I watched this documentary the other day and it was great! I recommend this to everyone who is not feeble minded and addicted to reality tv shows................PEACE
@pack1 and research Sankore Madrasah this is an African university in Timbuktu Mali West Africa which was the center of the Mail Empire the school came to an end in the middle ages so you know this was an old university. This is an African proverb "Salt comes from the north, gold from the south, and silver from the country of the white men, but the word of God and the treasures of wisdom are only to be found in Timbuktu." look it up
Everything else aside, I'm pleased to see that the two subjects in this video (0:44 and 1:12) are actually capable of forming coherent sentences. If this were filmed today, it would include about 10 "yo"s, 4 "you know what i'm sayin"s, and at least 1 or 2 "keeping it real"s.
My grandmother went with an uncle and I to see this, and it greatly shook me, while my grandmother and uncle were like, "Yep, this is what it was like." This should be viewed by anyone interested in civil rights issues, or history PERIOD.
It is disapointing and heartbreaking to read most comments below. It shows how many ignorant people are still in this world. RACISM BE GONE. DONT HATE. LOVE. HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL!
Swedish TV had done a excellent job. I can imagine the Black expats in Stockholm watching this on TV. I would be watching TV myself if I lived in Sweden in the late 60's and early 70's. I saw the documentary on Public TV and loved it.
THis movie looks great. If teachers had any common sense, they would show this movie in every history class across the country. Students would love it, and at the same time learn something from it.
@ABSiblings What movie was it? Iv'e seen a couple of three musketeers movie's and a some of them have mixed looking people playing the role as the Three musketeers. And can i ask, do you know were to buy this film because i would love to see it, do you know where i can?
@pack1 They actually did write about it. I cant find the name of the Greek book is was written in right now but St. Clement of Alexandria, the Greek, stated that "if you were to write a book of 1,000 pages, you could not put down the names of all the Greeks who went to the Nile Valley in Ancient Egypt to be educated Aristotle wrote in Physiognomonica that "the Ethiopians and Egyptians are very black". Herodotus adds that the ancient Egyptians had "black skin and wooly hair".
A people's freedom is not measured by the rights that a fraction of this people enjoy; it is measured by the degree of equality of the rights and duties of ALL elements of the community, irrespective of creed, education, race, sex, or wealth. If African women cannot possibly conduct their struggle in isolation from the struggle our people wage, it'll be ineffective if women are not liberated as well ( A. Sekou Ture). Peace, love, and solidarity.
Cont: Another thing is that marxism was big back then with black revolutionaries because they equated it with liberating people from economic and political oppression. But as the years have shown since the 60's marxism hasn't faired too well with liberating people from economic and political oppression(Soviet Union collapse for example in the early 90's).
@TheRealZacme your sooooo right, its online everywhere in the comments, everyday when I read the news its there. Its how these ppl really feel but would never say in public or to your face
@hellokittycutie2003 Exactly. This film was fantastic, and Angela Davis makes one of the most touching speeches in modern history that can appeal to anyone wanting civil rights. The black panthers wanted "all power to the people" and supported rights for other excluded groups as well (and the white panthers were white supporters of this civil rights movement). The black panthers played an essential part in the civil rights movement, despite having a criminal element.
The show did reflect the happenings of that period fairly well. People need to realize that black views have evolved since those days because of the changes that came with intergration. Also I think people need to keep in mind that some of the artist giving commentary were just giving their opinions on things. I don't think the King shooting was the conspiracy that some want to make it out to be. I also don't think every solution to black problems has to be a Big Gov't solution.
Let us all make the first move in eliminating race. It won't happen in this lifetime, but if we start now, our grandchildren can experience a world where no one sees race and differences based on appearance
@pack1 During the time of Ancient Greece, Ethiopia was considered both "Sub-Saharan Africa" and "Western Asia." In other words, Egypt was sandwiched by Ethiopia. This means that Sumer was as Black as Ethiopia. So if Egypt was common to Sumer then Egypt was Black. As to the Congo, it's worth noting that the Sumerian language actually relates with Proto-Niger. In other words, West Africans were the original Sumerians, even before Ethiopia and Egypt interacted.
When you call people names it usually means you have nothing else to add to the argument. Please take a look at the victims in US National Crime Survey that is issued each year by the Dept. of Justice.
What i am trying to make clear to you, is that its not about black people or white people, but about systems and their dynamics. Had the African (or North American, South American etc.) continent had the advanced productive forces that the European continent had (horses, the plow, ox, bronze etc.), it would have developed its existing class system faster than Europe and enslaved persons from Europe, white people. If you are against racism you have to see its historical relevance, material reason
@ABSiblings Oh yeah true, and also one of my friends is white and when he looked back in his family history he had recent african ancestry, strange how people moved around and changed in such a short time period.
@atlgboat33 Thick lips and wide noses are not just black or ''negroid'' features many asian people have them features and other people or peoples have them features. (I'm not disagreeing with you i'm just putting that out)
@SwedishPride87 No, it simply seems as if you're looking for some sort of issue to pick at where it is irrelevant (my comment and this video). I replied back to someone who implied that another American culture, who's surrounded by negative stereotypes is anti-white for speaking about the positive influences on our country today. I don't go to docu's about JFK and try to slander the message, nor any other historic figure. What is your problem?
