euro per speaker are made of MDF. Plywood is very bad choice for speakers...
