DIY Water DeIoniser - No More Water Marks When Cleaning With Tap Water

- In this video I show you how to put together your own home made water deioniser. I went from 400PPM to 0PPM. No more water marks and I can safely rinse of my car in the sun without worry. It costs about £150 to put together but should last years, not months before water spotting starts with casual home use.

Thank you for the detail, thought process, and comparisons. Oh yes, thank you for your hard work and research.
My pleasure!
Fantastic review. I can tell you are very intelligent. 😊
Thank you kindly!
Great video, have made my own exactly the same. Thanks. Your water is really hard.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant 👍
Thanks for watching.
I use 3 x 5 litre vessels, when the TDS gets to 010 ppm I change the resin in vessel 1 and move it to vessel 3. Works out about 20% more efficient which, for me, means 1 less bag of resin per year (£100).
You do alot more washing than me, I am still on the original vessel and resin :)
.Just use card paper for a big funnel
.Use a paintbrush and clear your threads
.Roll cylinder on corner as you apply the cylinder head
Thanks for sharing the tips.
Great video and well explained. 👍I've got the same setup and would be interested on how long it lasts as I have 450ppm tap water. Also to see if 50ppm is the magic number to change the resin.
Still at 0, but with winter (no sun) and lockdown I have not always been using it, so I think its going to last the usual home user many years.
@@SpectrumGeeks Hope so. 🤞
Hi mate, quick question: if i ve right seen the system arrives with 2 black connectors male 1/4-male 3/4 to adapt the green lock hose 3/4, right?
Yeah sounds about right, it was a fair time ago I did this now, but covered all parts of putting it together in the video.
Hi there - new to all this - what are the 2 connectors that you use to go into the in and out of the vessel please. I have a hozelock male connection with a thread but its a bit leaky.
The vessel kit came with the black inserts that go into the top of the vessel, then onto these I used cheap hozelock type connections, but with PTFE tape to give a good seal.
Not bad at all, with a 4 year old 5 stage RO mine is still around 10ppm (down from 550 ppm from the tap).
My CoTs resin filter works really poorly with a jet wash, do you think this'd fair better? Right now I have a dedicated waterbutt filled with RO which I use inbetween washes in combination with a detailer
I cant really comment on the jet wash as not used it for that, as I only use the DeIonised water for rinsing. Which like you I used to do via watering cans and a water butt, but now just use the hose with this inline.
I don't see why it wouldn't work though as it has good flow.
If the weather lets up I will be washing a car or bike this week so can see how it works with my Karcher.
@9:07 where can I get those connectors? I cannot find them anywhere or I might be searching for the wrong name
The black connectors came with the vessel itself, not a separate purchase.
Great video 👍. Do you lose any water pressure when using with the garden?
Nothing noticeable at all. Works fine with the pressure washer also.
@@SpectrumGeeks many thanks!
Is there an update videos on this. How long has it lasted? And any idea how many litres it’s gone through.
No video, but its still going strong on the same bottle of resin, however I have not used it for a while as don't have access to a tap at the moment. I have no idea how many litres have gone through it, but I have used it for the car washing, washing windows, washing solar panels, etc.
i bought a resin vessel just like this but there is hardly any water coming out from the out section. what am i doing wrong perhaps?
I have not had this issue, my only guess would be some clogging in the filter or the exit hole. Water flows freely through mine, I can even tip it on the exit side to empty it of water after each use.
Fairly affordable, gonna buy it probably. You used it with a pressure washer? Do you leave it outside?
I use it with a pressure washer without issue, but I keep this in the garage not outside.
So I would really need is the Vessel, 2 way cap, filter and resin?
Yup, as shown in the video.
is it damaged when not in use? or is the substance stable for long periods?
Mine is still working fine after all these years, I just empty the water between uses
That link to the tank is no longer valid. Can you share more details on it so I can find it on Amazon?
Apologies I missed this. Its an 11 litre DI Resin Vessel.
You can get it here - www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08SBK9BW3?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzspecgeek-21&creativeASIN=B08SBK9BW3&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.3DAZ3929YNW5N&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
hi, great vid. did you try it with a pressure washer yet?
Yes, works without issue.
No drop in pressure or issues, been using it a LONG time now, still on the original resin.
@@SpectrumGeeks after a car wash do you empty out the water from the canister to preserve the resin or just leave whatever water is in there?
@@mrmanrpatel I pop it on the side with the hose attachments off so the water can drain out, also then not so heavy to move back into the garage :)
How many rinse offs did that tank last you in the end? 👍
To be honest I stopped keeping a track, its still going strong today. I use it when cleaning cars, bikes, my camper and the windows, still yet to change the resin out.
@@SpectrumGeeks so tempted to pull the trigger now, nothing worse than water marks on a clean car. Thanks 🙏
Go and buy yourself a 4 stage. Reverse own Moses, they are a 180 quid that is with a water pump. It does 100 gallons a day. That is what you want, you do not wanna keep buying those big bags of resin
I am still going strong on the original bag of resin, so all good here for now.