@pack1 You seem to be making a semantic argument about racism vs. bigotry. When we think of racism, we think of the bigotry and prejudice that goes along with it nowadays.
@pack1 "So the Greeks got their ideas on philosphy and science from black africans?" Many aspects of yes, it's documented by the Greeks themselves, which suggest to me that you don't know Greek history. " why they didn't write it down then, litterate as they were" Timbuktu has one of the largest collection of manuscripts found anywhere in the world writen in Medieval times. There are so far over 800,000 thousand of these found so far. There are many African writing systems as well.
I would be arrested in any country if I said something like that, unless I pretend to be black and say the reverse, why else do I bother coming on to the internet to say this stuff?
@pack1 What foundations has white blood built? And please do your research on recessive and dominant traits because @rittenhserepublican is correct that light skin and eyes are recessive. That's why most of the worlds population doesn't have it. And there are also many problems with the IQ test many people say that intelligence is relative to your experiences the test given to a child is different from an adult so it should also vary from race to race and economic status.
I dont want to focus on just the negative or the positive I want to focus on all of it, nothing left out. Its funny how when you talk about the good things you say"we did it"like you personally had an active part to play in it, but when you talk about the bad things you say"I dont apologize for things I didnt do" How can you take responsibility for just the good and not the bad? Its hypocritical. You cant take responsibility for any of it because YOUVE had no part to play in the good or the bad.
the world is ours, who made you king over every man walkin on earth? I dont wanna be a hater but i hate people who hate on other people just cos they think everything is someone else's fault but their own... what is your goal and what will you win by hating on other? Nothing.
The comment section is fucking ridiculous, and you wonder why we keep revisiting the same tired subject of racism. If you’re tired of it stop I don’t know.. being fucking racist.
@hellokittycutie2003 I'm white, and I have to say, very few white people in American history have contributed something great to our culture(Thoreau, Kerouac, Twain, Sagan, Salinger, Dylan, etc, etc.), and I don't get why the contributions made by black Americans are ignored, it seems the only thing that really made America unique from Europe was the effect of implementing Black subcultures into the larger one. I'm extremely grateful, and inspired. Only idiots see this as anti white! haha.
@BlackHeart240 And what is your problem-- this film is based on tapes from the 60's when racism was worse than it is today. Are you saying that black people don't have the 'right' to examine history and call a spade a spade? Who said it's "unacceptable" to talk about black flaws? Black "flaws" are discussed ad nauseum, you need to get out more.
@pack1 The math that is the basis of the technology we use today came from the Africans and the Arabs. Many history books are rewritten by Europeans so of course they are going to reflect what the dominant society wants. Asians having eye high IQ's has nothing to do with homogeneity the way they obsess over the importance of education in that culture is the reason. In America unless your an immigrant or first generation, they're pretty much the same as us.
Hey the whiteman was always smart because they always came together for one common cause even if they had disagreements they always agreed on one thing, an dthat was to conquer other the white man was always fearless we need to read what the white man reads to think like him "How to overcome fear, and start living fearless" is a great book that I was just introduced to and I'm glad the youtuber that told me about it did I got it from Amazon open up your minds black people check it out
@researchsiempre I don't personally know anyone who went to college without seriously busting their ass and making sacrifices, since you're making stereotypical and racist comments I'll go there too. Maybe more black students would succeed in school if they were more concerned with their grades then social status. Popular kids statistically do worse in school because it takes work to obtain and maintain popularity. Living in DC it was clear social status was a major concern with black students.
@pack1 You really sound similar to Miss South Carolina in the Miss Teen USA pageant in 07. Lets get this right, Egypt is a country in Africa. You said "Egypt is not Africa".Thats a completely ignorant statement and shows that even looking directly at a map that no one disputes you cant face whats in front of you. I gave u evidence from white Greek ancient scholars and the book it was written in that shows they were black and you still look right past it. You have ur mind made up im done.
Did you read my comment? Youre just one person that had no part to play in anything signifcant in history, so how can you take responsibility for things that happened before you were born, be them good or bad? You can only take responsibility for your own actions. I can tell you think Im trying to perpetuate white guilt, but I was just trying to address the arrogance in your original comment, be humble and try not to see yourself as seperate, that POV has been the root cause of some atrocities.
@pack1 Look into the history of the relationships between blacks and whites pre-racism the Greeks admired the blacks and have admitted to getting their ideas about philosophy science and etc. from them and there is even a bust of an African on one side and a Greek on the other symbolizing equality that the Greeks made. The Africans also built the baths in Europe before that Europeans didnt even bathe. Africa was the center of the world at one point research before u swallow what they feed you.
@hellokittycutie2003 just let the racists do as they please, we should be concentrating on each other because that is what they fear most. from what i know of african history, it s possible that we made some mistakes that one cant be proud of during the times when we had power, but we can learn because of our fear of God. white ppl have always been like this and they will never learn. their tape will run out soon enough
Atleast we'll always have our White Entertainment Television.. oh wait.. Atleast we'll always have dating sites just for white people.. oh wait.. Atleast we'll always have our whites only magazines.. oh wait.. I got nothing.

