- Mexican pianist Claudia Corona plays Clara Wieck Schumann Piano Concerto in A-minor, Op. 7 with Xalapa Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Lanfranco Marcelletti. This was the first live-performance of the concerto in Xalapa (Mexico) last November 08, 2019, on Clara's 200 Birth Anniversary Year. Clara began to compose this piece at the early age of 14 and completed it when she was 16, playing its world premiere on November 09, 1834.

It is absolutely mind blowing how a fourteen to sixteen year old girl would be able to compose a concerto of such richness and deep emotion. I keep being swept away by her genius. She was a huge sensation in her day but almost two centuries later her work is mostly forgotten or being rediscovered. Listen to her complete piano works interpreted by Jozef de Beenhouwer and her gorgeous piano trio. This woman was something else. No wonder the much younger Johannes Brahms was deeply in love with her. Chopin heard her play and was ecstatic, she influenced so many great musicians, not in the least her famous husband Robert Schumann. Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time to hear her play this concerto?

Tantas gracias, Doña Claudia, por esta maravillosa, sensible interpretación de un concierto tan exquisito, en verdad mágico. Me recuerda a lo que dijo Chopin con respecto a Clara cuando la oyó tocar las obras de él en París: que tocaba “como una bruja” (mejor dicho, una curandera). Ojalá que hubiese siete u ocho conciertos de Clara... pero de todos modos, Ud. toca esta obra con manos y corazón de ángel.

Clara Wieck-Schumann was totally underestimated throughout her life. Melodically, she far surpasses her husband Robert Schumann. She breaks new ground in her time and has therefore written music history, like Bach, Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart. Unfortunately, her genius was not discovered and appreciated until 200 years after her death. Only F. Chopin continued melody in classical music. Claudia Corona interprets her Piano Concerto in A minor very sensitively and with virtuosity.
