I like how Mike Miller's whole solo is propelled by musical ideas--what he plays is totally in the moment. Compositionally, I think he's a more satisfying and engaging soloist than Gambale, who has incredible chops but usually fails to reach me emotionally. I also got a kick out of the Van Halen quote from "I'll Wait" at the end of his solo...
I really love this lineup of the Elektric Band. Less obvious technical bla, more soul and groove. The solo's on that album are so melodic and intense. Fantastic!
In my humble opinion, for many fans the Elektric Band must include Dave Weckl. However, Gary Novak is neither better nor worse than Weckl; he simply has a different groove and has given the Elektric Band a whole new sound. I like it - and him! This is a beautiful track.
I am a huge fan of Weckl....though not of the early Electrik Band sound. Weckl is like the best version of the culmination of all old school drumming philosophy and style, except maybe the freer rawer Coltrane drummers. Gary really is some sort of new thing entirely.
This Elekric Band2 line-up is my favorite. I especially enjoy Mike Miller’s solos not to mention other players too. Mike’s playing is so tasteful with so much feel. The album’s paint the world features so much of mike’s great work. My only disappointment is there was just one album released for this band setups. Can’t get enough. The same How I wish there were more of Scott Henderson with CCEB. (Fortunately got tribal tech). As for Mike Miller, still looking for his other recordings.. Greeting from a tiny little island 🏝 on the equator, south east Asia.
It took me a day and a half to figure this tune out. As a bass player, it's hard not to hear those rimshots on Beat 3. The way the bass line works with that melody line is fucking wicked
Nice groove_top notch performances. I love it when jazz musicians " quote" other famous or well known melodies as Chick does when he juxtaposes "When Johnny Comes Marching Home".
that's gotta be one of the best drum sounds i've ever heard live. people say "it's not the arrow, it's the indian", but i gotta call bullshit on that. those sonor drums with gary and that set of zildjians is as good as it gets. and i heard he packs a mean peace pipe.
This is definitely rushed, but you never know how these guys are gonna play it from night to night. I think it feels better at half speed but in it's defense, it's pretty cool to see these guys challenged a little bit. Jimmy Earl smokes this one to be sure..... Thanks for posting
Overall, I'd say Chick is hands down the better jazz pianist. Herbie had MANY great 70s fusion albums, lots of keyboard layering. Chick had plenty of generally good stuff int he 70s, but relaly only Romantic Warrior that was a true killer album. So I;d say Herbie is the better fusion keybaordist.
No, It´s Jimmy Earl, one of the greatest player in the world. Chick has a real greatest players in his band not some regular, not some regular rockers.
perfectly and really deeply said. I love Dave too, but as you said, he lost some of the power. Gary plays loose naturally and with power - that´s greatest combination and goal of every drummer. I was interestin´about Dave´s looseness, but when you perceive his play as a whole it´s not so much interestin´. After that I came back to Gary, He has it all.
I have to disagree :-) album version is sluggish and too lazy to follow, this live version gets me excited every time I start listening to it. But that's my opinion obviously,
Theirs not much subtlety to Gary Novak. It's balls to the wall all the time. I like his playing nowadays with Michael Landau. He seems to have calmed down a bit. Mike Miller is a special player. He's as good as Chick, but playing guitar.
my buddy Mikey Miller tearing it up...The most underrated and one of the most interesting Guitar players in town.
Mike Miller's performance here is one of the best guitar performances ever for me, no exagerrating. It is so musical
MIKE MILLER IS UNREAL!!!!!!!
I was just thinking the same thing!

