No, Aerith is alive. Tifa had static and saw both worlds. One, Aerith is covered in blood. Two, Cloud blocked Sephiroth and Aerith isn't harmed. Now, here's how you know which is which. Seph needed to force Cloud and company into the World Between Worlds with the key to get the black materia. This happened right when Tifa saw static. The WBW Temple is not on the Northern continent, only in the Main. The WBW is the OG game. Seph has taken everyone except Aerith to the OG world. That is why Aerith seems dead. Cloud understands it's an illusion. Cissnei doesn't feel Zack is dead either.
The Dyne scene is a chronic problem with Square-Enix not understanding what makes tragic villains iconic. They did the same thing to Sephiroth over a much longer period of time, they delete basically every and any connection he had to humanity in the original, the real feeling of betrayal at Shinra and the visceral disgust he began to feel for humanity upon discovering (incorrectly) through Ghast's research that Jenova was a Cetra and that they were harvesting her DNA through actual tissue from her body to create their super-soldiers. The Squenix version of Sephiroth is a flashy copy of Aizen where everything that happens has to be part of some plan of his. Squenix Sephiroth is a glorified cutscene-generator.
Just report that spammer. This is like his 8th account, because he cannot accept the fact, that there are people, who can use their braincells and not follow everyone blindly. 😅
@@manwithballsonarm6775 Wow, that shows that even square enix knows he's annoying and not a value add. Insane to keep it in. Imagine if there was an option to "turn off Tifa" dialogue.. at that point why are we playing ff7?
I've heard people say zacks story is actually very important. So it's nice that the options menu let's you skip All of his segments. You know because it's important 😂
Convoluted storytelling is a way for them to cover up shitty and lazy writing. Its like them trying to say "we're so enigmatic in our storytelling you just dont understand" when really its "we really do not know what the hell we're writing and we've written ourselves into a corner so we leave it up to your interpretation." And it really shows in the final chapter of rebirth. Squeenix writers have been doing this crap for a while, they dont realize that simple storytelling is more effective, now i fear they've been caught up in their own narrative web to be able to give a coherent part 3 conclusion. Even after part 3 i think there still will be more questions than answers since rebirth now raises even more questions
I complete agree with almost all points. No idea what people are smoking to think this game is in any way good, this was my most anticipated game of the year and i've never been more let down
So instead of the OG plot of "get Black Materia, summon Meteor, nearly destroy the planet to harvest all the lifestream energy," it's "Get Cloud and the others to kill fate itself, to cause timelines to split, then bring the timelines back together, and get the Black Materia, summon Meteor, and and nearly destroy the planet to harvest all the lifestream energy." Sure Nomura, those extra, superfluous steps were totally necessary.
We're not sure what the plot is even about, in terms of Sephiroth's plans. Remake part 1 and Rebirth are basically big nothing and filler. Part 3 will supposedly tell us what Sephiroth wants to do. It's all bullshit tbh.
Forget about Cloud embracing his true identity. Being comfortable with his own skin and treating his mental trauma. No. We need some more time janitors and kingdom heart multiversal bullcrap.
Im going to call it now, Sephiroth was able to summon meteor and destroy the world due to Cloud and the gang struggling on the damn unnecessary mini games because they were to hard and stupid.
@@ReignofIndepencehold up...let him cook. Some of the minigames would have been impossible for some people to beat if there wasnt any RUclips guides. And some are still impossible (Legendary and brutal) even with guides.
"There are many occasions where taking one hit, leads you to getting wombo-comboed into like three more attacks before you can regain control of your character." This is how controllers die.
@@evasivedre370 I know I was too engrossed in the game, but most modern combat games (God of war for example) automatically pause if the pad dies , useful But minor I love the game, theres still so much of the plot for the third game my hope is they straighten out the confusion
Modern gaming has an infuriating problem. If I’m going to play a video game, I don’t want to do stuff that I might have to do in real life that resembles a chore. Why the fuck would I do that? I’m playing a video game because I can’t do things like run around the world with a giant sword and defeat monsters .
It's actually so hilarious that they brilliantly make an argument against rampant corporatism, with Shinra abusing the planet and people to make profits, best illustrated with the Gold Saucer where people entertain themselves with cheap minigames and use an enormous lot of energy, whilst the outside is a desert wasteland. But then...The game itself is a Gold Saucer...Meaning...As a player you are the idiot getting abused by Shinra (Square Enix) for profits. Its all so ironic.
I remember when I did the Chicken sidequest in Gongaga, I too, was livid over that nonsense. When the last chicken was meters out from the town, I was like, "Fuck no, I'm not dragging that chicken all the way back to the town like that. This thing can die out here in the jungle for all I give a shit." Luckily it was just a side-boss battle that needed done, and the chicken died by the old lady anyways. Other than that, I agree with most of your points about the game.
I'm still enjoying it but ye they could done better. I'd rather fight then do the horrible mini games, even if that fight is tough. The og never had this many annoying mini games square just padding here. I ofter wonder in the 140gb game how much combat vs mini games there is. I'm 3 quarters in the game and stopped there as chadley is just ruining the game for me. Why can't we just have secret item, weapons and materia like og, Instead all the items just given to us like now we don't need search secret summons anymore which kills gameplay.
A poorly written game with childish characters all over the place. A bad map and dissapointing art style. Mini games which are cool at first but feels boring quite fast.... A game that is boring after A while and there is no wow effect anywhere. The music is bland and the old game had a lot more charm and soul. This is a 6 out of 10 at best.
I don't see a lot of people talking about how there's tons of small performance issues in this game too. Jank controls, when digging with chocobos, jank box tossing, jank grapple hook, wonky camera, bizarre lighting when entering caves. A lot of the tutorials are poorly written. I'm just thinking like holy hell, this is FF7 and Square puts out a game that seems to me maybe 85 to 90% finished.
THANK YOU! I felt like I was in a crappy multiverse story the way everyone else seems to be praising this game. They must have paid an intern to throw boxes as Cait Sith.
I just finished the game. And i just want to say that thank goodness I am not the only who shares the same sentiments that FF7 rebirth has major flaws in its gameplay and story. It's pacing is super slow, it feels like watching an anime with 50% fillers
@Wonkasimpson699 nah you are, but go ahead and consume product, don't as questions, just get excited for next product. Be an NPC that think this game is perfect when it's Inferior to the original in every way except for graphics.
And not only that, the plot is just SHIT. Even without the filler. I swear when sephiroth drops the black materia and tells Cloud to fetch it, Or when Barrett throws away the Black materia, I just wanted to take the PS5 and throw it away.
