This movie wrecks me every time. It reminds me of the film Coming Out (1989), another German film, by how they both discover themselves but are lonely and lose both their Wife and the man they truly love. This speaks so true to the emotional toll of coming out, but that feeling that it did nothing. That feeling that everyone saying it gets better was lying and that you are no happier than before. It's powerful because it doesn't show the world the gay romantic comedy people assume of many gay men's lives, it shows something more real. It shows the loneliness of not thinking anyone will accept you or that you will never find someone. It isn't glamorized and made to seem like a fairy-tale it is very real and I love that.
