  • I've always wanted to go out to this lighthouse. It was a 2.5 mile flight out from Ecola State Park, Oregon on January 5th, 2017 with my Phantom 3 Advanced. It was close to 32 degrees but completely clear and no wind. Great flight!

Where you stand at the end is where i normally take off. No trees between the Transmitter and the quad.
Wish i had nice sunny calm days like that. I'm normally flying out there in 40deg with a head wind going out (helps on the return).
    Great video.

Yeah, I just kept an eye on the weather and drove over from portland on a day when it was clear and not very windy. But it was extremely cold! Close to 32 degrees. Was worried about the battery performance, but just made sure to keep them warm before putting them into the drone.

I live in Cannon Beach. Such a tiny swell in January is rare! I can only imagine the lingcod that could have been caught off the rocks on that day.

Looked like a perfect day for visiting tilly by boat. It would be fascinating (but smelly) to explore. Id love to see inside. Especially the staircase.

With no working lighthouse, how are ships warned of the rock's presence?

I would think these are pretty risky trips for an expensive drone. If something "breaks" you've lost it!

Very rare we have a problem when the drone is set up correctly mate. The hardest part of flying is having faith in our drones. Once we over come that and you get confident its great fun. The technology in the latest DJI drones is almost foolproof provided you don’t do anything stupid. Makes sure everything is fully charged, props are in good nick, and beware of wires and cables. I have been flying now for 10 years and so far never had an incident. 😬

What kind of battery did you use? I do not know if I can take my over water. Did you plot it out or drive it out manually?

@@delbertwood5374 Just the normal battery. And flew it all manually. Did two flights on two different batteries.
