Hi can we get a video explaining antiques and how to decorate with them? I love antique furniture and never see any designer discuss it ever. Thank you!! Love your content!
Dig deeper into the RUclips world.. I had seen decorators that indeed use a lot of antiques in their spaces. Check Lisa Holt for example. She explains all styles. Plus reading articles on internet gives a lot more insight than videos can. I also decorate with antiques so I am always looking for more info that can be found at first sight.
Thank you for featuring Folds of Honor. My son in law did two tours in Afghanistan and is 90% disabled due to an IED that exploded by him and his fellow soldier. They both survived but with life changing injuries. God bless all those that have sacrificed their lives/quality of lives, for our freedoms. ❤
This is literally one of the only times life has shined on me. I inherited the most GORGEOUS vintage rug. Everything else has been budget built, and your channel has been incredibly helpful with making my home gorgeous

@@Nick_Lewis Thank you for the video. Many videos seem to subscribe to the conventional rug sizes and furniture placement. However I recently came across Nina Garcia's AD home tour. Her designer Carlos Aparicio challenges most of the "rug rules" where the furniture in the living room and other seating seating areas seem to sit outside of the rug and it looks so beautiful. Can you please comment on this. Thank you. ruclips.net/video/TsqR7HA0Vpc/видео.html
Would love a pet friendly decor video! We have two cats and a large fluffy Bernese. I need to have a cat tree but never see any rooms where they are styled in, they always feel like an afterthought thrown in a corner. Or like what dog friendly furniture do you recommend because our big boy jumps on the couch all the time and our cats scratched so much at our old sofa...
I had a gorgeous cat tree at my last apartment. I got it from a local cat store, but it was designed from real tree branches and looked like a heavy duty tree with 6 platforms at various levels for the cats. I can’t link you to this, but it was super easy to style into the apartment and looked like art instead of just a cat tree
Ha! I married my guy (he has four cats: it must be love) & we're finally building our new house together. I'm a modernist but my rugs are antique Orientals & flat weave Kilims (I'll sell them); his rugs: cat resistant indoor/outdoor rugs. I am spending hours combing websites looking for indoor/outdoor rugs that the cats won't claw to pieces, and (it must be said) that will be easily cleaned of cat vomit. Any leads on design, color, materials & sources would be great.
YES! I have a cat and a chowchow, so I feel your pain. Picking out rugs and textiles is one of my favorite parts of decorating a space but I'm so limited to what my animals won't destroy
Yes! Thank you for mentioning the need for more durable rugs in places like the kitchen or high traffic areas. Your approach and information are useful for all budgets.
This is perfect for where I am in my decor right now! I’m in a small apartment (side chairs? No room) and I’ve fallen in love with our multicolor, recycled fabric rug. It actually made me realize that my space needs to be a lot more boho to incorporate the softer, more natural side of what my partner and I love. I was debating getting rid of the rug, even though it was expensive and I love it, but I don’t think I have to!

My problem is I like so many different styles. I've bought and returned several, unfortunately. Congrats on your new sponsors.
I will love you for ever for not bagging on the polypropylene rug. I have one in my living room, and after listening to enough online designers, I was ready to let it go and buy a wool, because clearly it was holding my space back. Then my 4 year old dropped spaghetti all over it. I pulled out the straight bleach and thanked my lucky stars I had a plastic rug. We may never be grown up enough for a wool rug in the living room.

Thanks Nick. I have a Afghani rug that I got when I was stationed in the Middle East. It is definitely a little small for the space in my new house but I just refuse to put it anywhere else. It was in storage for years and I want it to have it chance to shine. I did get the front legs of my furniture on it but that was it.

