Couple thoughts about the reverb listing segment. If it’s just gonna be roasting bad pictures and high prices, it’ll get old. When I post on reverb, I know I’m posting the price for more than it’s worth because this community always lowballs, so I know I’m going to have to negotiate. I think just making sure you focus on ridiculous/cool listings and not just something that’s a grand higher than you think it’s worth. Hope the suggestion helps! Excited for the next phase of dipped in tone!
@@DippedInTone I subscribed and have watched Dipped in Tone since the first episode. for what it's worth, I thought the podcast's quality improved with the inclusion of interviews so hopefully the interviews will be more frequent than not. I understand that organizing interviews is very difficult, time consuming and requires additional prep time. However, there are many channels focused on gear reviews, reviewing Reverb listings and other general gear-focused content so hopefully that will not be the majority of the show. But I get it, everyone has an opinion and ultimately how many people listen and watch will determine success.
I really welcome this back to basics approach. In the beginning when PG came in I was quite hyped to see Bonamassa and PRS on the podcast, but I think you kinda stopped being the podcast I fell in love with. I started watching pedal pushers more than dipped in tone. Glad it's gonna be more of just you two guys.
I am one of the lucky ones that was able to get a Pano Verb on the first run. First of all, its a 10 inch and 15 inch speaker config. Stereo reverb or split into the 10. Harmonic trem, traditional or stereo. 70 watts and it has a micro amp style booster. So yeah it can get loud and nasty or very clean at low volumes. The 3k tag? I am not a rich person or a collector, but this amp has taken my pedalboard and made it less of something I am using. The amp delivers drive, verb and trem that well. The color scheme. I love it. You will change your mind when you see it in person. Its not the same old fender. A dip in the past and a nod to the future. Love the episode. Been a subscriber since the beginning. Looking forward to Rhetts review of the amp. As you can probably surmise, I love it. And I am not a Jack White super fan.
Glad to see Addison.. and glad to see the interviews go. Quick ones were one things but long ones were a bit of a drag. And producer Addison add a "DRINK" graphic at the bottom every time ya'll say DRINK ?
They dipped my rig! Ok, first thing, I didn’t make that box for the amp, the previous/original owner did. The knobs are a bit, but mostly a „set it and forget it“ thing. That sweet cream and superbadass combo just got replaced by the Extra Hot!
When I was at Sweetwater as a sales engineer I sold a DGT gold top to a customer and it started checking super fast. The customer was upset and Paul Reed Smith himself ended up getting me and my customer on the phone with David Grissom.
What makes me go to my fav guitar stores: excellent setup/luthier services (for partscasters in progress); strings and picks galore (esp weird ones); good playtest room for serious buyers plus casual hang space for people who just want to try stuff (and make that comfortable - browsers will be buyers eventually); reasons to come in outside buying (i.e., concerts/album releases for local artists; three members of my band joined for a fuzz building workshop). Maybe do a happy hour / demo night with your brands once a month and you'll give people who aren't in market another reason to come in and leave with little things until they need the big thing.
I was a "John Ericson" at Carter's in 2016, and Zach treated me so nicely. Handed me 1955 Fenders to hold and play, talked to me about guitar electronics and was as cool of a person as anyone could ever be working in a guitar store. For that reason, I'll always support his endeavors. The face-forward, kind, human being approach stands out in a world where we are all behind the screens doing our social interactions and forgetting how awesome it is to hang with other people and talk about our interests, hobbies, and inspirations. TL:DR :)
Rhett - I’m your first follower on Spotify. 🎸 Zach - Your vision for the guitar store sounds so exciting and IMO, is sorely needed. However, I think you need to have at least a moderate pedal selection of the major food groups, because, at minimum, it’s useful to get a sense how a particular guitar and/or amp gets along with certain pedals. Good luck with your projects guys! And btw, I really dig the look, feature set and tones of the Fender Jack White amp. HOWEVER, the black grill cloth does look style-in and makes the logo pop. I agree with Rhett that the white grill looks weird and could it getting really dirty looking. Plus, could end up being a distraction if used on stage. BUT - Green and Yellow complement each other more than Gray and Yellow Rhett.
Agee with you on the Z28 MKII, it has become my go to amp in a cover band. Dial in a great base tone with guitar on 8, and add boost or drive as necessary. Nothing else needed
Came to High Voltage on the day of opening, Zach was (of course) looking dapper in the shacket, and even though I am the quintessential "get to the shop and completely forget how to play" guy, we talked, I felt comfortable, got a pedal, and took probably too many picks lol thanks Zach!
