      you are 1000% correct idk what they were thinking! especially C.B.. C.B./wide smile is one of my favorite songs of the whole musical and he is so pivotal to the plot, belle has a gorgeous song, and the second heat is just really good!

    I've been trying to find decent footage of Spencer as ACDC for years and here it is. He was always amazing in that role.

    I grew up watching and listening to this whenever it was the school holidays, I cried my eyes out the last time I saw it before they had to rip the stage out... it was absolutely brilliant.
    I loved James who played Rusty, he's such a lovely guy and very talented ❤

    It's with so many differences that there is gonna be conflict. But ya know there are parts That I love from every version. The reason that this is my all time favorite musical is because your left with wanting more with things left unsaid or unmentioned. Like what's the true reasoning behind "there's always me" or just in general the relations between the characters. Plus the hard work and innovation with using rollerskates. With the fact that it's all for love of being a child and living free. Anyways that's my opinion.

      @Marriah I think Starlight Express should have been on film. In fact that musical should have been made into a movie in 1989, released by Walt Disney Pictures, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Jim Henson, one year earlier before his death in May 1990.
      What do you think it would be like if the musical was made into a movie? Please tell me.

      @@1997calvert Well, this is something going into shows being made into proshots which is a icky thing to talk about if made into a blanket statement. But in terms of Starlight express I believe it would be awesome because the demands it calls for doesn't fit a Broadway stage well and only really works in a entire theatre build around for the show. With a medium such as film they have a opportunity to tell their story better in subtle ways to help balance the spectacular special effects that off put people seeing it as either a bland story or just a rollerskate arena show. If they did decide to work with it being proshot however it would be a missed opportunity if they just filmed the stage and not take advantage of what the new medium can do. I get with the loads of changes being made over the decades it would be somewhat troublesome, but really all that's needed is to fill in the blanks on narrative so it becomes a more compelling story for all ages instead of "shiny show to distract kids" or "(starlight express repeated over and over again)"

    • @sondersighs
      @sondersighs 2 года назад

      And as for the movie being made and cancelled, I believe at the time ALW wanted to keep it under his own jurisdictions as the core idea of Starlight express was to continue on with a idea despite being rejected (with his rejected Thomas the train episode pitches). Doing something and being able to do it without someone telling him no and not seeing eye to eye on his vision or even try to find understanding. He wanted to persevere in spite of what the world told him he could not do. With Disney I can see it being cancelled mainly because of the hand they have in things; if they have disagreements or differences in vision Disney is in a position where they either go with what they want or not at all. So I can see ALW shutting down or not doing business with them at all on something like this.

      @@sondersighs I'm glad you agree and I agree with you too it would only work with a proper movie format. I can imagine a great collaboration between the Walt Disney Company, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Steven Spielberg and Jim Henson bringing Starlight Express to life on the motion picture screen, can't you?

      @@1997calvert I think if it were made in the 20th century, like to promote the original show or the "New" one, Amblin, George Lucas and Henson would be best because honestly, the soundtrack doesn't really sound like a Disney film from that era.
      If it were made nowadays, I think DreamWorks would be best, if they can get Andrew Lloyd Webber in as writer

    I've seen this production a few times and each time I noticed how Dinah's accent is pretty horrible, which is ironic consider the non-rhoticity of General Southern American English is a direct descendant of the non-rhotic forms of British English brought over with the original settlers. Considering this actor is British, she could've just used much of her own accent to give a little more reality to the character. Minor quibble of course.
