Hi Amelia! My problem with the luxury resale market online IS that WE ARE gambling with the possibility of buying a fake . I miss physical stores with pre- loved + vintage items ( I ' m from Paris). Great points and happy you got your dreamy pre- loved Hermès without playing Hermès -y games. ❤❤
There’s definitely an adjustment happening in the resale market but many sellers just aren’t ready to meet buyers expectations. I’ll be interested to see how things look in 12mths. Also I feel like the pandemic and the resale market shaped the crazy boutique price increases. I saw Gucci have their mini Ophidia in some new denim colours. AUD$1745! Greed clearly drives these companies insane. No wonder they’re reporting their profits are down a whopping 40% great topic as always Amelia
This is a great video. I also think the problem is that there has been a huge influx of these vintage archive resellers. It’s like every Gen Z talks about how they source bags. Vintage market is softening because there’s so much inventory and no one is buying like they were.
I personally don’t like preloved bags. Almost the same price as new, worn out bags, the risk, no instore experience. If all I am saving is 200 euros why bother.
There are some resellers who ask retail (or close to it), sometimes for bags that I can order brand new and I've stayed away from those. My two preloved purchases have been significantly below retail, one was about 30% below, and the other about 50% below, both in great condition and the second one had never been worn! I feel as though I got a bargain, especially as retail prices are still going up (one isn't available in the colour I bought, but the other one is still available), but they still weren't cheap! I generally work to a budget, so I won't pay silly prices, and most of my preloved purchases are scarves and other accessories.
Although resale could save some money but personally all my bags are from store even though I buy full price because I don’t like to deal with sellers and I never know the history‘behind the bag that I am buying. Also for peace of mind I rather go to the store. My LV SA told me LV will not repair any bags that a reseller bring to their store even with receipts and all. As the bags are not purchased by them but is linked to our individual LV account. 😊
@@Bagellatte This is 100% incorrect! I have bought preloved LV bags and got them repaired at LV before. NO ONE had any issues with it and some of them knew it was a pre-owned bag and told me my items are in good condition since it is vintage and some items LV doesn't sell anymore. I ask for a quote in store and drop off my item. LV send it to the repair centers and once it it finish they send it to the store and I pick it up and pay for the repairs. I have taken a keepall bandouliere 55 from 1991 (my birth year) to get all the vachetta replaced, mini speedy hl to get all the vachetta replaced, montsouris mm backpack to get all the vachetta replaced, alma pm to get all the vachetta replaced, sunglasses pouch mm to get reglazed, trousse toiletry pouch 23 lining and zipper replaced, trousse toiletry pouch 28 lining and zipper replaced, nice vanity lining replaced, and pegase 55 replaced the bumper. I just picked up 2 of my nice vanity last weekend from LV. I got the inside lining replaced bc it was sticky and peeling that I bought preloved. I paid $880 for each vanity repair. I am not the original owner nor do I have receipts and it is not on my account and LV didn't say anything. They will repair your items as long as it is authentic and you are willing to pay for it.
I love this channel and today I'm going to get a Ferragamo bag for My birthday because they are more reasonable than the brands you mentioned. I feel they are taking advantage of their customers and being greedy !
The market is crazy. Good for buyers bad for sellers. The resellers are still trying to maintain their margins so just squeezing the seller in the process. X fab video love x
The fact that you feel like something(the Chanel pearl bag) may be missing from your collection, goes to show me that I’ll always feel like something is missing from mine and I’m not even a collector. This is a wake up call for me…I should stop now and put my energy and money elsewhere.
So true! Take a look at the bags for under 2k on these websites. The bags are very very used and old (sometimes moldy) and very overpriced borderline contemporary and dated bags. Sorry if they overpaid for the bags…. I am not interested to buy any of them.
I detest going to say fashionphile, and seeing a 15 year old bag, or 10 or even 5 being extremely close to the price of a new bag, things like speedy’s and neverfulls, it is insanity!
Another reason why ppl are more and more wary of second hand items is how good fakes have become and increasingly hard to authenticate. Eveb 50% off retail is a lot if one gets it wrong.
Pre-loved is not worth it for me because I do not live in a state that has sales tax, making new bag prices too close to used prices for me. I'd much rather buy my LV items new than save $100 bucks and take a chance.
I also live in a state that doesn't have sale tax (Oregon) but I still buy preloved. It depends on the item tho. You can get really good deals on some bags and slgs. Way below retail. Like when I buy Chanel or Dior bags. Most of my LV bags are brand new from store. But I also have vintage LV bags that I got preloved and took to LV to get it repaired because they do not make certain bags anymore.
I should never say, never, but, I don’t ever want to pay more than the retail price for a used bag. Even if it was supposedly never worn. I’d rather just buy new in shop or buy something else.
