Sewing is a survival skill. I sewed as a cub scout, as a surfer using dental floss to fix my wetsuits and sewed my Army patches on my uniform. Great job!
I bought a heated seat pad for my car. I was planning on doing something like this , but it is for the bottom of the seat without the back part. I think I can just put the pad inside my jacket and plug it in when needed or use it as a seat pad. Just stuff it in my side case when not needed. Plus it will block the wind.
This is an absolutely brilliant idea Andy. Admittedly, it doesn't get cold enough here in (Sydney) Australia for us to need a heated vest, but still enjoyed watching the video none the less :)
Thank you chaps. I'm 'looking forward' to some real cold weather testing. We seem to be having a decidedly Sydneyesque winter here in europe at the moment! Also waiting for a new potential controller to eliminate the blinker relay. Thanks for watching though, despite your total lack of need for the content! :D

Hey Andy , I love your channel almost as love your character, keep it up. I will be starting riding this year and i am seriously thinking about getting Versys in ORANGE just because of your videos. Be careful not to set yourself on fire with that batman vest !
Thanks very much Aleksandar! The Versys is a fine machine and probably a great first bike as i think it'll keep you interested as you gain experience! Keep watching to see if i toast myself with the portable oven! ;D
Fantastic idea! I've got a couple of cartool sockets free on my bike, might start project 'tyre warmers' this winter! As always, big thumbs up to your videos! Keep up the good work and let us know when you're around the alpine area, there's plenty of room at the inn ;)
Thanks! I plan to swing by the alpine region as soon as circumstances allow! Looking forward to hearing how operation tyre warmers pans out. Maybe a multifunctional tyre warmer/heated seat arrangement!?

No problem! It was so hot at first that I had to put in an indicator relay to make it turn on and off quickly to keep the temperature down so that it wouldn’t burn me!!
I loved this video so much I went and bought a car seat cover! 😂 It's exactly the same as yours 12v just with a usb instead. Would I be able to connect it to a power bank? Do you have any suggestions on what I could buy that would fit in my pocket that could power this up? Thanks!
Haha! Brilliant! Happy to help. I don’t see why you couldn’t power it from a powerbank. Might depend on how much output the powerbank has to meet the ampage required by the covers.
@@AndyManCam it works!!! Thank you so much for making this video, you've saved me from catching a cold, I wear it walking to work everyday now and it's saved me £££'s and from getting frost brite !!! I wish you nothing but happiness ❤️❤️❤️
The heat would have melted the glue on the tape. If not on yours, then mine was hotter! Plus sewing it together is the more complete, longer lasting and less lazy way to do the job!
You could have just kept the seat as it was and shoved it down your back. Then there's no sowing and sharp knives, also if the item fails you can still take it back to Lidl. Also, the seat pad will act as a back protector... ;)
Not a bad shout! I like the heated back protector idea too! Might look a bit like a fancy dress super hero costume while off the bike with so much captain America padding though! :D

Hey, love the videos! if i could pick your brains for minute; i have a 98 fazer with the full front fairing and i saw on one of your videos that you had a similar model. i am thinking of stripping the fairing and installing a large lamp in the style of the old Bandits. do you have any advice on this? i'm expecting problems around the situating of the odometer unit in relation to the new lamp. PLEASE HELP! lol
+saeed Ali Hey thanks! I've not got a great deal to offer I'm afraid. You'll be able to get lamp mounts that will bolt on to your forks easy enough, but you'll run in to trouble with your clocks. You'll also have a bunch of extra wiring to deal with as you'll be bypassing the whole section of loom that goes around the headlight mounts and to the back of the clocks. I know folks on the fazer forum (www.foc-u.co.uk) have had mixed success with either making sheet metal brackets that bolt on to the top yoke, or at the extreme other end, doing away with the original clocks altogether and getting an aftermarket dash by somebody like 'Koso'. Might be worth having a dig there to see what works and what will fit your budget. It was because of all of the hassles that I only went for a semi-naked 'conversion' with my Fazer by just trimming a spare fairing down to make a mini-fairing. Which also meant I could return the bike to standard when selling time came around! Looks like you're planning to be a little more drastic in your modifications!! Good luck and thanks for watching, hope you'll keep tuning in, even though the Fazer is now gone!! :D
Great job. But there is an issue which should be taken into consideration which is diffuclt to wash/clean this vest with sewed up electrical heating pads (maybe instead of sewing up better would be to use some velcro).
Not bad. Could useone of these in our work vehicles. Back was definitely better. Japanese construction workers used to wear belts around the back to keep the kidneys warm and hence the whole body.
Even better! I was scouring ebay for heat pads for this project. Then went to Lidl for milk and found the heated seat i used. It was meant to be! Wish I'd found one with dual temp settings though, lucky sod!
I love Those DIY videos. It's hardly About saving money, It's about about creativity, and having fun in your life, and being able to Surprise yourself.
This will most likely die here in the comments sections but I'm a fan and maybe you'd share some wisdom for a yank. I'm looking to ditch my '02 Honda Shadow 750 for something along the lines of a Versys 650. Locally there is an '09 with 14k miles for a bit out of my budget but there is also a 2000 BMW R1100R within the budget. Would you be able to weigh in on a comparison? My style of rising/needs are similar to yours with the Kawasaki. Much appreciated.
Hey Grant. I'm certainly no expert here as I've never actually ridden any model of BMW to compare but i would think that you've got two very different options there. The BMW is definitely going to give you a fair bit more torque and i imagine a smoother low end. Also the shaft drive is a going to take away ALL the chain woes and give you a more direct drive characteristic. However be careful of an older model as if that shaft drive is worn or about to fail, you'll probably spend as much as the bike is worth to fix it! All that said, I can assure you that the versys is going to be a lot more flickable, more snappy, lighter and generally more fun to ride than the BMW. Of course that statement is dependent on your style of riding. If comfort and relaxed mile munching are your thing, then the R1100R is going to be a fine steed. But if you want to scratch in the twisties a bit, then the BMW will probably feel heavy and slow compared to the more agile Versys. Another thing to consider is that i would assume that the BMW has more bells and whistles and creature comforts for the money. But they'll be older! It's all swings and roundabouts! Best thing i could really suggest is to swing your leg over both if possible. For what I need the Versys is great, but I'll be honest I've always fancied a go on an R1100R / R800R! ;)
+Andy Man Cam the BMW is certainly a risk but it apparently has "a thorough service record" from the dealer. Comes with panniers, heated grips, ABS,only 22k odo. BUT after watching a majority of your Versys riding vlogs I am leaning toward the Versys for many of the reasons you point out. It's base stock but has the ABS with only about 14k odo. That and it's kawa green, which is fantastic. Appreciate the input and will let you know!
