- AXPONA is done for 2024, and it was a great one. Thanks to Mark Freed, and Casey for running such a smooth operation. And thanks to Anthony from Box Furniture Co, Micha from EMT, Norbert from MoFi Distribution, Stephen from AudioQuest and many more for making this one so easy and successful!

Dude, thank you. Too few people face the camera and talk of love. I am 72 and finally finding stability. Music means much morr than it ever did. My regular walk to the nearest town is by the seaside a rocky coastline. Constantly changing. Music rnning round my my mind all the time.
God Bless you and your love for Brooklyn .I get overwhelmed when I visit . It's like visiting an old relative home that kids have moved in and took over their home .
One of the reasons why I subscribe to your channel is you are old school NYC .
Remember meeting you years back in a Sydney hifi show. You always bring interesting music and concepts to a show. I like your warnings of static and surface noise. There is a warmth and jump factor great analog brings that digital no matter how good it is fails to bring. Digital has its advantages obviously being relatively cheap instant access in many cases but the ritual and movement of tape or records is hard to go past. Your walking commentary is very interesting John.
78s! Just wonderful, watched Ken Micallef's video, your setup looked First Class Classic.
John, I visited your room (maybe twice). I'll admit, I didn't stay too long but that's primarily due to the fact that I am not spinning vinyl and was just highly unfamiliar with the music..probably shows my age. That said, I am still fascinated by the speakers you brought to the show and your speakers in general look amazing. This was my first ever show, and planning on coming next year. So hopefully I can stop by again.
Missed the 78s 😢, but loved the rooms and of course the speakers and amps.
John, I gotta put Axpona on my bucket list. I lived in Brooklyn Heights in a brownstone the 70’s and always enjoyed the walks.
Walking 6 miles / day to and from work is super healthy for you. Kudos!!!
It was a great show. John played 78s on an EMT turntable. Everyone drooled and enjoyed the time travel.
Thank you for your thoughts on walkable cities. Moving to one 15 years ago (while not NYC- but still good) changed my life. Sold my car and feel much healthier for it. I enjoy your videos and love your focus on music, not just the tech of audio.
Awesome that you had such a great and successful show. We're proud to have been a part of it. Thank YOU.
Bitchin. This Mess We're In. Thanks for the share and glad your show was all it was hoped to be. Cheers John.
Nice ramble John, a lot of love in there. Love PJ and Thom. Living in Sri Lanka just listening to a tropical storm at night.generally no lights here and no paths, so can get a bit hairy. I was in Brooklyn late last year for work and was going to try and check your business out but got stage fright and out of my budget..maybe. I walked around Brooklyn and checked out some record stores. Walked quite a way to one as it was getting dark. Saw this girl running towards dusk one way and then this raccoon headed the other way at speed down the middle of the road. Got to the record store and it was all second hand but too chaotic for me to hunt. Back home in Australia in a year and will be setting up again. Melbourne is where I grew up and the home of such great bands and great coffee, but I now live in Adelaide. Also on the rise. Yell out if you get there. Go easy and thanks for the music and humility. 😊
First-rate recounting. Thank you. And to end with PJ's "This Mess We're In"--inspired.
A highly enjoyable and heartfelt ramble John. As a Londoner and proud new owner of 0’96s I would love to pop in to you in Brooklyn with a coffee for you in hand to say hello, thank you and shake your hand.
This was my first ever audio show attendance and it was very cool to be able to say hi and get to hear your speakers finally! Your room was a top 3 favorite for sure!
That room was one of our best in show. WOWZA!!! Great job on not only the speakers, but curated gear, and room set up. 🎉
Ahahaha I’m also from Brooklyn (Williamsburg) and tried to walk in the AXPONA vicinity last year. Culture shock for sure! Yes did the grass bunkers and climbing over embankments lol. Welcome to most of strip mall America.
I live in the boondocks of PA Bucks County and sidewalks in my area are few and far between, and walking to a store or restaurant is a marathon experience. To each his/her own.
I wasn't able to catch a 78 demo but I really enjoyed your rooms. I was particularly impressed by the Komuro 300B's "grip" and low-end dynamics without sacrificing the beautiful, "lit from within" (ala Herb Reichert) SET mids and 'just right' treble. Exceptional product.
Your room with your bigger speakers was very nice!
Hello John it was an Awesome room and awesome experience I really dig the set and love the speakers they was playing a Curtis Mayfield track it had so much fidelity the 0/96 is definitely on my list to get .
John, when you come to Australia you will find many “desire paths” in Melbourne , my home city. You might even fall in love with Melbourne….it’s your kinda place.
Phew, that song takes me way back!
John the welcome mat is out for your trip to Australia. Would be awesome to do a Demo day in Sydney. Please
Please Please !!! Sydney is pedestrian friendly no worries!
I took our 15-year-old on their first visit to Manhatten last week. They've never lived anywhere where you can just walk to everything. First suburban Florida and now we live in the mountains. I think they fell in love with the place! We got to go to the OJAS listening room and talked with Devon Turnbull. Popped our heads in Park Ave Audio and visited multiple record shops. Thanks to a family friend we got a private tour of Sony Studios and the mixing rooms. I don't believe DeVORE Fidelity has a showroom or we would have made the trip to Brooklyn. Ironically I just bought a Grado cartridge from SkyFi Audio right over the bridge in NJ and I could have just picked it up rather than have them ship it. Oops. But boy NYC didn't disappoint!
It's easy to wax poetic about John's Brooklyn. I miss it.
glad that the big ole ramble made the final cut
Ha! Thanks.
I missed your room. I blame my wife and the elevators. I was really hoping to listen.
Great video thanks, I feel the same way about my beloved city of Liverpool UK, always so nice to return home, what was the Tom York song you played at the end please? Many thanks
"This Mess We're In" duet with PJ Harvey
Can you please list some more f the albums that you brought to the show?
Puny Human ….u haven’t been to Australia….i laugh at you ;)
welcome to suburban sprawl. your monologues are always welcome.
Congratulations, John. Is there an upgrade path from O96's to Bronze's? Or perhaps the better question would that be a logical thing to do? Thank you in advance.
thank god Jane Jacobs was able to keep the freeways out of Manhattan back in the early 60's
I live in a large urban centre that is very people friendly... I walk 10 + kms daily
cars shouldn't be the deciding factor for everything in urban areas
cities should be more than anything - people friendly. !!! :)
Both rooms sounded very good! Loved the café setup. The stroads of Schaumburg aren't fancy but it has great schools and low crime for people who are into that
Very good qualities!
I was hoping this was going to include a love letter to ocd Mikey.
No doubt your Brooklyn home is great, … but I would love to work in Paris
Goodmorning sir. How can we contact you directly? Greetings from GREECE!
Hey John! Glad your exhibit was successful. I have a 78 rpm question, is it better to filter the noise or just let it play with the noise to get most out of the music?
The Mola Mola doesn't have a filter, my EMY does have an adjustable one. I generally don't use it, unless it's a very old 78 with no musical information about 6-7kHz.
Thanks for the response, John!
There are bowling alleys in Europe. The sport was invented in England 😊
John, what do you make of Verity calling time on their operations?
You're not in Munich?😔
Which pj Harvey was that ?