I think a lot of people took advantage of capitalising on their collections during lockdown, and found they could make a lot of money on items they bought for retail. I also think a lot of people thought they could suddenly become a re-seller and make money. The tides have turned and lots of re-sellers are going under or are now doing it tough. I feel like it was a short term money maker for lots of people. Only the really good consigners will survive the turn in the market.
I had a very bad bad experience with a resale company. They ignored my emails and WhatsApp messages, yet had sold my stuff. I embarrassed them on a live, spammed up their live feed. And guess what, got paid the next day! London is inundated with resale and preloved stores now, and vintage sellers. Fendi and Chanel seem to be just chucking bags at buyers who don’t want them.
I think the opposite is happening. I think the brands see the high prices people are willing to pay on the resale market so they up their retail prices for new bags. I’m so over the insane prices of resellers.
resellers are pushing up prices in charity shops, a worker told me they look up the price on secondhand sites and price accordingly. Sales have slowed because most people don't need to buy up the whole shop and they are meant to exist for poor people, who can no longer afford it! Middle class wanted a bargain or reselling 'business' pyramid scheme, which requires that new suckers are found aka great fool theory.
The only thing that keeps me from buying preloved is no warranty. I have seen people turned away from LV because they didn’t buy the bag. My sister bought a preloved and needed a repair. She was willing to pay and they said no.
I never had that issue. I have taken many vintage bags I bought preloved to LV get to things repair like all the vachetta replaced, the lining replaced, redo glazing, etc. Never had any problems. I just picked up 2 of my Nice Vanity last weekend from LV repairs. Paid $880 each to get the lining replaced. I got it preloved and the inside was peeling and sticky. I also have a RUclips video of me taking a vintage LV mini speedy hl to LV to get all the vachetta replaced and did a unboxing of it in 2020. I'm in the USA.
You mentioned that resellers authenticate. There is a preloved company in the UK who claims to authenticate everything she sells herself but has been selling fakes. Please be careful people. Just this week, I and another woman found out we had been sold fakes after getting them authenticated by reputable companies and she is refusing to do anything about it.
Yes i totally agree with you. The Chanel Pearl Mini is crazy. Frankly even Hermes some of it are coming down. It is definitely buyers' market. Yes even a new Classic Chanel in small or medium is cheaper than retail prices now. I will do the same to find those bargain. Great video Amelia 🤩
Ha! I have been saying that with the Chanel law suit - if the brands ruin the resale market they may not have costumers anymore when the “resale value” and “investment” is no longer there!
Def seen resellers sell bags that you can currently get (not discontinued) for more. In those instances, I don’t recommend paying a premium. It may have to do with lack of research on the buyer side or maybe being intimidated to visit a store to ask. Great that you mention we have to compare and weigh the options before diving in. Excited to see the market returning to “normal”.
Great video A. I was actually making some notes about my own experience in selling pieces for a video I'm planning. I agree with what you've said, the re-sale market rly has grown legs in the last few yes, but has also definitely slowed down which is a good thing for some ppl! 😊
Good to know how prelove works in the UK. I’ve bought many vintage luxury but mostly in Singapore. The same store for 15years, best perk of being a regular customer is getting additional 15-20percent discount on listed items when paying cash. I’ve loved every single purchase.
Everyone is becoming resalers and I hate it. People buying from LV, Chanel, Hermes and reselling to be on their VIP list and get the gift they give out. I don’t buy off those Facebook websites anymore. Now people are up cycling LV canvas. I’ll stick to the boutique from now on.
That pearl Chanel, egad! I am on team Connor and Dayle…. Chanel make some stunners, this one, in my opinion is not one of them, and the prices!! No no and no! Great video 🥰
We see a lot of expensive asking prices… but we don’t see what they actually sell for. Sellers of course want top prices and often want to make back what they paid for the bag but they compare the bag to today’s price and try to tell us we’re getting a bargain! This only works for the exceptional bags or the Chanel classics that have really increased in price. If I’m buying 2nd hand, I want the cost to be less than what they paid for it generally by a third, preferably half, I don’t care about today’s retail price. Authenticity always comes into play too if I didn’t buy it from a boutique. I’ve paid above retail for a special SLG but wouldn’t do it for anything that wasn’t out of the ordinary.
I saw the sale post for the Pearl Chanel bag from the usually reasonable reseller and was absolutely shocked!!! Is that really where they are now???? 😱😱😱 To be honest I’m in the camp that doesn’t really like that bag 🤣 But having said all that it hasn’t sold I don’t think - so it’s only worth that if someone is willing to buy at that price.
i miss when i could get a good deal on an old collection. i just cant believe, we let it get to that. we were the ones to pay into it and are now getting hurt by it. hoping that because we are waking up and not paying those crazy amounts, then the marked will go down. I'm in the same boat with you on the pearl chanel bag.