Padding is the only thing I didn't like about the game. There were a couple of unnecessary missions thrown into the game. Some of them are so boring that I stopped playing for a few days. But overall, I think the game is solid. And as someone who knew these games were not going to be exactly like the original, I'm curious about where the story is heading. Let's see what they do with the multiverse thing. It's either going to surprise the players or it's going to land flat on its face.
@@Ninjaplayer445 After some time away from my experience of this game. I have now decided it was absolute trash. Waste of time. They should have ended it with one game. FF7 is dead. FF is dead. lol
Me and my friend were a huge fan of Arkane Studios. We were so hyped for Deathloop before it came out. We both played it, and couldn’t believe IGN gave it a 10/10. We thought the mission structure sucked forcing you to stay in one area, no time progression unless you moved missions. Powers only limited to two (whereas dishonoured you could have loads) I suspect that all of this was due to them forcing multiplayer on you. And I feel everyone loved it. Something similar here with FF7 rebirth. I got to chapter 11 and uninstalled the game. I couldn’t believe someone thought forcing players to slowly move around as Cait Sith throwing boxes for an hour was a good idea.
The games don't just have flaws. They're a hate-letter to original Final Fantasy fans by a dude who's so butthurt about the original creator's success that he's willing to destroy the past to leave his mark. Just look at the Nomura interviews. It's scorched earth.
@@rclaws3230 Broo nomura had huge hand in the orginal. So you don’t know what you’re talking about. He literally made the original cast. And he huge hand in the original plot.
@@KritoSkywakerExcept he's not in full control. Hamaguchi is directing, Kitase is head honcho producer, and Nojima is writing. Nomura has a marginal hand in it as well since he's now on KH4.
This game was touched by Ubisoft and nobody can’t tell me anything. So much filler and side quests that completely ruins the overall experience. I’m still in chapter 9 and have dropped it for Stellar Blade lol.
Agreed, i'm having more fun with Stellar Blade than Rebirth, at least the textures don't go crazy in Stellar Blade and it doesn't have a horrible amount of padding like this game
Holy shit you just describe me exactly. Dropped the game halfway. Was so tired of being sidetracked which kills the pace of the story. Considering buying stellar blade after enjoying the demo.
This review captures everything I felt about the game and I’m truly flabbergasted that people are actually giving square enix a pass or even enjoying it. Like you said, it’s almost like square enix set out to make the most frustrating and tedious gameplay experience.
You nailed it, man. I couldn't play it for long sessions. I average 3 hours a day with it, but I play it multiple times. Like 15-40 minutes, then put it on rest mode and return when I feel like it. The game battle is not that hard, but in my first run, I had to put it in easy mode because the battles are just damn too long Lol. There are still great moments, like chapter 12: I completed all the intel and I love Queens Blood, but some of the sidequests are a chore.
Anti Fun is the best way I can describe this game. 90% of it is unskippable nonsense filler, and even if you just push the main story it is filled with the same unskippable forced nonsense. Nothing matters until the last 2 chapters outside of barret/red development. I absolutely loved Remake, but I just wanted Rebirth's Chadley Slavery Simulator to be over as fast as possible
I actually can't stand chadley is one of the biggest things that ruined it. Soon as I seen him in remake I knew this plauge of a npc would not leave me alone. He's just boring and never want listen to him, got no character in him his just a blank npc. I swear square no this but just ran out ideas.
I haven't played ever crisis. That looks to be like a more 1 to 1 remake with just added cut scenes and lore bolted to the CORE story not injected into or replacing anything. Has anyone played it or is my assumption about that wrong?
@@FF-Nationit’s not a 1:1 the whole story is broken in scene like mini stories, can’t really play the game like the OG and I haven’t seen any open world aspect to it
I am just kinda burned on remakes generally. Both the movie and games industry seems to have become creatively bankrupt, choosing to milk nostalgia instead of trying something new. Some new ideas float to the top but they are floating on a literal ocean of repetition.
Resident evil and dead space remakes were both amazing. Super mario rpg and updated zeldas have been amazing too. Think it depends on the company. Square Enix has been striking out for years
I share the same sentiment, I think it's a bit of a safer bet for them given (supposedly) how much it costs to make these games, they can always rely on recouping some money from people buying them for the namesake alone if anything
Bro Remake/Rebirth is a sequel. It's not a "Remake" and is it really that hard to grasp that? People bring the same shitty argument all the fucking time. It's so obvious that Sephiroth never died in AC.
@@agamersinsanity This guy has not played the original clearly. Lol. They literally called the first part final fantasy remake lool. And advertised it as a remake. They either outright lied or falsely advertised?? Jenova has a mimic ability and can appear as anyone or anything. Sephiroth gains this ability from Jenova. Jenova has the ability to call a reunion to gather her individual parts should she become separated. Sephiroth gains this ability from jenova. (Sephiroth was infused with Jenova cells in the womb) It is not a sequel. Sephiroth did die in final fantasy 7 ps1. He died at Nibelheim , he falls into the lifestream with Jenovas head. The lifestream cannot absorb him as he is not from the planet and he ends up in a mako cocoon in the northern crater where he is healing and soaking up mako. He then uses Jenovas mimic ability to control people that has jenovas cells to call a reunion to recreate his mother. When he learns about the black materia he decides to use it to attack the planet and siphon off the planets healing abilities to repair itself. Making sephiroth into a god like being. Where he can then continue Jenovas work of traveling the solar system to feed off of other planets life force. He manipulates cloud into bringing him the black materia which is used to summon meteor a powerful spell that can destroy the planet. Because cloud is infected with Jeniva cells. When the reunion is succesful we fight a weakend form of Jenova and then a reincarnated sephiropth. With sephiroth defeated cloud challenges the mental hold over him that sephiroth is using to manipulate him using Jenovas cells. The final battle is not a physical battle but a mental battle in clouds mind. In the movie sephorith once again can not be absorbed into the lifestream and his remnants desire a reuinuin they belive the reuinuin is to reunite with jenova but it is to reuinte Sephiroth eho has gained this ability from jenova. This is why his remnants exist. They seek to reunite with Jenova but really sephiroth is using them to reuinte his own body. The remake/rebirth is clearly going for a timeline where sephiroth was either successful or managed to escape his fate and is now looking for an alternate timeliness to remove aaerith and the white materia do he cannot be stopped. So this is an alternate sephiroth who has either been successful in taking over his particular universe and now seeks to control them all or has escaped his destiny and is now seeking to be successful. This is a remake and it is being done very poorly. Unfortunately.

