the biggest thing i was able to transfer between real life and sim was RACECRAFT. if you can understand your spacing without those little radar assists in sim, you can do that IRL. you'll understand how to leave just enough space and battle hard, but with sim you're certainly not as stressed as going side by side through a tight corner irl

Mental state is the first thing I noticed when I brought my CLS55 AMG to Harris Hill Raceway. So fun, but you need to be strong mentally.

Ever since I started playing racing games more realistically, I've approached cars and tracks like I would a real car/track. You don't push over the edge immediately and dial it back, you work your way up to your threshold, then the threshold of your skill/equipment.
I think if more people approached driving in this way, they're already armed with the mentality they need to start pushing a car to it's limits.
Just enjoy the experience within your comfort level, and you'll no doubt get faster!

This is great. I've been sim racing for the larger part of my life. Nearly 30 years at this point. I was destined to be a motorsports enthusiast at a young age, but I took it upon myself to learn how to race, through games like Papyrus' NASCAR Racing, the Gran Turismo series, Forza, GTR 2, and countless other sim, sim-cade, and arcade titles.
Not all physics are realistic in all racing games. But, if you learn how to race, that knowledge translates to all forms of racing. Arcade, sim, or real life.
Since I've been a desktop racer for so long, I've always advocated how beneficial sim racing is to real life experience. Knowing what to do to control a vehicle is universal. I've seen sim racers win championships in real cars, and sim drifters hop in 900HP monsters for their first time ever and treat it like a walk in the park.
Thank you for your efforts to shed light on how amazing sim racing is, and how similar it is to the real thing. You can't play FIFA, Madden, NBA2K, or most other sports titles and learn what it takes to do it in real life. But since the first time someone programmed a virtual car to "realistically" go around a virtual track, we've all been able to learn the ins and outs of racing from the comfort of our homes.
The only thing left is to put that knowledge to practice. Trust the time you've spent churning out laps and be the best racer you can be!

View makes a lot of difference. Cockpit view will lower the car noise but increase the tire noise. You can really tell when you are losing grip or locking brakes. Helped me with being consistent and gained better times. I actually drive my road car better as well. It is a fantastic tool. Love sim racing.

Completely agree with everything you said here except one thing. I’m 100% sure it’s easier to save a car in real life because there is so much more sensory information to be proactive with.
Maybe with more laps under your belt in the F4 car, you’d get to the same feeling?

My feeling is that I send the car hard in the sim since the lap one, and I abuse it 500% more than in real life.
So i feel it's easier to save simply because we're not doing stupid sends all the time. I need more laps for sure to reflect more on that!

I agree completely with everything this man says. I race legend cars on short ovals, and I also spend many hours on the sim at home. The forces applied to a driver when racing ESPECIALLY on a high-banked short track are immense. Funny, enough, the brake pedal feels similar to that of a Logitech G29, very stiff. and the lines and techniques used are similar in the sim if you use the same setup, because oval racing is highly dependent on setup for how you drive the car. my last race, I struggled through practice because I got a new seat and I would not be able to turn the wheel fully because the seat got in the way. That in one thing he missed, the unpredictability of real life. Well, thanks for reading I guess, idk why you decided to read all of this but have a good day

How's your experience in real life so far? How does it compare to sim racing?
I forgot one of the biggest differences... Money.
It's insane how much you can spend in a single weekend in real life. A weekend in real life could cost what it takes to build a high-end sim racing rig that you can race for years. It's definitely worth it trying at some point in your life, though, the experience is just uncomparable!

    • @JReaLBiz86

The reason I haven't dabbled in real-life racing is my budget. Sim racing always made more sense, and now sim equipment is so good that what you learn through your eyes and arms is almost a direct translation.
I have done some karting, and my time in racing games in general has definitely made me a top competitor multiple times. Even had a place offer me a free session because I was so close to beating the track record! (didn't beat it tho lol)

It's just a video game unless you are directly using it as a tool in application to real life racing.
A very small percentage of us are ever going to drive a real life GT3, Formula car or WRC rally car so it's not really "simulating" any experience for the average gamer. What you can pick up though, are some skillsets that are transferable over to real life like race craft and the mechanical techniques like trail braking and countsteering, etc.
The real problem is that there aren't enough racing sims that simulate more "grass roots" and amateur level racing that people are more likely to encounter. I would like to see more karting, autocross and production car level racing in simulators.

Love this. Totally agree from what I can tell from simracing and real driving (not in races though), and it makes sense that sims need more tirenoise, because of the lack of G. I remember seeing Ben Collins visiting Jimmy Broadbent to help him with his step to our virtual world, because he couldn't feel the G forces and kept crashing.
Very curious to see what kind of lessons you are giving, checking it out now.

What I've always loved about driving/racing games is that what you learn becomes a tool for everyday driving. Not that anybody should be burning up expressways, but knowing how to brake properly (or engine brake when using a manual, as well as heel-toe), or control the car in case of a skid, it all works in real life

Although the SIM Racing games may give you an idea what some of the real tracks look like (depending on how real they are designed in the game), driving a real Race Car on a real track is a whole different ballgame. That is if you have never driven any kind of real Race Car.
They do have driving schools that people can go to and get a little training and take a few laps around certain tracks. After that, So it is what your goals and desires are and if you want to continue to be a Real Race Car Driver.
There are allot of very good competitive drivers that you would be going up against and how good you would be in close car to car racing. It takes allot of hours on the tracks and the feel of the car to be competitive. Then there are the expenses to do the racing.
Thanks for the video and take care.

junior formula at homestead miami? i miss when iracing used to run it with star mazda's or FR2.0 never seen it on F3 calendar. If motion rig isnt gonna give realism how about devicies like buttkicker and so on?

    • @JReaLBiz86
      @JReaLBiz86 Год назад

If you don't mind me answering, I think things like buttkickers do give more of a tactile experience in sim racing, which helps with immersion. You could say the added immersion also helps with your mentality when approaching real racing, because you focus more on exactly what you're doing, and how what you're doing affects what the car does.
That said, it's still only a tool to help you get a sense of what a rumble strip feels like, or the vibrations of the engine, etc. It wouldn't provide any more of a sense of realism than a motion rig would. I think there's some takeaway from motion rigs, VR and vibration units, and some people may find them helpful, but they can't recreate a true sensation of the car.
