      There was not true Indians.
      Real Americans are mongols.
When Columbus reach here he called Indians. red Indian
Because the native Americans were red
      Indian breed is brown black

Doesn't matter about his ethnicity or race or colour of skin.... he's proper indian........I hve lived abroad almost 25 years of live in western Europe... and I hve seen indians living here just for 4 years says they try and avoid saying they are indians and this man says his indian...so proudly.... it's so beautiful... honnestly i salute you sir!

Well that depends. He is not an American but an Indian (though ethnically he is White). As for Indians who avoid saying they are Indians even after living only for 4 years outside India, well it's their problem.

@Aurangzeb Ali what security you mean? This is my 16th year living in Europe and i never tried to hide i am Indian. I accept we had problems in India and it is not as nice as here but i can never run away from the fact that i am Indian and i don't want to hide it. People who want to hide their identity have serious inferiority complex. I am here to contribute to my career, finances and economy of my host country, I respect their values, and development they have done. I am not ashamed of who I am, I have seen Indians walking in Europe, they are sulking, walking with shoulders down, avoiding eye contact when another Indian looking person passing by, not all are like this but 80% for sure. I feel pity for their miserable mindset.

Karthik Sankaran Hindustani should be revived it gives softness to actors faces and gives sophistication. Today all speak like a boring Hindi professor. I stopped watching Hindi films cause no more pure freshness in dialogues. When they speak Hindi it's like they are fighting making actors look very old and grouchy example Amitabh Bachchan.Leave Hindi for classrooms or special movies. Hindustani and Urdu should be revived for Hindi films again.

Because of people like tom alter ji among a few others like utpal dutt, amol palekar, naseeruddin shah, these kind of actors defined that era of bollywood which was indeed great!

Tom Alter is more Indian in spirit than most of Indians. Just amazed at how much he and his family have been rooted in the Indian culture. His language skills are impeccable. The way he recites those Urdu shayaris, his diction of Hindi, Urdu, English, etc. But above all this, what a gentleman and a broad-minded person. Unbelievable! I had tears in my eyes towards of what he was saying... very impressive interview. Possibly my favourite so far that I have seen on Guftagoo. Forget about his acting or performances, he is a true legend just by his views and talks. No one has such depth in talks even Superstars of India like Amitabh are nothing in front of his intellectual. It's sad that he left us too early...

I am from Saharanpur, very close to Jagadri, during this interview sometimes I can feel a glimpse of West UP accent in his Urdu..😂😍😍. Your actual accent of that place where you have grown up, never dies. What a wonderful Urdu speaker he is! And a deep intectual personality. 😍😍 RIP dear Tom Sir.
A legend never dies, and you are a lengend...

What a mature interview! When I started watching I was wondering what he would talk about for more than an hour. Little did I realize that Tom can talk on a range of relevant topics besides Hindi Cinema, like philosophy, life, and politics. I used to feel sorry for Tom because I felt that if he wasn't so white he would have gone places in the Hindi film industry. But he has little regret. He counts his blessings more than his curses. A wise man! Irfan saab, bring him back again.
BTW, the "abhi yaad aegas" are:
    1. Sanjeev Kumar & Dilip Kumar's movie: Sunghursh (1968)
    2. Jeetendra & Tanuja: Jeene Ki Raah (1969)
    3. Anand (1971) doctor: Ramesh Deo

I had certain reservations, at first coz it was already way past mid night, but once the interview started, I couldn't resist the temptation to listen him more, now it's 2:50AM and the interview is over but the lasting impression Mr.Alter had made will last forever...

Many people here commented on Tom Alter's very good hindi and urdu speaking skill. No question about that.
But it is his opinions on India, its religious diversity, the need to protect this delicate institution, his advice to sit face to face and talk to each other, rather than 24/7 preoccupation with internet and cell phone,... these are far more interesting and important.