Loved the original FF7, bought remake for 30$ on sale and still felt ripped off. Not gonna bother with Rebirth because like you said, it’s overhyped, and quite frankly a chore to play. The original let’s you explore and find your own quest while rebirth tries to force you to stick around and be their chore boy. I love the original FF7 but I hope this remake franchise dies a slow painful death 😂
If you aren't going to buy rebirth why hate on the game, I understand not buying it if you didn't like remake but leaving hate on a game you haven't touched seems pretty unfair imo.
@@yuta2094 I think it’s fair to say it’s the same old thing. Too many lock up attacks, same mediocre battle system, long and boring fetch quests. I recall they said they would have a function where you can move your level from remake to rebirth which I doubt was implemented. Forcing you to play a game all over again from scratch even though it’s a continuation. I wouldn’t dislike it so much if it wasn’t based on a game I so much appreciation for. Anyways now I got some bot kid spamming my comments. Making my dislike this video, it’s not my fault I’m sorry, it’s my instinctive nature.

@@Bowerdotjson True. I hate most of the new characters. Not because they are new and not in the original game, but because they are over the top exaggerated fillers. Roche, Madam X and the Bee guy… why!?! And I hated Johnny in Remake. And now there are 7 of him.
Agree with your review. This game felt like such a chore to complete. I don’t know why they couldn’t just stick with the og story… it’s literally already written for you Square Enix, why would you want to change it? Turn based definitely would have been better. Honestly all they needed to do was make another ff7 with good graphics. Keep everything else the same.
Thank you! I am so sick of the raving fanaticism with this game. You've highlighted a lot of my grievances with the story, gameplay, quests, etc. Let's also not forget about the horribly implemented Chadley challenges and sequences that require replaying sections or challenges multiple times because you fail the final round. Replaying the same sections repeatedly makes those sections extremely monotonous and boring. Bonds of Friendship anybody?
25:08 And this right here is why most people will play part 3: "I'm in too deep, so I might as well." It's sunken cost fallacy. You play it because you feel like you have to after playing the first two parts, even if you didn't enjoy the experience along the way. It's not that you *want* to play part 3 - it's that you are *obligated* to play part 3 after coming this far. Square Enix did not under the assignment imho. At this point the closest I'll get to what I actually wanted is to go get a copy of the original game on steam and mod the daylights out of it.
These games are a disaster. Horrible plot change, fetch quests, padded junk, and lifeless empty world. They promised witcher 3 story telling and quests but instead we get a disaster.
I absolutely agree with the complaints that you had about this game. Imo Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload are leagues better than FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth.
Shouldn't have been a Remake it should have been a Remaster. What was so wrong with the original OG story instead we went full kingdom hearts mode on the game.
"full Kingdom Hearts mode"? They didn't stop paying attention to the series and its fans before re-rereleasing a re-remake/maste rer;birth of Kingdom Hearts VII for the fiftieth time lmao.
This was a hard slap in the face to the original. I really feel like anybody who enjoyed this game just didn't have the same wiring as somebody that was around to play the original when it came out. They aren't used to good, slow, deep narratives or substance. They crave constant fast-paced dopamine hits that are tied to most products these days. Also, fck multiverse stories, they are always so so so lazy or needlessly complicated. Somehow, FF7 rebirth managed to pull off both simultaneously. They just wanted to cram as many fan-fav characters into the box as they could.. even if it broke all their bones in the process.
I just finished it an hour ago, the fact a lot of people want it to win the goty is beyond me. Pacing is ruined by boring exploration, awful constant mini games and awful subquests. Storytelling goes from fine to absolutely terrible. Even the fights that were a solid point for Remake are now brawlfests usually unreadable in small perimeters... I lost 80 hours of my life for only 20 I don't regret. Thank God I'll easily sell my copy and go on a real good remake like RE4 or a decent game like ghost of tsushima
@InfiniteNinja428 are you a bit challenged? I didn't like my own comment, stop projecting your weird habits Also I watched that video after finishing the game so you made no sense twice in less than twenty words congrats
This game sucks compared to the original. The fanboyism is unreal. The only thing that is good about this game is the graphics. The story changes are all trash. The combat sucks and is messy af. So many stupid mini games. Literally every 5 steps you have to do a stupid mini games, like there are enough mini games to make a separate game on its own like Mario party.

