Hey! It's meeee! I fell for the XTOOL marketing campaign. They've given away thousands of dollars worth of laser to content creators and I've certainly subsidized that. I've probably doubled my original purchase price getting this thing remotely useable for my needs. I needed ventilation, an enclosure, a honeycomb grid, I got the air assist, and the new rotary tool so I could do mugs with handles. It's definitely beyond hobbyist at this point. lol.
Newbie here who hasn't yet purchased a laser yet and appreciates all the info on here. I would point out though that as a newbie who is watching a video for newbies I would have liked a little more info on all the items you mentioned that I had no idea about such as Enclosure, Honeycomb, Air Assist. What they were, what they do etc. Even a simple "What this does is........" or a pointer to another vid where you may have already covered such issues. Apart from that I thank you for what you have put out here and will be diving in to other videos you have produced to get as well informed as I can before I leap into the world of laser stuff. Cheers.
Very cool list. Newbie here I have some of the ideas. Will be picking up some others. Thanks for gathering this info in one spot and sharing the links. Next list: Items needed to work on canvas, glass, Medal, wood, plastic, Acrylic and the power needed.
If you are going to use an enclosure you will need some sort of exhaust system and a blower to suck out the fumes. You also need a window kit or a filter box to get rid of the fumes.
Cheaper honeycomb beds, the same size as xTool (look identical apart from the brand name) can be found on Amazon for less than half the price of the official xTool one. Then you will need magnets and/or pins. I purchased 9mm trim retainer fasteners on Amazon, (30 pack for similar price to an 8 pack of honeycomb pins). 3D printed clips are also available online.
Just started researching this stuff 3 days ago, because I a got served an ad :p. Really interested. Been hitting up your channel a lot, and so far, your content has been very useful. Thx.
You forgot to add a rotary to your list. There are a bunch of options out there and someone is going to buy the wrong one (or in my case, twice) before they know what's the best one to get.
I wish these machines came with the things you need. Personally honey comb and air assist is a need not an option. Maybe just a personal gripe lol picking up my xtool 2w this month before I go all out on a co2 and these videos have been fundamental thank you.
Love your content! I follow you here and your discord channel. I would love to see a video on products you use. You have a couple videos that touch on it but s ingle video with all would be a good reference, Thanks again
I do the camera thing with my M1 if I need to step away for a minute or two. I watch the live stream the whole time. When I mentioned that in the FB group, the pitch forks came out.
Hi, first let me thank you for your videos. I don’t have a laser but you have been awesome and I’ve learned a ton. I am trying to make a ‘buy’ decision for my first laser and am leaning towards the xTools d1. If I’ve never owned a laser is that the right one? Is the d1 pro worth it? Is there a different brand? Model? I am wanting to engrave wood but am sure I will grow out of that. Not looking to start a business, just a hobbyist. Thanks so much!
@@BuildDadBuild thanks! I am considering the 10w d1, there are some nice sales and feel like that that would be a good place to start. Was curious if there were any compelling things to get the pro. If the d1 is still useful to you then it I’ll definitely be useful to me.
I am having troubling downloading the software. Customer service keeps emailing the same thing all I have is a very little basic that did download I believe I have but not the fancy version I see on videos. Is there one for Windows that I need to upgrade? I love your videos.
Hi great channel watch all the time. Had my xtool just over a month but over the last week or so my engravings have just got worse. It was engraving like a 3d image I tried everything but to no luck. So I looked at the x axis stepper motor bingo there it was a loose pulley and on a closer look it only had one grub screw in. I replaced the missing one and tightened both what a difference. I will be contacting XTOOL. Just thought I would pass this on Tony
Thank you for all your help understanding XTool. I am using the Creative software from XTool and was wondering if there is an easy way to create a custom cut shape? I am attempting to cut out a state and trying to trace using the vector tool is not working great for me. It may be to complicated for the XTool software and may need to be done in Lightburn. Any ideas?
Where to get 3mm plywood that’s 24”x24” I’ve been looking everywhere for something larger then 12”x whatever. I have a mandala pattern that’s 14” x 14” to cut
Do you know why xtool d1 in laserbox not able to check firmware status? When I click on connect the firmware screen goes away and the connect message top right of laserbox goes to not connect. I would appreciate any help, this only started this week.
Sir, I have seen where people are having problems with the XTool D1 10w lens having Halo and or cracking. Any thoughts? Have you had/seen these problems? Thank You!
In the video you state that with the FreeMascot glasses, when you look at the laser you see no beam from the laser. I purchased a set of these glasses and I see no difference with these on than when I wear the free ones that came with the xTool D1 Pro 20w. Did I misunderstand you or should I return these glasses or is there some other tidbits of information I need to learn?
@@BuildDadBuild I think I now know what to look (or not) look at. I opened the enclosure with the laser running, glasses on. I see the bright spot where the laser was contacting the wood. The acrylic at the end of the laser lights up, from the laser colliding with the wood. When I bent down and looked for the beam between the nozzle and the wood, I saw nothing. Have not done that with the naked eye. What I was assuming I should not see was the bright spot from the laser colliding with the wood. That would be a different wavelength than the laser itself. Duh on my part! 🙄
K-ching, k-ching, k=ching. Dude, I was toying with the idea of buying a laser for the winter months. Even if, in my opinion, they dont do a lot. BUT, all those other things I need just doubled the price. Looks like I'm gonna have to stick to my chisels and fire 🔥🤘

Hey Nick, Been watching for a while, really enjoying your content, probably the deciding factor for me buying the D1. Little upset that I bought it on the Father's Day sale and a week later they email me announcing the D1 Pro. Anyway, Is there any chance you could post / email me / upload to patreon a list of your settings for each material? I understand that I would still need to test myself but I am trying to reduce the amount of materials i burn through just in testing, plus the settings I have seen are all over the place as an example for slate coasters Xtool shows 75%power @ 50mm/s, my test file showed 80% and anywhere between 200 - 300 mm/s looked good, that was the highest speeds I ran, since then though I have seen videos of people going at speeds up to 2500, that's quite the range vs what I tested to what they are using, especially compared to what Xtool shows. In fact on their chart nothing goes above 90mm/s. As I said I understand I still need to do my own testing for my material / location but at least this would give me a better starting point to set my ranges from. I will use whatever is easiest for you, text file, xml, lightburn cut library, excel file whatever. Ken