Well i’m a day late lol, & just bought a rug for my garage studio- hope i did OK! Lol - I think I found a good deal, from Home Depot 🤷♀️ I wanted a 9 x 12 (its a big space) but i loved the pattern best of a 8x 11 ... & figured me loving the overall color & pattern is more important to me than losing one foot in length/width - I found it for under/around $150! The search/filter options really helped me narrow things down to make my decision easier, I just ticked the $100-150 box & that narrowed it down to a couple favorites. I’m sure its synthetic, I got it for under my bed & to stretch/do yoga/& workout on. Can not wait to finally get things pulled together. I think i should finally be able to finish my makeover project within just one more week! 😝🤗 i wanted something restful for my eyes, & went with a blue, i think Persian? inspired style... i got the Abigail Britta Midnight blue by United Weavers🌊🌊 😌🧜♀️😉
Hi Nick. What's your idea on putting a rug on a carpeted floor already? Is it recommended for aesthetic purposes? I look forward to your answer. Thank you!
That part about putting a rug on your wall made me chuckle - I'm from Russia and I think every Russian had a huge funky rug on a wall when they were little and thought it was weird 😅
Ummm sir. Are you stalking me? Cause you just posed a video about small apartment decorating which was perfect for me cause I just moved into my first apartment and now you’re posting about rugs...which I am in fact frantically looking for. You’re a hero!😂💕
Another inspiring and helpful video Nick! Love it 👍 Could you do a video on how to decorate with finishing touches like candles, vases, mirrors, plants, ect. Thanks so much 😊 Can't wait for the next video.
My home is tiny 2 bed and our place gets dirty quickly and easily. I bought a cream shag for my toddlers room and I should of known because the rug got filthy and even with getting it professionally cleaned it still wasn’t cleaned. I’ve decided to forgo a traditional rug and have a large playmat and leaving floors bare. Minimal look for me.
Thanks Nick! Great info and I love the last bit about having fun. You're right, I need to let up and just have fun. Mistakes will happen but I can't find what I like without trying.
I love shag rugs, but don't love cleaning the dirt that gets into them on the floor, so we mounted our shag rugs as wall decor in the living room and bedroom. Makes the space really cozy and textured!! We managed to find some really great, big wool rugs second hand through marketplace at an affordable price. Having them professionally cleaned made them almost like new.
Been looking to buy one since I moved in January but would not dare to do it until you made a video on rugs, so I patiently waited as I knew it was coming sooner or later. I guess I'm ready now , thanks !😎
We tried to buy a rug for living room, but still don’t have any. We’ve ordered a lot of different colours, but all rugs were returned. It’s really very hard to find exactly what so you want and what you see in your head 😊
I need an odd size to accommodate my furniture. Solution… I found wool carpet that I loved. They cut the size I needed and did a binding on the edges. Not inexpensive but not as expensive as those I saw in rug stores.
The best part I like about this video is the " have fun " part👍👍 ALSO when you said u could find art on the floor 🙏🌹👏maybe ALSO when you said "Sorry I ' m all flustered !! " 🧡💙💚 Thank u so much for these 🤣 rugged tips 💝🙏🌞 🎯🙏🌝
2 questions: 1. If you have more than one rug in a space how do coordinate them? I don’t think they should be the same but how should they coordinate? 2. You said jute in an entry way. Is this OK for a climate like MN where we have snow? Will that make jute a mess? Id love to add a jute rug at my front door but I’m afraid it will not stay looking nice.
With one exception, being when the bottom rug is a closed loop, low pile jute, I find layered rugs a problem. They can be weird to walk on (too cushioned, like walking on jello), and the top rug travels and buckles as it is floating over a rug that has a nap and pushes the top rug along.
For outdoor rugs on your patio, don't you get a lot of rain and even snow in the Pacific northwest? What does that do for rug use? Soggy, dirt-blown muddy mess? I live at he edge of the Rockies and the high plains. Wyoming blows ALL the time. Can't even imagine the mess that rug would make on my patio.
I’m having a hard time picking a rug because of style. I have an open-concept kitchen/dining/living room that is a combination of different styles that look very well balanced right now. My new living room rug would either totally change that balance and pull the style of the whole place in one direction (I can’t decide which, should I commit to the modern or the traditional, so hard to choose!), or I could go with a neutral rug and keep the balance I have going but then I feel the space might be a little too boring, or at least not as fun as it could be. If I’m spending on a living room rug I might as well pick something fabulous, right? But so many options could work in my space! ... ugh. Decisions. I need some inspiration.
Yet another reason why I loathe open concept :-/ When we (finally) build our house, we will have separate rooms. No more struggling to hear conversation or movies over the clattering of pots and pans or doing dishes from the kitchen. No more kitchen grime-dust on things in the living room. And an actual dining room 😍😍😍 with a real table, not just whatever dinky put it together yourself table fits in the bizarrely small space meant for dining in said open concept floorplan! Sorry, I just really really detest open concept lol As for your issue, good luck. I know the feeling lol
I was leaning toward jute and/or sisal, but I heard that these rugs are VERY difficult to clean, and that they (especially jute) can harbor bugs because they're made of grass, which will attract beetles.
I messaged you on Instagram a few weeks ago asking if you could do a video like this. I don’t know if you saw it or not, but thank you for the video regardless.
I appreciate not being told to only buy hand knotted rugs :,) I have some rugs that certainly aren't hand knotted but I love them. I thought I should get quality rugs so I ordered some and didn't like them as much as what I already had. I honestly can't believe I listened to that criticism when I already liked what I had. Lesson learned! (And yes I sold those rugs and kept the *cheap* ones lol)
The timing for this video was perfect! I was in the market for an affordable transitional rug, and I just bought the Sagefield rug you linked from Wayfair - thank you! :)
I work at a natural flooring retailer and jute is absolutely not ideal for entry ways. it is not durable and actually the only natural material we dont recommend for high traffic areas. for entry ways you want something like coir. Places where mud gets tracked in Seagrass flooring is also decent as you can brush the mud off once it dries. Jute and sisal will ruin with any kind of moisture, In living spaces with moderate foot traffic sisal and seagrass are best, in places with low foot traffic you could have jute but honestly, we hardly ever recommend jute due to it being so easy to ruin. I have noticed that lots and lots of people who should be more aware (like designers or some of these youtube influences) seem to reccomend jute as something to go where there is high foot traffic and its simply wrong. If you want natural for high foot traffic go for sisal and seagrass.
Thx for the content Nick ❤ could you please make a video regarding vacuum robot friendly rugs 😅. It’s really a challenge for me knowing, as they can not climb over a specific thickness like 1 cm which excludes a lot of interesting fluffy thick rugs 😢.
DANG NICK! so many great videos... I'm going to have to just start saving them for later... I have a new place it ain't much but it's mine! and I'm going to take it from a turd to a gem... I've always loved interior design I'm almost 70 and I finally have a place of my own... And my head screwed on fairly straight....lol.. it's a great project for me. I have piles of fabric sewing machine elbow grease and I'm very resourceful when it comes to materials.. I'm not beyond pulling over for a nice table or a chest of drawers couple weeks ago I got a nice beveled mirror on the side of the road...😃 Funnnnnn
REALLY needed this video! Thank you! Looking for an area rug for our home in Hawaii and worried about moisture and it holding up with me working out on it. Love the texture of jute. Can't imagine laying on my bareback working out on it. LOL Thank you for the advice!