This is how AAA games are today. Everything is put into the visuals and the music/voices, while actual gameplay and story is an afterthought - every time!
@@ken5040 "Rebirth was a masterpiece" is crazy. As an OG FF7 player from 97 I get why they wanna mess with everyone and complicate stuff to make us talk for a couple of years about "theories" and buy the next game but not a big fan of this. too complicated that 90% of people don't get what is going on. I never had that around ff7 as a kid. A game isn't well written or "deep" just because people are clueless and can only speculate what is going on all the time.
You can thank Attack on Titan for this trend. That show ruined modern media because people believe that having a bunch of plot holes makes your story deep.
@@Drogas3653Did you actually watch the Series? Any major plot point has an explanation. Even where Titans came from and why they eat people has an explanation. Even the first Titan Shifter was shown and explained throughout the Series. Also the very beginning of it all. The Story is not only well written, but also has many important messages. It's about the cruelties of war, freedom, sacrifice, humanity, racism, fear, dealing with loss and so on. Everything in that show, happens because of a cycle of hatred. And it shows that the only way to break such cycles, is to truly understand the other side instead of hanging on to prejudices. That's why it's so deep. If anything it's a reflection of our own world. You have to actually think about the story to understand it and that's not a bad thing. There are many clues throughout the series about what's going on. I had no issues understanding it at all just like many others who liked the show. There couldn't be so many Videos explaining the story bit for bit if it has so many plotholes. And to come back to ff7 rebirth, nobody has to like the story at all. It's all down to personal preferences. But calling it a bad story, just because it's complicated is just not correct.
When I saw the bit with the swamp snake I was hopeful they'd tried to be creative. I thought for a brief moment they were going to Fight Club it and the Sephiroth they thought they were following didn't exist at all, it just turned out to be Cloud. I've had lots of other thoughts about various subversions they could have done, even a Sephiroth redemption tale, but it seems like they want to retell the same story with added nonsense. The worst of both worlds.

