Thank you once again Vivian! I always love your videos, even when the focus is not on my favourite styles. Thank you for helping me learn more about all things decor, architecture and design styles. ❤❤❤
Love, love, love the images used in this video, and I think this may be one of my most favorite design styles. Thanks for sharing all your ideas and tips!
Ohh the rooms you featured for this video are magnificent! 😍 I love the cozy vibe of the academia aesthetic, but my rooms would need touches of whimsy for me to truly feel at home. I'm a wood elf at heart. A little bit of magic and sparkle really helps balance the daily gloom of the world outside our door. 💖
I prefer my own academia decor style between light & dark moodiness for my library study. If it’s too light it’s a distraction for me to write, study, read, etc. I need a combination of coziness and a dark broody atmosphere.
Very helpful very informative well done you really have that special gift to beautiful video and loaded with useful information for an interior designer much love and appreciation ❤️✨
Thank you Vivian. I Loved this! I took my time and watched it and paused repeatedly! This is so helpful and exactly what I needed to see right now. Please do one on french country styles. You totally made my day and gave me great ideas! 😊😊😊
So, by inventing a new name which is quite vague and doesn't really describe anything, you can tell everyone how to decorate in ways that have been there all along, just quietly, without a fuss. But now, YOU can claim to be some sort of expert on it and make money out of your vague misunderstandings of other people's cultural norms. Please, go and travel to Europe, see real places. Don't just exist in a stage set.
Wow, slagging off on someone who is giving encouragement and offering ideas to someone who is considering a new look but may not know where to start and may be overwhelmed or confused. Sounds like a nice walk outside might be a good idea for the harsh judgemental attitude. I hope you have a better day than the one your comment made this woman feel.
@lokisfriend ....FYO Vivien was born in the UK and went to school in Italy, where she got her degree. Don't know about you, and I don't care, but you sound like an ass. Have a wonderful day
Hi there, I am an aquascaper and I have a few fish tanks, where would you suggest placing fish tanks around the living room in a house with mid century modern furniture?
Most people won't have tons of authentic antique leather-bound books now, either, even if they do have 20 foot high ceilings and built-in bookshelves for their reading cave?
Books, books, and more books. They are THE decor item that doesn't depend on a style, nor a trend, to be relevant. As far as encyclopedias that nobody read... That was what searching and researching was when I was in high school - opening books, not laptops. My parents bought a set and all 7 of their children used them for pretty much every subject in school. But, yes, they're wonderful nostalgia and decor items these days.
Oh so THAT'S what I've got! I wasn't 'decorating.' i just have lots of Books (not Props - I use them) and Plants and Lamps and Statues and Brass Candlesticks and pale colors And an antique Typewriter. Just kinda assembled itself.😊
Can someone tell me how to do light/dark academia but with your family photos? My husband and I have to compromise with a bit of modern 😒 but also I’d like to see our family as well a bit. No clue how to style them or what frames, whether or not to filter them/edit etc. please help !
If you have antique cherry furniture that you don't know what to do with, as they made a lot of it in the 1700s and 1800s, Light Academia is a really good solution to make it shine. I saw a lot of wood furniture in these photos that resembled cherry. Real antique cherry wood is beautiful, but everyone thinks of the fake overly red stained cherry of the 1980s.
This is not so much about the video, but more about how dark/light academia is so hard find on campuses these days. I’ve worked at two prestigious universities, and studied at two less prestigious ones, and I think only the university president and provost have “posh” offices 😉. Maybe there is one Harry Potter like library and maybe a cool modern one, the rest are glib and boring. The professors offices are usually plain shelves hung on rails on the walls for their many many books, and some otherwise outdated furniture.
Light academia is the way large libraries have always looked. The reason dark academia became a thing is because libraries normally look like this video. What am I missing?
My only comment isn’t directed at Vivian but about the style itself. Wow, I would hate to have to do the housekeeping; the rooms/houses are huge and loaded with so much “stuff”!!!!
So basically an upper middle / upper class living room and formal library. Rich people's homes. It would be so refreshing to see these concepts in a regular modest home with 8 foot ceilings, only one loungeroom space where the family gathers which is integrated into an open plan space. Does a modest bookshelf with 95% books and 5% decor, count as light academia? No second study/library room, sitting room, living room etc.
Rich people? I know middle class with all of the above, including my family. You mean a smaller house. Yes a bookshelf and little space for decor is still Academia. Can be done in smaller scales for smaller spaces.
@@mariastathopoulos744 yes, I know this lame label is just a rebranding for traditional style, and when you have very little room, even a bookcase can count as Academia, which goes with the the main item of the style, books. Besides, Academia is not even a true decor style but more of a lifestyle, the way academics live, and was never an aesthetic but a byproduct of the life of an academic that reflected on their living arrangements.
I understand the idea of providing a lighter version of the dark academia theme but recirculating the victorian theme is just so 40 years ago. Personally I'd prefer something more along the Japandi / mid-century style. Its more contemporary and easily doable. It'll also become a new classic style in a few years
Victorian and Academia are both classic. Both have been around since forever and will continue to be styles that people like. Japandi is nice and is just a mix of two other classic styles, Scandinavian and Japanese. People can have whatever they like and that is ok.

