cows don't eat chickens, so I think the possible answer is 30. Maybe just a common sense test.

I'm so confused, all this time I thought it was two because 28 of the cows CHICKENS, chickens as a verb meaning scared. So 28 cows chickened and 2 cows didn't.

It only works if the riddle is spoken otherwise the spelling is incorrect and ignore the fact that cows don't eat meat. It would be better to say foxes than cows and speak the riddle. There are 30 foxs in a filed and twenty ate (eight) chickens . How many died ?