When the pearl Chanel was released I liked it but thought it too expensive for what it is. Even more so now. I see the same issues arising with books. Prices are market driven largely but I do notice that sometimes sellers do pluck huge prices out of the air!! Thank you for the video.
The resale market is absolutely Terrible for the sellers. Even a brand new bag that is below the current sale price is still hard to sell. I feel like just taking it off the website and keeping it for the hopefully better time😮
Beyond the price points is the issue of unaccountability and generous denial in the condition of product: Never worn (cannot be proven), but it has scratches ? Just lies. Seedy, shady, wrong side of the tacks vibes. Resellers of all niches used to need credibility to retain their clientele. I've also seen "Mint, except for two spots see pictures ". There is no exception, if it has any wear it is not mint condition. Just denial that they have worn, scratched, stained used merchandise for sale. Reality is not their friend. A wedding dress even had "unaltered, but train removed", WTF?
I remember that pearl bag when it debuted and was available at NM. I could have picked it up and didn't, as it just didn't seem like a good investment for me. If I remember correctly, it was about $7k USD retail, and it was one of the reasons I didn't pick it up. Now, just five years later, I wish I had; those adorable bags are impossible to find even at twice the price.
I'm not into the resale market. I've even had all 3 houses I've owned built. Can't do used cars either. Maybe that's a part of OCD. If I could, I would buy something from the original LV denim collection 💙
One point not mentioned is that this HUGE prices from resellers, is the fact that it has drived the dupe market in a big way. And the leathercrafters in Asia who make a premium dupe for 10% of these prices, if even.
Would you believe me if I told you that Hermes’ Birkin and Kelly bags used to sell in the pre owned market for LESS than RETAIL? 😬 I am intrigued to see where both primary and secondary markets are heading from now on 🍿🥤
I love love love that Chanel pearl bag. I've been trying to get it for a while now. I was hesitating because they do have fakes of that particular bag that you can buy for $400 Canadian dollars. I decided to pull the trigger and had one in my cart at about $14,000 CAD and was in the process of checking out when all of the sudden it changed prices to just under $22,000 CAD and said it was sold. They're now selling at $28,000 CAD. You have to wonder what Chanel's profit margin is if they can make a very good quality fake for $400.
@@ameliarosescloset I know. That's why I was hesitating but I really want the bag and the only way you can get it now is through a reseller. I'm surprized that Chanel hasn't released something similar. I'm hoping.
The pearl mini is only going to sell for £20,000 on vestiaire if someone is silly enough to pay it. And that’s what I really dislike. The person who listed the bag for £20,000 did so just to see if they could find someone desperate enough to pay that. It’s the height of greed. They havent been successful of course but the fact that there’s people out there trying to squeeze money out of buyers really grates with me.
Looks like people have finally come to their senses with some of those bags sitting on the market. I had the opportunity to buy that rose gold mini flap in the boutique and passed on it. I didn’t think it was worth the $3300USD and I certainly don’t think it’s worth it now…so it just blows my mind that others are willing to pay those prices!
I think the resale market is all over the place tbh. Some resellers that are now more well known are increasing the prices of the same items they got listed a month ago! Also Vestiaire removed their commission from the seller but introduced a buyer service fee instead which is the same cause as a seller I still have to price low considering how much extra the buyer has to pay and the buyer doesn’t really get anything for that buyer service fee!! Still have to pay separate for Vestiaire authentication service and the delivery fee!! 🤷🏼♀️
There's nothing wrong with the resale market. If somebody is happy to pay £14.000 for a bag that costs less than £200 to make and its designer sold in the shop for £8.000... good for the reseller! I personally would not spend so much money in something that is second hand, off season, and that at the end of the day, still has a possibility, even if tiny, of being a conterfeit. But hey! Each to their own. No bags would ever cost more than £500 if nobody paid the price for them. But then... people wouldn't feel special owning them, would they?
I just can’t swallow to pay 25K for an Hermes bag! Bear in mind the one I want is 7K in store so… I am willing to pay double the price for it but not more. I ADORE the bag, I am lusting after it for 3 years now but I just can’t! Just the thought of it makes me sick 😢 so even though I still didn’t get my bag from the store I rather wait and keep renewing the wish 🫠 even if the bag will never come

Right! Exactly this. Be honest in the description
Agree- the description needs to be exact. I've bought a few bags where it wasn't exact
I think a lot of people regret passing on this one
I'm not into the resale market. I've even had all 3 houses I've owned built. Can't do used cars either. Maybe that's a part of OCD. If I could, I would buy something from the original LV denim collection 💙
Love that you built your houses!
