      You say that but show me a top 15 "most skilled players in NBA history" list with Rudy gobert, draymond green, Dennis Rodman, and marcus smart... Come on man... Yes defense requires skill but it's more instinct, effort and athleticism than something like dribbling or shooting... That's all they're brou is saying....

    • @QuentinLucasQLuke
      @QuentinLucasQLuke 3 месяца назад +5

      @amac9044 Bill Russell, Kobe, Jordan, LeBron, Duncan, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Kevin Garnett, Giannis, Dream, and even Shaq were all deadly defenders at varied points of their career ... footwork, stamina, understanding opponent habits, situational defense (go for the steal/block or just stay in front of the opponent), and athleticism (speed, strength, power, quickness) -- defense might be the most exhausting part of the game ... that's why physical freaks like A.I. could lead the league in steals by attacking bad passing lanes but were never consistent defensive threats.
      One of the worst basketball takes Brou has ever had.

      Not saying Brou is correct, but he means this.
      Being skilled comes from hard working in training, learning new tricks, increasing "the bag".
      Defense comes from "effort", hard work during the games, it doesn't take so much learning.

    • @nsmith3128
      @nsmith3128 3 месяца назад

      I think people are born with talent. Some people work on that talent and it becomes a skill. Then theres a small group of people who are so skilled at something its acknowledged as a gift. I think LeBron is as hardworking of an athlete as we've ever seen. He can shoot a 1000 jumpers a day, he'll never be Steph, Klay or Ray Allen. The way people feel about Steph's ability to shoot is the way I feel about Kyrie handles and ability to finish at the rim. I think Kyrie and Steph are gifted.
      Defense is effort. There are super athletic people who aren't good defensively. There are great defenders who weren't super athletic. A good coach could teach a kid to become Jrue Holiday. Its all about want to. Ive seen Carmelo Anthony lock in randomly on defense and give people problems and he was considered "not good" defensively.

      All of it can be improved upon, but everyone has a fastest possible speed they could ever reach. For me, it might be a 4.7 40 yard dash. For Xavier Worthy, it's 4.21. The best vertical I ever had was 37". No matter how much training I put in, I never would have reached the 48" that Jordan hit. That's the difference in terms of being gifted. No matter how much work I put in, I never could have been stronger than Shaq or Wilt.

    Brou saying defense isn't a skill is a ludicrous statement. There's a skill to defending and it's no just effort. Effort is required in offense as well.

      Not to the extent of shot creating, ball handling, shooting then play making. A prime James Harden would be considered far more skilled then Dennis Rodman. Rodman is considered top 5 in defense and rebounding all time and below average offensive player and Harden probably not considered a top 10 offensive player of all time.

      Brou misspoke, but he's right that offense is far more complex than defense. If it was the same level, then all time great defenders would completely stop all time great offensive players. But that isn't true is it?

      It's half skill half physically gifted to be a great defensive player. It's all skill when it comes to shot creating, ball handling, shooting the ball and play making. Steph Curry is actually a very good technical defender. He is a very willing defender but his lack of gifted physical attributes that holds him back from being a great defender.