Dude I had to force myself to finish it, and the way they handled the ending just pissed me off. I dont think I even care where it goes next. Kinda just wish they simply remade the original game. @martincoborn I stopped at the exact same point, lol. Picked it back up last week after quitting for a few months. It hasn't been much better. The glazing of this game by ff7 die hards is astounding
Interestingly enough, I had the exact same complaint about the boss fights. They feel like a chore, not like something cool. I thought the boss fights in FF16 were amazing. I actually couldn't wait to fight another boss because they kept upping the ante on spectacle and greatness. In FF7R, I dread boss fights because it's generally the same steps for me; 1. start fight, figure out what weakness 2. restart fight, now with proper materia/elemental 3. grind toward stagger 4. actually do damage and beat boss I can't stand boss fights that are almost immune to everything except for a specific tactic or element. No, I shouldn't have to master a game just to make boss fights faster and more tolerable. Until you stagger an enemy, it feels like you're beating a concrete wall with your bare hands and the game turns into a puzzle where you figure out the fastest way to stagger. Staggering should've been a bonus, not a requirement.
Man I saw the good reviews and bought it...10 hours in I was like this is the most repetitive open world I have ever played...The game is at most a 6.5/10..The reviewers were playing another game it seems
Yes. Thank you. Lets not forget the most basic story telling rule. If you want to make an imposing, scary, and ominous villain, dont let your main character beat him at the end of every game. The original game, Advent Children, Crisis Core, FF7 Remake, FF7 Rebirth, and we all know the 3rd installment as well. Every single piece of media Sephiroth has been in, he has lost to the main character (Cloud/Zack). He has turned into a joke thabks to incompetent writing and game design.

I think all Square forgot the one main thing that draw many people wanting for FF7 remake. It was the story. I don't mind adding on "new details" for the story but alter the backbone of the story will be a recipe for chaos.
@CDHunter345 Or you're a whining idiot who doesn't like being told that when something had been said to be a remake not a redo the point is to remake the original as close as possible. Not to make a new game and call it FFVII.

To the "It's a Remake not a Remaster" crowd, look. If you like these games, that's totally fine, honestly I wish I did too. But just because it wasn't envisioned as a faithful remaster of the original does not mean that's inherently a good choice. Even if we agree it was a better move to reboot it as a new story or sequel, that still doesn't mean this execution of that vision was done well. Just found about that scene where Tifa and Aerith SPOIL the big twist of Clouds past to each other! Instead of slowly building it up with hints, subtle character behavior and ultimately Tifas ambivilence with Sephiroths illusion and preceeding moment where Cloud almost kills Aerith. BOO square! BOO!

