you are so lucky that there was no queue, it usually takes 3 hours as a bruneian to get to miri on a weekend. to answer your curiousity about the flags, typically we raise the flag twice a year, during national day and his majesty's birthday. i'm kinda sad that you used mini north korea to describe brunei, even if it was for clickbait, but i hope you enjoy your time in brunei. we are warm people.
