Hit that SUBSCRIBE button and watch another Barnacules Nerdgasm video right after this one! 🍿 In this episode of #JerryRigged I show you all the wrong ways to fix a broken power button on Logitech Z-5500 THX Surround PC speaker receiver and due to a chain reaction of unfortunate bad decisions a 5 minute simple clever hack turns into a 30 minute documentary of fail ending in possible redemption.

    Q) Why didn't you just 3D print a new button
    A) Come on, I wouldn't even get batteries down stairs for the remote, you think I was going to design and print a new button from scratch? (But maybe later)
    Q) Why didn't you unplug it?
    A) Truth is I didn't want to climb under the desk because my rib is still hurting like hell from being cracked. That being said it was stupid even though it made the video somewhat more entertaining from a cringe-worthy standpoint.
    Q) Why are you so fat?
    A) Lots of access to food!
    Q) Can you still buy those speakers?
    A) Yes, I linked them above however they are like $1500 because they are NOS now because they don't make them anymore. Just get the Logitech G906's which aren't quite as good but the best thing they make now or just get yourself a good stereo receiver and book shelf speakers or studio monitors if you have the space!
    Q) Why is this video 30 minutes long?
    A) I know RUclips wants 10 minute videos and this will hurt the viewership but I don't care, it was fun to make this video and I like making fun videos
I hope you enjoy the #DIYGasm #HowTo videos on my channel including #Tutorial of 3D printing, programming, technology, VR and so much more.
UPDATE: It broke after 3 days. I opened it up and used hot glue like I wanted to do the first time and it works like brand new and took 5 minutes total 😉 still hope you enjoyed the video 😎

I hope you guys enjoyed watching this very long train wreck of a #JerryRigged episode showing just how wrong things can go before they go right. This project should have originally taken like 10 minutes but instead went on for hours because of mistake after mistake. I hope you get a laugh at my continuous attempts to make a simple problem hard as possible and ultimately fix it. If you *ENJOYED THIS VIDEO* please give it a like and consider subscribing for more content like it in the future. Also check out my 760+ other videos that cover anything nerdy.

  • @RandarTheBarbarian
    @RandarTheBarbarian 5 лет назад

Jerry if you see this (I know I'm way late), I'm not gonna ignore those klipsch speakers, I mean if they've been working for you for a long time that's great, but it puts extra strain on the amp. You've lowered the impedance on that line , say they're both 8 ohm speakers spliced in to one line then then it's 8/2 so you have 4 ohms of resistance. Now if your amplifier is designed to work with 4 ohm speakers then no problem but if not you've created a short-er circuit as well as increasing the necessary load on the line. In component speaker setups especially older amplifiers have externally replaceable fuses that this excess in current would cause to blow and thus need to be replaced, however in an all in one setup as with most computer speakers you could easily be causing the premature death of the amp.
With a setup as extreme as yours why not go to a traditional surround sound receiver using the SPDIF output found on many modern boards? There's a lot more freedom there, and not only that, but lets face it, logitech speakers can be good, but klipsch all around would probably be better. I have some decent enough Cerwin-Vega computer speakers, but I tell ya man I'd trade them in a heartbeat for surround, definitely would have invested in proper surround sound over 3x 43" samsung TVs for screens but that's personal preference.
Also super gel works great for not getting fucking everywhere you don't want it to be

I have never commented, but I've watched your videos for a long time now. I really enjoyed this video. It is like the good old times. You have such energy on camera and I understand that energy is hard to keep up. Just want to let you know that I love your videos and the stuff you do.

lol Well now I know what the inside of my Z-5500 Control Panel looks like. My power button works fine, along with the remote. However, the screen has gone super dim. Still functions correctly, so I'm gonna use it until it's completely dead! Great vid!

Maybe some one sided sticky rubber pads would help the bottom of the stand not slide? Other than that keep it up Jerry! I’ve been with you a long time and whenever I see a video from you I remember the passion you have! Take care.

Dude, they sell for like $1600 on Amazon now for a new in box set since they don't make them anymore. They are way better than the G906 but that's the best they got right now for consumer stuff.

PCs can come and go, but the Z5500s are forever.

My led display backlight has gone really dark on mine. I might have to pry it open and see if there’s anything that can be fixed.

After about 10 minutes I started to wonder how this could turn into a 33 minute repair. The next 23 minutes were well worth it to find the answer. Thank Budhaclese it all worked in the end, because the only emotion more intense than the relief of a working repair is the despair of having to take it apart again

Quite happy to hike a few miles up a mountain for the sheer hell of it and health, batteries for remote on other side of house? forget it, too far lol. That's probably how a lot of us think.
Next week, Jerry performs live brain surgery. Gets out the Gorilla super glue in preparation along with blutack, drawing pins(thumbtacks) zip ties and sellotape. Chainsaw is optional. To quote, "not the way to do things, it is A way".