I hate how they did Dyne. Absolutely hate it. The emotional heaviness in the OG truly captured the different paths, and helped out more of hiw much pain Barret has to endure and find a way to move on, showing his true strength of how he continually moves forward for the sake of his daughter that isn't his real daughter.
Yeah but Cloud isn't alone, there is a group following. You want the director of the game to put a 50 feet jump button to walk around? Don't type anything if you are clearly not at the right place here, why don't you go back comiting crimes or watching some basket ball?
This is literally like that in OG. Gameplay and lore never correlates otherwise you'd have to question turn based, tactical battle systems, healing items and immunity to death equip in lore.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one disappointed by this game. Everyone in my circle who has played it refuses to hear any criticism, one friend shutting me down saying it was the best game he's ever played which is outrageous even if you liked it. I liked remake, I thought the way the story was written opened up so many options and gave potential for the feeling of playing ff7 for the first time again, but they dropped the ball so hard in this. Schrodinger's Aeris is the biggest problem for me, they couldn't just commit, and then they had to go and Nomura everything with convoluted multiverse nonsense. It's a lazy cop out and solidifies this game being like a 7/10 at best. Thanks for the video, I hope your gaming has been more rewarding since this.
This game for me was fun at times. I like the combat. I like the character design, some mini games were fun, and the game had some good humor. When they recreated some of the original story beats, it was cool. I personally just shake my head how anyone in charge that actually cared about this games legacy could ever approve such a mess when it comes to the story. It's honestly embarrassing. Just why? WHY?
I hate what they are doing with an epic tale about triumphing over pain, suffering and loss, figuring out that you aren’t who you thought you were while developing the strength to save the rest of the world from multiple existential crises. It was perfect before they messed with it.
They jumped the shark with the ending of Remake and should've followed through creating an original story in the same setting. Instead they still follow the same progression as the original and undermining it simultaneously with their multiverse additions.
"Marvel did a multiverse, maybe we should too." Yeah and Marvel now sucks, and oh look, so does the new FF7. Bought the first two, just gonna watch a playthrough of part 3.
They didn't stick with the original ending for this section though. Instead, it was a schizophrenic Avengers style multiverse battle so tone-deaf that it made the audience not even care that Aerith just died. It's like taking a serious drama moment in a film and flash-cutting to a John Wick style action shootout after the big emotion climax of the movie, and feels like the amateur hour writing mistake a high school student would make in creative writing class.
"should've followed through creating an original story in the same setting" - except they've made the story much better. There's ton's of things in the OG that made absolutely no sense.
@@DLFL1987 Yes, you are absolutely right on that. Keep in mind, making a multiverse is not a bad thing in any way but if you are trying to make something like that, you better know what the hell you are doing, or you will mess up things very badly. They are trying hard to create a large universe with no regards to universe building. I have seen high schoolers write better stories.
Wow, foreal?! Why would they do that? I played Remake and hated it and knew they were gonna fuck up Rebirth and subequent releases... They can't write a good story to save their lives.
Agreed. I would also say they’re over using sephiroth to the point that all of the mystique around him it’s gone. Take the midgardsormr fight for instance. In the original, you had no hope of beating it, so seeing the aftermath of sephiroth skewering one showed the insane power difference. Now we get sephiroth appearing out of nowhere to… save cloud for reasons? The whole scene was very much the type of crap you’d expect from KHs not FF7.
@@shibby0690 Yeah, that scene was utter ASS lol. It's like anything you give square enix they are going to FUMBLE it. They can't be trusted with delivering a good story anymore... even one that's already finished and when they only have to remake it with a few touch ups. It's almost like they forgot the reason behind us avoiding the Midgar Zolom. It was supposed to set up the character of Sephiroth and add to the fear of his strenght. But that scene where he saves cloud was just a disgrace. And when I seen Sephiroth toss the snake up, I said to myself "WATCH it get impaled on the tree"... Square Enix is really tone def and out of touch... I bet they thought "Hey, here's the snake on the tree scene from the original... NOSTALGIA RIGHT EH EH?" *facepalm. Totally missing the fact they already ruined the reason to even want to see that again.
Yeah, sephiroth is over used to the point of me being annoyed every time he shows up. And that's not how you're supposed to feel when it comes to sephiroth. He's supposed to be a highlight of the story.
if sephiroth wins in the timeline zack is alive why dont he just live in that time, that's his goal right? he like a kh or james bond villain now just turns up to spew plot n call cloud a nerd
Yeah this is also what I don't get. As far as I understood, Sephiroth's original goal was to start the planet over with Meteor, because he felt that his mother was wronged and that he was part of the original tribe living on the planet. Now it just seems like he wants to control the multiverse, but why? What are his motivations to do that? Now he just seems like he wants to be as evil as possible for no reason.
there are multiple vidoes online that can explain the ending far better than me and sephiroth was always the most evil since the mount nibel incident @@CaptainTitforce .
@@iamab0t No he wasn't, he was a mentally damaged person who had clear motivations, although twisted by his demented mind. Here he is just evil and wants to conquer everything for some reason.
You're entitled to your own opinion, but I think this game is a solid 9.5/10. The combat is amazing, engaging story, fleshed out characters and a wonderful soundtrack to boot. My main complaint is the multiverse thingy they are going with. I usually love myself some alternate universes (Marvel & DC fan) but I don't think it really suits the narrative of the game.

