Being a professional Pastry Chef for more than 40 years, I’m familiar with the Southern Caramel Cake and my personal favorite of these three the Mississippi Mud Tart... But, l was totally blown away by Martha’s last choice of cakes the “Lane Cake”. It looks extremely interesting and quite delicious! I’m absolutely going to whip this Cake up tomorrow! It’s Friday evening and my family is visiting Sunday! However, l don’t think could serve this particular Cake to my Grandchildren! (They’re all under the age of seven!) Last month, my five year old Grandson insisted he was drunk, after eating a bowl of Penne Pasta with Vodka Sauce! Of course he wasn’t but, he stop him from stumbling around my dining room! 🥴🍝👦🏻😂🤦🏻♀️
Martha, I so enjoy watching you cook, bake , decorate. You are awesome. Have several of your craft items from Michael's. And your Christmas decorations from home depot. TY. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My 4 yr old granddaughter wanted to bake something every time she came over, so I tried to keep ingredients around. Then I realized she just likes to stir eggs and batter, so I might just resort to pancakes occasionally.
Martha, when you make caramel, what size pot do you use? I’ve looked for a tall, straight sided pot, but there are so many to choose from. Any direction you might have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!
That Lane cake. Was very interesting. Never seen egg yoke used in an icing . I bet if that were sold by the slice in a restaurant, it would be 20.00perslice. Lots of time went into making.

She touched on a lot of topics in her series "Martha Stewart Living", in which she would show viewers everything from a trip to a lovely old hardware store to a session on grilling sweet corn. But I don't think she ever really went into the subject of sewing.

3 cups of sugar is way too much. On top of that the caramel? One can die of diabetic just by eating this cake. Frankly i would omit that 1 cup of castor sugar.

Frankly The normal Ratio of 3 cups Flour to 2 cups sugar already too sweet. Ideal to 3 cups of flour is 1.5 cups of sugar. Not too sweet, just a nice amount of sweetness. But this caramel recipe is using 3 cups of sugar? Oh my! Is there any scientific reason to why she needs to put that 1 cup of castor sugar? I think that Dark brown sugar already more than enough.

I’ve made the Mardi Gra. party cake, which is great. My gpa loved it, especially the pecan, coconut, German chocolate type filling between layers.
