- One of two videos recorded from a TV show in Japan promoting the 1987 touring production of Starlight Express. In this video, the actors for Rusty and the Coaches introduce themselves and talk a little bit about the show, and then the Coaches perform "A Lotta Locomotion" and Rusty performs "Starlight Express".

高校を卒業したばかりの頃、Starlight Expressを見つけました。日本ツアーのビデオは、私が初めて愛したものです。 ツアーは実際に直接見るべき光景だったに違いありません！

I realize that reusing the Australian cast was probably cheaper and easier than finding a new group of singing and dancing skaters (especially since Japan is far more restrictive on where people can use skateboards and roller skates compared to the Western world; see Austin Eruption's video on Tony Hawk clones), but I'd think that a live musical in English would be tough to sell to a Japanese audience.
You’d be surprised to see what resonates well with a Japanese audience! From what I’ve heard, English-language shows in Japan have done well before, but that could depend on how the story is interpreted to the audience as well - for Japan’s revival tour of Starlight (and I’m not 100% sure on if they did this for the original 1987 Japan shows or not), the voice of Control was played in Japanese rather than English to help out in following the story.
But on another note, this particular arena tour made use of a lot more physical stunts, akin to what could be seen in tokusatsu programs like the Super Sentai lineup - if you look at any video where you can see the cast skating around the massive set, it almost looks like it could be a live tokusatsu show!