Great review, totally agree, bit of a chore of a game by Chapter 10/11 I wanted it to end and I got the whole Cait Sith section. I really like the combat though and wouldn’t have played it if it was turned based but I agree on the battles. They just felt like they went on forever at times and don’t get me started on the end boss battle. On your character being stunned that’s really annoying, about as annoying as the one hit kill stuff. The open world was a disaster to me, they learned nothing from Ubisoft games 😴. Even the main missions have filler content on top of the filler side quests and filler open world objectives 😡
Enjoyed Remake a lot but Rebirth, whilst initially i loved it, i gave up at Chapter 9 because i just wasn't enjoying it. There's no story at all, no narrative structure - they go to a place, mess about as if they're on holiday, then leave for the next place with nothing meaningful happening in that location at all. And it's like that for every location. There's literally no story. It's just filler.
I think Rebirth has a huge problem with the characters not communicating things that happen to them and I pick up on it to. I think in Chapter 14 Tifa straight up tells Cloud: Hey tell me if you start feeling strange like thinking I'm not the real me and I'm like okay...why now. But she straight up says: "You don't have to apologize. Just talk to me - or any one for that matter" and I feel like this would have solved half the problems in the game instead of the weird fever dream ending. Nomura really needs to stop the whole mystery avante guard story telling. I don't like it in KH and I don't like anywhere else. Same with using time and different dimensions as a plot device. There are official 5 series Nomura has touched and all of them deal with team and traveling to different worlds/dimensions. KH in its entirety was doomed from the start but if you look at the worlds more as just planets you can visit then that's fine until the last 2 games where they straight up introduce time travel and then multiverse in the form of the power of waking. Sora is now in a different universe from his own and KH4 is gonna run with the bullshit. FF15 couldn't even diverge from it. Yes Nomura had his hands in it. And time travel comes at the damn 11th hour. And now FF7 has it but now with a plot device conceived to make fun of original fans of the game who want the same game just with a new coat of paint. Yes they are the problem. And that plot device is in form of Karen Canon Ghosts who want things to play out as they did before instaed of you know just writing the game the same as the original.
This just makes the ending worse. Considering, that only Cloud can see and talk witn Aerith... Only he can see the crack in the sky. And... Now that he posesses the Black Materia... I feel like they ran out of ideas. 😞
I think the problem is there's too many ideas with no actual desire to execute them either. I'm willing to bet like KH Part 3 will have no satisifying answer or invoke a conclusion that will make no sense and attempt to make everyone happy. Like there's gonna be multiple Aerith running around. A universe where Sephiroth is still the hero or some BS and any number of things because Nomura cannot think of a normal plot that doesn't involve time or the multiverse even though the end product suffers from it. It ruined KH. It ruined FF15 (among its countless other problems) and not its destroying a game who's original concept, premise, and execution had nothing to do with muh multiverse
Good multiverse stories requires hard effort and good execution. At least they tried it with Zack's timeline, but I care less about it, because that timeline is disaster incarnated. Cloud suffers from Mako Poisoning, Tifa was found in bad shape, Red XIII and Aerith crashed with the helicopter and Barret... Where is he now? I'm sorry... I got a bit carried away. 😞
Nomura isn't the writer of the remake trilogy and had no involvement in FF15. FF15 didn't even have a time travel plot. What are you are talking about?
So, I was in love with this game up until the very end. I did all the side content as soon as it was available. I didn't mind the weird narrative changes, such as Tifa falling in Mako, because I wanted to trust the writers to tell a complete story by the end, much like FF7 (there are a lot of moments that make no sense until the end of the original,) but then we got to the last two chapters and I am completely dis-infatuated with it. Fighting the original game's final bosses at the end of Rebirth feels hollow. Seeing Aerith not get stabbed but, "uh-oh, actually Sephiroth hit the lag switch and she died anyway," made such a heavy moment fall completely flat (probably flatter than any other moment, honestly.) The moments you play as Zack could have easily not existed because they don't add anything to the story other than, "there's a THIRD timeline, too!" I was so hype going into the final part of the game, despite how exhausted I was after doing Gilgamesh's bullshit, but then the story just completely unravels and I'm not even interested in what happens anymore. Why are we still chasing Sephiroth after like 18 fights with him in the final hours of the game?
Pretty much this, I'm done with this trilogy and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Just play the PC version or PS4 remaster of the original and you're better off
Absolutely this. It's just the same old boring tropes that aim to waste your time. FF16 wasn't perfect, but that games focus on story made it a much more enjoyable experience if you were actually interested in the story. FF7R tries to do everything, and ends up failing at most of it.
This dude is SPOT ON!!! This whole game felt like a chore. Every few moments felt like the developers were punishing the players. Oh you want to see how this moment of the story unfolds??? Nope! 24:44 That is exactly what I kept thinking as I was playing through Rebirth and is exactly what I feared when I got to the ending of Remake. Power to the fans who loved it, but I definitely wasn't the target for this game. To me, this game is Final Fanfiction VII in the Multiverse of Madness: The Search for Spaceballs 2.
So glad I've found someone who agrees with me. I've slogged it out to chapter 10 and I'm done. Bored out of my mind. The crap activities have taken so much away from the pacing of the story
I stopped video at this point. It is so weird to hear that kind of opinion from someone who plays lot of games. He just does not understand the combat, so enemies take too much time to kill. To be fair, there are many people who have that opinion and every time I see their gameplay, they are just spamming random skills without thinking at all. Maybe combat tutorials should be better or something. I love remake and Rebirth combat because if you know what you are doing, you feel really op. Speedruns of remake are crazy. And Rebirth will go next level.
The fighting in my opinion is the games selling point I like challenges and will give a thumbs up as let's be honest og ff games great but far to easy. Rebirth made players think more and learn patterns and weakness of enermy, found the combat amazing. My biggest hate to it though isn't mini games but instead to many of them. And chadley in honest I found to be a boring character even when I seen him in remake. But ye 10 mins a battle would tell me the person is new to the combat system.
I really enjoyed the game, (waaay more thant the 90% filler part 1) but they doesnt seems to know when to stop like its cute to play as caith, or do minigames on costa del sol for 10 minutes, but they force you to do for soooo long, even the final battle started cool and just keep going on and on and on
Original: Clouds sees Sephiroth killing villagers. Sephiroth turns around and looks at Cloud, epic key shot that we know and love. Remake: Clouds sees Sephiroth killing villagers. Sephiroth turns around and looks at Cloud, walks towards him and passes him. Then walks some more, then turns around again and looks at Cloud in an epic key shot. Pretty much sums up the Remake trilogy for me. Unnecessary changes.
@Sick_Pencil I was just going to say that. Like you have freaking long-range weapons, and nobody even attempted to take a shot at him. Laughably bad direction.
@@iamab0t I know, that’s what I’m saying. Its useless. You gotta do everything in game to get it. Then when you play it nothing happens. When you master it, nothing happens. At that point it’s either waste hours trying perfect something that has no meaning to the game or just RUclips it and listen to that way. Bad design that is. The music sheet still stands for me imo as one of the worst end game unlocks of any game. Could least have a reward for s ranking the hardest content in the game also for using a mini game were stick drift will ruin anyones chances at mastering it. So if you got stick drift. Better go buy a whole new controller just master the music sheet.
@@_thesmilingdemon_5962 my mistake, i wrote actors but i meant characters. For example Jessie scene dragged so long, that it looses it's goal. A lot of moments were ruined for me because of that. Sephiroth is not menacing person like from og, it is smiling person, who wants bang Cloud, i guess.