Video idea, how to design around a tv. I’ve been struggling with this. Love this video!
Nick you’re the best ! Buying my home soon and will incorporate most of your tips, if not all 👍
For outdoor rugs on your patio, don't you get a lot of rain and even snow in the Pacific northwest?
Yet another reason why I loathe open concept :-/
When we (finally) build our house, we will have separate rooms.
Sorry, I just really really detest open concept lol
As for your issue, good luck. I know the feeling lol
YASSSSS I'm so happy to see this as I move into my new home!

Thank you for explaining this! I was looking through your channel yesterday for a video like this and miraculously it appeared today.
You're right, size matters
I was leaning toward jute and/or sisal, but I heard that these rugs are VERY difficult to clean, and that they (especially jute) can harbor bugs because they're made of grass, which will attract beetles.
I messaged you on Instagram a few weeks ago asking if you could do a video like this. I don’t know if you saw it or not, but thank you for the video regardless.
Nick, you are the best! Getting sponsored by people that support charity for autism. YES, I'm in!
You're awesome Nick!!! I see why you have so many followers. :-) Appreciate all the links in your description...it really helps!!
I would also love some pet friendly options in videos like this! We have a German Shepherd, they're a all year shedder, so that changes a lot haha
Lovely video with lots of Information and knowledge

I'm on a Wayfair rug budget!
adiva rugs machine washable is the best , highly recommended
I appreciate not being told to only buy hand knotted rugs :,) I have some rugs that certainly aren't hand knotted but I love them. I thought I should get quality rugs so I ordered some and didn't like them as much as what I already had. I honestly can't believe I listened to that criticism when I already liked what I had. Lesson learned! (And yes I sold those rugs and kept the *cheap* ones lol)
Totally - I mean of course there is going to be differences in quality but people have budgets!
Sir I love you. everything about your channel I love

Jute and sisal will ruin with any kind of moisture,
In living spaces with moderate foot traffic sisal and seagrass are best, in places with low foot traffic you could have jute but honestly, we hardly ever recommend jute due to it being so easy to ruin.
We r moving and I was just trying to figure this out for our new home! Dogs are going to determine what rugs we buy.
Snap. I'd love a cream Berber rug. Not with my dog and grandkids. It wouldn't last a second .
This is just the video I needed! Thank you 🥰

I love how all of your videos roast my parent's house
What do you think about using an exterior rug indoor to help clean cat's vomit ? I'm afraid to get stains on a regular rug.
This video is a total lifesaver! Thank you.
DANG NICK! so many great videos...