@@ameliarosescloset thanks 😊
One point not mentioned is that this HUGE prices from resellers, is the fact that it has drived the dupe market in a big way. And the leathercrafters in Asia who make a premium dupe for 10% of these prices, if even.
I think we should dive into that in another video
@@ameliarosescloset I agree! Love to give you more of my input that was too much to write on this that I found out.
Would you believe me if I told you that Hermes’ Birkin and Kelly bags used to sell in the pre owned market for LESS than RETAIL? 😬 I am intrigued to see where both primary and secondary markets are heading from now on 🍿🥤
Really!?
@@ameliarosescloset Yes.
That VC Fendi I showed you is still available, and still scaring me! 😱🤣
Ahhh it's a beauty
I am still thinking about your coral Chanel bag with plastic. Miss it in your collection. I hope the person who got it loves it.
I hope so too!
I noticed the Real Real has a LV nice Mini vanity for $200 USD MORE than what the cost is NEW on LV website. What’s that about?!
That’s just crazy
People's frenzy to buy luxury goods during lockdown is beyond me 😂 it really says we should get checked.
It was a frenzy
I love love love that Chanel pearl bag. I've been trying to get it for a while now. I was hesitating because they do have fakes of that particular bag that you can buy for $400 Canadian dollars. I decided to pull the trigger and had one in my cart at about $14,000 CAD and was in the process of checking out when all of the sudden it changed prices to just under $22,000 CAD and said it was sold. They're now selling at $28,000 CAD. You have to wonder what Chanel's profit margin is if they can make a very good quality fake for $400.
That is so much money, if it turned out to be a fake!
OMG!! Did they get a refund? What site?
@@francescathegreat1 The purchase didn't go through.
Some are definitely taking advantage of
Looks like people have finally come to their senses with some of those bags sitting on the market. I had the opportunity to buy that rose gold mini flap in the boutique and passed on it. I didn’t think it was worth the $3300USD and I certainly don’t think it’s worth it now…so it just blows my mind that others are willing to pay those prices!
I’m a bit like this with the pearl mini
i just saw a tiffany x fendi leather baguette for 4k USD. last year that bag was selling for a bit over the retail price of 5k.
They are coming down
I think the resale market is all over the place tbh. 🤷🏼♀️
I didn't know that about vc!
I saw Hermes bags sitting on Vestiaire…not many ppl willing to pay the circa $20k asking prices. Not such a great ‘investment’ piece after all!
Too much money, bags are not financial investments
Are the pearls even real on that chanel? Is it fabric or leather? Is it even gold plated?
No Chanel pearls are real.
No the pearls Chanel uses on bags aren't real, the bag is leather I believe and no not gold plated.
Not real pearls and not gold plated, it is leather i think
So a super rare bag has a high price?….yeah, that’s basic economics and supply and demand…
It's more than that
I think bag owners that provide the receipt when they sell their bags to resellers should receive a little bonus, like an extra 50. IMO
Agree with this
There will always be a fool for a smart, simple like that.
Some people will be willing to pay
I thought you were going to address how many SUPER FAKES ARE BEING SOLD RESALE 🤮
anyone else find it strange they have hundreds of In season bags?!
This is today's video!!
The same thing happened to Rolex because China was selling. The mini thing might be them selling again.
Oh interesting
👍🏻
There's nothing wrong with the resale market. If somebody is happy to pay £14.000 for a bag that costs less than £200 to make and its designer sold in the shop for £8.000... good for the reseller! I personally would not spend so much money in something that is second hand, off season, and that at the end of the day, still has a possibility, even if tiny, of being a conterfeit. But hey! Each to their own. No bags would ever cost more than £500 if nobody paid the price for them. But then... people wouldn't feel special owning them, would they?
True, it is a lot about the label
anyone else think that the voodoo doll shouldn’t be placed next to her head? just me? i can’t focus 🧘
lol! I must move her!
@@ameliarosescloset please 😂
The 18s emerald green mini is still going for around $15,000 USD. Great video. I agree with your thoughts on the pearl mini! 🫶🏻
😂 👏
Don’t worry it’s not a voodoo doll, it’s just a little witch. Better or worse?! ❤😂
I just can’t swallow to pay 25K for an Hermes bag!
Bear in mind the one I want is 7K in store so… I am willing to pay double the price for it but not more.
I ADORE the bag, I am lusting after it for 3 years now but I just can’t! Just the thought of it makes me sick 😢 so even though I still didn’t get my bag from the store I rather wait and keep renewing the wish 🫠 even if the bag will never come
This is me with the mini kelly
@@ameliarosescloset Same MK to me as well 😩😭