You don't feel heroic completing a minigame. You're just relieved that the chore is over.
Fans can cope and seethe but rebirth had worse sales than part on AND FF16

And not only that, the plot is just SHIT. Even without the filler.
I swear when sephiroth drops the black materia and tells Cloud to fetch it,
Or when Barrett throws away the Black materia, I just wanted to take the PS5 and throw it away.
I just finished Rebirth, and I feel insane. Masterpiece? What?! Not even close.

It’s crazy how defensive FF7 Remake/Rebirth fans are, they can’t accept that the games have flaws
The games don't just have flaws. They're a hate-letter to original Final Fantasy fans by a dude who's so butthurt about the original creator's success that he's willing to destroy the past to leave his mark. Just look at the Nomura interviews. It's scorched earth.

@@agamersinsanity
This guy has not played the original clearly.
(Sephiroth was infused with Jenova cells in the womb)
It is not a sequel.

Interestingly enough, I had the exact same complaint about the boss fights. They feel like a chore, not like something cool.
I thought the boss fights in FF16 were amazing. I actually couldn't wait to fight another boss because they kept upping the ante on spectacle and greatness. In FF7R, I dread boss fights because it's generally the same steps for me;
1. start fight, figure out what weakness
2. restart fight, now with proper materia/elemental
3. grind toward stagger
4. actually do damage and beat boss
I can't stand boss fights that are almost immune to everything except for a specific tactic or element.
I think the boss fights overall were disappointing compared to Remake

But just because it wasn't envisioned as a faithful remaster of the original does not mean that's inherently a good choice. Even if we agree it was a better move to reboot it as a new story or sequel, that still doesn't mean this execution of that vision was done well.

@MetaphorLi91 sir what are you talking about
This game for me was fun at times.

CrossedTrophy007 how am I part of the problem? 😂
@@electricion712 You're right. It involves a time skip and psuedo time travel mechanics going to the past with Umbra.

@CDHunter345 I mean it's true tho