💯
Mr Jimmy Earl on bass..must be mentioned!!he is !the main element of this awesome groove..
goes to total out of time
Gary's playing is amazing.
one of the most beautiful compositions

totally agree
It's sad that this band didn't record and tour more. This group is one of the highlights in all of Chick's career (as well as his Time Warp quartet).
check Montraux-not same squad, but as Great
Mike Miller is a Guitar Master!
For Shure
Back again in astonishment. Rest in peace dear Chick.
I really love this lineup of the Elektric Band. Less obvious technical bla, more soul and groove. The solo's on that album are so melodic and intense. Fantastic!
love the sound of the yamaha drums. very cool tone and tuning on this record and tour. gary doesn't get the love he deserves
Great band, Novak on drums is killer. RIP Chick.
... another historical BassLine... love it!!!
Nice Song 👍💘😃

Pozdr
Oh my god, Gary Novak is the BEST. OH MY GOD
4:52 miller's solo. so much swagg!
Unbelievable! It doesn't get any better than this. I love this tune. The audio quality is astonishing.

My favourite incarnation. Novak/Earl/Miller are masterful sidemen. Its not rocket science but its masterful interpretation. Corea flourishes..
Man......Novak is unbelieveable.
Def the best song from this album.
Chick Corea simplesmente um gênio da música!!!
They sound sensational and that's saying the least!

Na kasecie VHS miałem nagrany ten koncert :D w szoku! jakoś oryginał :D
TEMASO GRACIAS CHIC Y MIKE MILLER TREMENDO SOLO DE GUITARRA
Awesome Elektric Band!Wow!👏👏👏👏👏
What great guitar playing.
It took me a day and a half to figure this tune out. As a bass player, it's hard not to hear those rimshots on Beat 3. The way the bass line works with that melody line is fucking wicked
yup
A great post and a great example of Mike Miller's guitar brilliance. TY! There should be many more of those, MM is too unknown...
Nice groove_top notch performances. I love it when jazz musicians " quote" other famous or well known melodies as Chick does when he juxtaposes "When Johnny Comes Marching Home".
Fantastic
Il miglior tour della electric band
This is a real masterpiece
Sensacional, grande Chick Corea e Elektric Band.
Long time no see. Terje Bjørlo, the famous guitar man !! Priceless.
yes, it's on chick corea elektric band II - paint the world (1993 - Grp records)
Que belleza, el gran Chikc Corea y la Electric Band, el ritmo es igual al de un carnaval ayacuchano jazzeado.
🙌 Superlativo 🙌
yeah, totally - I love him the most.
Gary had such a nice touch back then. He seems to hit much harder now - even with Holdsworth.
That's a real sweet ride, and very handsomely played!
great stuff, always thought it was vinnie on this album
Fantastic!
Best sounding Kick, ever!
that's gotta be one of the best drum sounds i've ever heard live.
people say "it's not the arrow, it's the indian", but i gotta call bullshit on that.

O Moje Rany
... I think even Mister Amadeus Mozart would find a new things in here and cry.

Ah! Agreguen a Jimmy Earl en el nombre del video 🙏
to you too, wishin´well. have a good life
wow!
@mrthundaboots "Ished" off that album is a freaking drum clinic.
Гари Новак гениальный барабанщик
Por qué este discazo no está en Spotify
Ohhh yeah!
@jakehawthorn it sure is,Jake!
This proves my argument that you can't teach touch. I have to dig this album out.I liked "CTA",too!
Best fusion keyboardist of all time. No offense Joe Zowinal or Herbie.
I wish they played it at bib slower, to give Mike Miller more room, space for playing longer and slower lines. Phenomenal performance nonetheless.
@pjakubec23, the guy who plays keyboards ))))
GN is darn good.
yeaaaahhhhh!!!!!!1
Is this track available on any albums/LPs?

Warsaw :):):):)
Please add Jimmy Earl on bass & MIKE not Mark Miller on guitar for proper credit on this killer tune.
The guitarist looks like the famous Terje G. Bjørlo from Norway.
Chick # 1
@Pocketdrummer19 Which one is Novak?
i love this one, but seriously, speeding it up desttroys much of its atmosphere
I have to disagree :-) album version is sluggish and too lazy to follow, this live version gets me excited every time I start listening to it. But that's my opinion obviously,
Where’s part 2 ass?

I disagree. There is the obvious bombastic thing happening, but there are all sorts of subtle undulating connections.
Gary Novak makes me sick ..