i just watched it today at University of Chicago and as a young black man i have to say i was very inspired by it
Going to check this out this week. It's in the theatres in North Carolina! Very much looking forward to it!
loved this!!
This is amazing. I would love to see the entire thing.
@pack1 and research Sankore Madrasah this is an African university in Timbuktu Mali West Africa which was the center of the Mail Empire the school came to an end in the middle ages so you know this was an old university. This is an African proverb "Salt comes from the north, gold from the south, and silver from the country of the white men, but the word of God and the treasures of wisdom are only to be found in Timbuktu." look it up
I enjoyed the movie greatly and the younger generation definitely needs to see it!

The song starting at 0:13 - which seems to be a "theme song" to this movie - can anyone tell me the name of the song and artist?
My grandmother went with an uncle and I to see this, and it greatly shook me, while my grandmother and uncle were like, "Yep, this is what it was like." This should be viewed by anyone interested in civil rights issues, or history PERIOD.
Dope.
what's the song at 1:31 called?
It is disapointing and heartbreaking to read most comments below. It shows how many ignorant people are still in this world. RACISM BE GONE. DONT HATE. LOVE. HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL!
@Roeni3 I did not write that question, someone else had access to my account at the time. btw irl I have that song in my music collection.
I loved this documentary. I felt it was well done.
Just saw this today incredible film, too bad its just showing for a week here in San Diego.
Swedish TV had done a excellent job. I can imagine the Black expats in Stockholm watching this on TV. I would be watching TV myself if I lived in Sweden in the late 60's and early 70's. I saw the documentary on Public TV and loved it.
@MrCherubhair1 In America--Hollywood is just now releasing a "Three Muskateers" movie. Where you are you from that you see mixed people in movies? :p
Oh yeah, you're right. My cage keeper does have to turn my computer on every time your mother wants to use it.
absolutely Powerful!
Interesting how very few of us learned about this in school, in college, gotta dig it up right?
Best Quote: "We'll pick up the pieces and turn it into a new dance"
THis movie looks great. If teachers had any common sense, they would show this movie in every history class across the country. Students would love it, and at the same time learn something from it.
I watched this film On Demand Search. It's 7.99 but well worth the cost.
@ABSiblings What movie was it? Iv'e seen a couple of three musketeers movie's and a some of them have mixed looking people playing the role as the Three musketeers. And can i ask, do you know were to buy this film because i would love to see it, do you know where i can?
@Ki7689 Hotep. You are very knowledgeable. Are you putting this knowledge to good use?
Not a dream, a nightmare.
Is someone who know the song when Angela is speaking please ?!
This may be off topic (don't let me interrupt your swearing competition), but does anyone know the song at 0:13? Thanks.
I found it out - it's called "Unwritten", performed by "The Roots"
@pack1 They actually did write about it. Herodotus adds that the ancient Egyptians had "black skin and wooly hair".
Still relevant
@LeCalabro Did you even see the movie? Do you know the entire context she was speaking in?

Does anybody know what that track is called? Both of them?

@hellokittycutie2003
Exactly. This film was fantastic, and Angela Davis makes one of the most touching speeches in modern history that can appeal to anyone wanting civil rights. @ABSiblings I'm living in england and they made a ''Three muskateers'' TV series in witch the ''Three muskateer'' actors where mixed race.

Would be a much better place, actually.
Cotton and Tobacco jobs would have been given to paid laborers if slaves hadn't been available.
@MrCherubhair1 Actually--they are--some Chinese simply have more recent African ancestry.
@pack1 You seem to be making a semantic argument about racism vs. bigotry. When we think of racism, we think of the bigotry and prejudice that goes along with it nowadays.

maybe 80% less prisons? 80% less murders? 80% less fatherless children?
@BlackHeart240 Well considering that no one asked you...good.
I suggest you take the time and effort to decolonize your mind and shatter that patriarchal colonial mentality.
Angela Davis looks like Bob Dylan.just sayin

That black girl with the Afro wasn't 100 % black I don't think.. And black people can be reallygood people if they are raised in a good environment
lol
sweden is overwhelmingly white, there are a few somalians but its like 98% white.
It's clear that your angry, and I can understand that. But don't cloud your judgement with rage, black people have a lot of good traits.
