I know this is probably going to sound dumb, but I had to tell you. When I 1st saw this video I had to learn how to do it! And I did. It took me watching the video 2 or 3 times because I'm left handed and not right handed. That being said, I want you to know that I was 10 rows into my blanket when my son died. Very tragic. The night he died I croched for 18 hours. And then up until last week I never picked it up again. I started working on the blanket again and it's been a real inspiration. I felt like I totally forgot how to do the stitch again lol if it wasn't for your loving and kind teaching ability. I may never have picked up crocheting again.I just want you to know how much I love your teaching and the things that you make. Thank you .

I am German, originally from the Palatinate, now living not too far from the border to Bavaria. I have been crocheting for 58 years now and, honestly, I must admit that I have never been more impressed with a tutorial! You're one in a million...
Thanks to the heavens, I learned English... so I could follow each very step on your beautiful piece of work.
Your humour in combination with a patience equal to Mahatma Ghandi is delicious!
I hope I can find the same yarn for that showpiece of yours at the beginning of your video.
I loved that one more than your tutorial piece. Is there a link to purchase it?
    Again, my compliment for this.
I subscribed within the first minute.
    Thank you

tip from my aunt who taught me as a girl - when chaining a row, put in a marker every 5 stitches (yarn scraps work well) That way, when counting back, you have a landmark to count off of. For larger projects, she would map out where the "target" stitches were, so she didn't have to count them backwards after she started working, and it made it easier to get under both loops of the chain.

Hi Fiber Spider. I really appreciate the slow enough pace, thorough, and patient crocheting so that we can see exactly where to place our hook for each stitch and yarn-over. The explanations as we go along are extra helpful. You display a great attitude for helping teach instead of acting like we already know what we're doing.

Because of covid and a good friend who stopped laughing long enough to correct my comedy-gold-level errors, I achieved the lifelong goal of learning to crochet a year ago in May. I have yet to really use any of my dudes tutorials to practice a new stitch, but I can’t stop watching because my dude amazes me. No fear of failure, no fear of committing to complex and massive undertakings. No backing down from stitch patterns that require loads of accurate counting or vast lengths of yarn or color changes. I know it’s just string, but I declare this man brave. Crocheters understand.

My football playing boyfriend taught me the basic stitches in the 1960's. It wasn't easy or me to learn it for some reason and he did not teach me how to read patterns or make anything before he went off to Vet Nam In the mid 80's I decided I really wanted to make something...so I bought a pattern book, picked a pattern, bought the required amount of thread and a set of needles, and taught myself how to read the patterns and create afghans. I did good. I have looked at this particular pattern on the work of others I have found in thrift shops and could never figure out how to start it. I ran across this video, by accident and decided to quickly check it out and come back to it later to watch it thoroughly. I watched it completely at the first sitting. I have looked at and watched other demonstrations, I have also looked at many pattern books and courses over the years and I will say that I could not believe how simple this young person made this difficult stitch; how well he displayed the pattern; how patient he spoke and worked to actually SHOW a beginner how to work. This young person actually cleared up points that I have wondered if I was doing correctly for nearly 40 years! He has got to be one o the most gifted teachers I have ever run across in any media.....and I have learned a lot of stuff in my life, both self taught and by teachers. Thank You so much for taking the time to create these videos...I will be passing them along to my grandchildren who want to learn, but don't have the patience with me to learn....I assume anyone can see what I am doing....I'm not the greatest teacher. I am so impressed! Thank You! =o)

At the beginning of Covid, I decided to learn how to read crochet symbol instructions on making things. Through many trials and tribulations I mastered the ability to follow the chart to make a beautiful shawl. But now I want to take the written instructions and turn them into symbols but whoa baby, it’s very hard for me. For this beautiful Bavarian Blanket, I’ve been sitting here for hours writing down FS’s words…ahhhhh. I’m now to rnd 3. For me, I have to write down everything he says..but I do use some abbreviations. How about some of you smarter crocheters out there put these instructions into word pattern form. I’m writing every a, and, and the. His video is fantastic and easy to follow..his camera doesn’t get blurry…words are clear. Perfect teacher! And I understand that there are many more excellent teachers out there but like everyone says, voice is very calming…just what we all need during these stressful times. Thank you FS for making me feel better.

I just started crocheting last week and while doing research I came across your channel. I have to say WOW! You do such beautiful work and I love that you go slow enough that I can follow what you're doing.. Even though what you do is way do advanced for me right now I have a lot to look forward to!

I'm from Germany living in Ireland and usually translate all the terms as British and American terms are not the same for whatever reason. Here I didn't do it at all. The instruction is so absolutely clear and perfect that you just need to grab your yarn and join in - it works. Hardly saw anything so brilliant before. Thanks a lot!

Love how soothing and calm he speaks and isn’t going too fast Or Too slow bc that messes me up too! I’m excited to try this… I’ve just immersed myself into knitting and crocheting thanks to YT. Since my gma died and my mom doesn’t know how.. this is the best alternative & I won’t make the mistake with my 3 kids! All daughters too🤭 I’ll pass on the knowledge from this gentleman. I’m late IK but Ty so much for taking the time to teach, post and share🥰🙌🏽👍🏽

I so enjoy the patterns you put tutorials. Your detail instructions help me so very much. I can not for the life of me figure out instructions. I've have created my own from around age of 13. I'm 58 now. I have even purchased so many from antique shops to use as patterns. Thank you for this "Crochet For Dummies!"

Yes! I saw this tip on another channel, just the other day. I did that, and i made my initial row SO much neater looking and easier to do, actually. That initial row is always such a mess for me , so I think this will make a big difference in future work.

Thank you so much, I started years ago to make a Bavarian Blanket and I got bored, because to change every second row with a new color, this was to much for me. How do you make a Bavarian Square Blanket? Could I use this Blanket as a Lapblanket for my Mother ( she is 88 years old) in Germany, and she is always cold..............Again thank you so much When I hear your voice it calms me down and I know I can do it...................Great job.

Always fond of the old fashioned pineapple pattern... but...this Bavarian stitch has become my new favorite. So extremely lovely. Thank you for wearing out your fingers making sure every stitch is perfectly clear. My first attempt will be using this design as a wide, flowing shawl in a light weight wool and silk blend. This video takes the boredom out of repeat patterns and your work is of course perfection.