Vivien, nobody finds exact images to fit the narrative as you do,cheers!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is sooooo much better than dark academia! Love it.
Yes, the dark is pretty but I couldn't live in it without feeling exhausted all of the time, and possibly a little depressed.
I like the warmth and cozy feeling of this style. Lots of great ideas! Loved this! ❤

I've never heard of Light Academia, so thank you for "enlightening" us. 🤭
Ahhh, I see what you did there

❤ both academia styles.
As a light-loving vampire, I needed this video.
Thank you so much! Hope you are not bothered by rude people who have no life . I hate to see nasty comments. Nice video and well presented.
I could listen to you read from a science journal or phone book. Your voice is so chef's kiss.
yes yes yes 💖
Finally I have found a name for the style I’m trying to create in my summer house!!!
Nice! Thank you. I'm trying Planta too.
Love the new channel name. I think the change fits the growing direction of your content ❤

imagine feeling threatened by a home library lol, that's terrific
I don't need to travel to Europe; I live there and I enjoyed the video.
Thank you
Oehh im excited to see
This is exactly MY style and now I know what to call it! 😂
Wow you really know how to deconstruct a design style! Love it 😍
Oh I’m a Dark Academia girl….but hey, I’m a Goth…what can you expect from a pig but a grunt! 🖤🤣😳
❤❤❤❤❤
Love, Love, Love! Great representation!
Living by the sea side hot humid climate need ideas to make home the opposite and relaxing 😅

@@PoshPennies love to🤫😊
Great episode! You changed the channel name. No more Posh Pennies. Great to see an upload though.
You showed me my style. Thank you
Your videos are sooooo wonderful and inspiring. Thank you for your humor and insight. Awesome!!
Wow Vivien ❤❤❤. Academia all the way!!!!!
Beautiful! Thank you so much.
Finally Light Macadamia!
😂🌰
You are nuts 🎉
How can i mix these aesthetic’s gracefully?
Not trying to advertise or anything but there are some apps that allow you to turn your photos into paintings as well

Love this so much! ❤
Alternatively 😊
Better slideshow than some I've seen BUT bare walls OK if going for the Dead Poet's minimal dorm room accurate look.
I would say florals work less good than argyle if we're being strictly square or whatever...
Most people won't have tons of authentic antique leather-bound books now, either, even if they do have 20 foot high ceilings and built-in bookshelves for their reading cave?
Yeah, I HAD the encyclo set that may still be in family proximity if they kept somewhere?
As soon as you bought them is when the teachers at school started telling you that they could not be used for essay paper sources..................
Great video… side note, if you don’t mind sharing, where is your statement Pearl necklace from? Also looks great on you. Thx
What if most of us live in small spaces instead of all those mansions these youtubers like to show in their Dark/Light Academia videos?
You know what I did is I went to Ikea I did three of the Billy bookcases in a corner and decorated with a lot of nature stuff
Funny, two more labels for traditional/victorian/english decor

What height of cove base would you recommend. I have high ceilings over 12 ft. Wasn’t sure if 5” is large enough. TY
This seems to mean, having enough bookcases and fill them with books. (To be fair, one tends to never have quite enough book shelves
Is there such a thing as in between academia😅? Both sides are too extreme for me
So a big book case with lots of books and a sofa?
Oh so THAT'S what I've got! I wasn't 'decorating.' i just have lots of Books (not Props - I use them) and Plants and Lamps and Statues and Brass Candlesticks and pale colors

Whew! I hope professional interior decorators can soak this all up. It's a bit overwhelming to me.

Light Academia turns dark at night
Definitely.

Ummm, correction!…we actually did our essays and research papers in school with those old encyclopedias!!!😂😂😂

'Light academia' is just a new term for Traditional.
