Being invited to the White House isn't all it's cracked up to be. My parents both knew the Kennedy's. My Dad's grandmother was friends with Rose and my Mom's parents knew Jack and Bobby. So my parents got an invitation to a reception held summer of 1962. It was an informal reception for a couple of hundred families from Massachusetts, mostly people with some sort of social or political connection so kids were invited. Jack was in a chair (like Roosevelt was usually in a chair) the whole time and I was two and half years old and still in diapers. Families were taking turns posing with the president for the approximately hour he took out of his busy schedule. When it was our turn Dad picked me up and set me in the president's lap. Jack always smoked cigars and as a toddler I was hyper sensitive to tobacco smoke. Of course I have no memory but Dad (not really a Kennedy fan) said I wet myself like a scared toad picked up by a kid. It seems I had an oversize and overfilled bladder and I flooded Mr. President's lap with urine. NEVER buy the cheap rubber pants (pre Pampers days). So I may be the only person ever to urinate on a sitting president, literally. We never got the pictures though. It's OK, I have a photo my great grandmother took of Rose sitting in my great grandmother's rocking chair taken on Cape Cod in April 1917 with a really big belly. She was a frequent visitor at my great grandmother's home in Hyannis. My great grandmother was the most prolific midwife in Barnstable County history and an avid photographer. So my mom was forever upset that I had ruined a family portrait with her favorite president and my Dad loved to tell everyone how I pissed on his least favorite president. Seems when my Dad was a little boy growing up in Hyannis the Kennedy boys were bullies and would bully all the kids on the street there including my Dad and his older brothers. They would monopolize the street for their football games though years later they limited it to the compound under Secret Service directive. Dad told me how Joe would throw rocks at the neighborhood kids because they weren't as good as the Kennedy's were. Then Joe died in the war and it got worse. Anyways, that's about my only claim to fame, I pissed on a sitting president.
