I can't believe the bus driver didnt finf a safety stop where you could have sheltered or drop people off at their hotels etc especially seeing you had such young children! Your children were amazing and stayed so calm. Luckily tornadoes are rare here in the UK but years ago we witnessed a very small one in Essex. It touched down and dispersed but the lightning, wind and hail were incredible! I am so glad you were all safe!
I watched a video a woman took on tiktok, of this tornado. She was inside a Target, and kids and adults alike were standing at the doors and windows just watching the tornado. The woman recording, tried to warn them to get away from the doors and windows. People sadly were calling her a Karen, when in fact, she was just trying to save them before they got hurt. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
The bus driver was driving right into the storm… I guess he thought “YOLO let’s see if I can take these tourists right into the eye of the storm 🤦🏼♀️”
From one parent of an autistic kiddo to another, y'all handled this GREAT!!! My son is 23 now, and he always had big time issues with anything disrupting plans or schedules. It took me a lot of intensive work with him to get him to accept that we can't always control things around us. Nowadays he's the most laid back, easy going dude I could want for a son. He's overly verbal (hahaha) and if I need help with anything, he's right there. Cooking dinner? Got it. Cleaning house? No problem (except his room--that's a whole other disaster). Anyway, keep up the good work :-) I love seeing such a happy, positive family.
In my opinion that bus driver should’ve let you off immediately, if there’s lightning in the vicinity, he would have been like “alright everyone there’s severe weather here, time to get off.” But instead decided to drive right into it, but you’re lucky, F1s are generally weak, glad to see that you’re all safe and sound!
@@aChanceofHale For this area thats a rare sight for this area 1995 Was the last F1 we are just west of DC and all we ever heard of was MD and VA getting TOR'S this size
Being someone in my mid 20s and absolutely terrified of thunderstorms (though we never get tornadoes, last one we had was 20+ years ago), the way you guys talked and handled the situation with your kids was really calming, I may play it for people I trust so they can help me like this through any future storms 😊💖
That was crazy!! Glad you guys were all safe. Just walking round dc at night would scare the pants off me, let alone in a tornado storm. What a memory that will be!
I’m gonna be completely honest and say that the bus driver could’ve been sued, or held liable for this, especially if anyone ended up injured or killed. It was obvious to all of you on that bus that there was a storm coming, and not only did y’all get tornado warnings on your phones but……you could see the storm coming in with your own eyes. If all of you were able to see it coming, there’s no way that the bus driver couldn’t have seen it, and thought “let me get these people to safety” instead of driving towards it. There’s a difference between driving towards basic clouds at night, versus driving towards obvious storm clouds (mainly if you know what they look like). I’m sure he knew where he was going, but only cared once the storm fully hit. He should’ve immediately taken all of you to a safe place to take shelter when the warnings started happening, instead of waiting until it was basically too late especially since there were kids. Had any of you been injured or killed, the driver…..could’ve gotten into trouble because it’s his job to not only take y’all around the city, but to keep everyone safe in case of an emergency especially if the authorities can’t help at the moment. He “kicked” y’all off the bus but all the stores were closed, so you all were just left outside to find shelter in case the storm got worse. Doesn’t matter if he was “nice” about it, those not very smart acts by him could’ve gotten someone hurt or killed even if the storm wasn’t crazy bad.
Ha! “My eyes, the goggles do nothing!” I know exactly what you mean. How on earth did Kristen’s contacts blow out of her eyes!!! That’s insane! What an adventure ❤️
I love how you handled the storm and turned it into an adventure for the kids no one is traumatized and they have a great memory of their vacation in D.C. to share with their friends 😁 I was born in D.C. on the 4th of July 1962 and love my city, I was also caught in the same storm on the mall with my girlfriend and I promise you she handled it much differently than your lovely family. I'm not from washington Dc or a place that gets torndoes but this year on July 1st there was a HUGE storm!! And little hail too! Like the size of a pebble but it was so cool!
I’m guessing the tornado was following you lmao because I’m from Washington DC and we don’t never get tornadoes, huge hurricanes just very bad rain and hail 3 times a year so Im guess the tornado wanted to visit with you
Unless y'all saw actual rotation in the clouds themselves, I don't think you caught the actual tornado. 99% of all tornadoes are usually wrapped in heavy rain, making them very hard to see. You likely caught something called a scud cloud, which can be confused for a tornado sometimes.
We did and caught it on camera. You can see half of it including rotation along with the rain wrapping around it at about 06:32 . Before that the actual funnel was mostly behind a building which is why we didn't realize it was so close for awhile. You can also google the tornados that night and find some better and alternate angles of the tornado. (There were two, but we were by the EF1 one.) We definitely caught some cool scud clouds as well or as we like to call them on this channel "Old Dippy Clouds". =) I was born in Oklahoma and have been around this stuff a decent amount of times. The guy sitting in front of me on the bus (David) is my brother-in-law who was born and raised in Oklahoma and lived their his entire life until marrying my sister a couple of years ago. (We're all in Houston now.) He was the one who kept calming pointing out where it would be and also when we finally saw it. It didn't phase him at all, he's so accustomed to these kind of storms (much worse, actually), haha! Glad you commented... love finding people also into weather! =D

@Amused Living well that certainly put the Tour in Tournado didn't it and oh my goodness in downtown Washington DC
I would be terrified but amazed
I’m guessing the tornado was following you lmao because I’m from Washington DC and we don’t never get tornadoes, huge hurricanes just very bad rain and hail 3 times a year so Im guess the tornado wanted to visit with you
I went to Washington D.C a week before the tornado hit
Fireweeeeeeee cool vid
must be scary to know the weathers fine one second then all of a sudden a tornado forms out of nowhere

I was in this too visiting my grandma she livie by the white house like at least 7 mins away and this happend on my bday
Glad you guys are okay :) 😀