I purchased the Pano Verb a few weeks ago. This is a fantastic amp, very versatile and three-dimensional. That said, I DO wish they had included a black and chrome Fender logo if we wanted to switch it out.
I’m with Rhett about the Pano-Verb cloth, sorry Zach. If a Fender guitar amp has black Tolex, it needs the silver matrix grillecloth to look/feel like a real Fender. I almost think I’d rather them not have done the yellow Fender badge and kept it standard silver, and only changed the faceplate & knobs, though.
Hmmm when I think of reverb listing reviews, especially rating, I think of Fluff from Riffs, Beards, & Gear but also I think of Ryan & Steve over at 60CH. I would say go-ahead as long as you're not directly copying them.
HereThe design process involves so much, and it’s easy to critique things once they’re out in the world. Working in the creative industry, I see this happen often-people feel the need to point out flaws in everyone else’s work but rarely do the same with their own. I really appreciate what Jack White did with Fender. Sure, some things could be better, and others are great, but since I wasn’t the one collaborating with Fender, I don’t know what constraints they were working with. Stay positive, friends-that’s when the best work comes to life!
Love Guitars to Be Played! They gave me a great set up on a LTD TE-1000 and a good deal too. Would love to visit High Voltage some day and agree that the some high end store can come off as uninterested in your business. Stopped by a well known shop in the San Antonio/Austin area and would never go back even though I was very excited to walk through the door. Seemed too busy to talk with me and customers weren’t even allowed to touch the lower end equipment. Best shop I’ve ever been to was Drum City Guitarland in Denver, even talked to me about upcoming releases.
Guitarstobeplayed has some good stuff but there was zero interest in selling a guitar to me. Finally got it. He was nice. But I had to chase after him. I paid in full. Weird guy. Gave him a good review but after he got my money he was really not that nice. Something was off about the whole thing. Done with them. Wish I could remove my review. He has several personalities. He’s just strange. If you don’t care about selling your stuff why are you even there? Although, guitar stores are known for that notorious arrogant attitude. And that’s why we’re forced to go online. I love going into a store and if they’re like the last store that’s no longer here. They assumed I probably couldn’t afford it. Do not judge people by their cover. I’m always going to dress in jeans, guitar tshirts and sneakers. If I look young that’s a good thing. Then when I buy it their attitude changes. They eventually got to know me but tbh they were all hungover, high and rude to each other. They were rude to their bosses and vice versa. I bought a guitar one day there and they said I saved them financially that month. Maybe be nicer to people. I talked to them about nobody will want to buy from you as you yell at them for trying out a pedal and daring not to buy it. Constant fights between customers. Awful. I was waiting on customers I don’t work there. That’s how bad they were. And they tried to sell me stolen goods. No thx. We have a new store I have to gotten to yet. But guitarstobeplayed we are done Josh. I was trying to make a point. If the transaction isn’t a good one we won’t want to play the guitar. They looked at me like they never thought about it. They were all angry they were working there and not famous. I think guitarstobeplayed issue is he’s very self assured he will always be selling gear easily. Don’t assume anything. AH
Have to hand it to Zach on this one, initially wasn’t sold but after seeing it I have to go with Option A. I also agree with adding matching hardware as that wouldn’t have been much added cost or effort for Fender
I vote A, black grill cloth by a MILE. I also think the white is better than gray. The gray introduces an extra color that doesn't go in the jack white palette.
Love the show guys! Just wanted to add a story of a bad experience at a big name guitar store in the Vancouver area. I went in with a great pedal in minty nearly new condition, just looking to sell it for some extra cash to use over the weekend. I ask the guy behind the counter if the store would by my pedal and he responds "It's not a pawn shop." With a smirk on his face like, how dare you suggest such a thing. I was like, "okaaaaay how much store credit might it be worth then?" his response "we don't do store credit. you have to trade up to something that's 30 percent more expensive that what you are trading in." I can understand that the store might have a policy like this to ensure that they make a little more on every trade, but talking to your customers like they have insulted you for even suggesting the idea you would buy used gear, in a store that SELLS used gear, is just crazy. And I'll never be shopping at that store again for how it made me feel.
B looks most like a Jack White amp. A looks the best to me. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the real one until you showed these mockups. Now I want to buy one and put black grille cloth on it
also, the Super Badass distortion is pretty decent. It's not as good as a Keeley El Rey dorado, or even and EVH 5150 Overdrive, but it's not bad either.
I Agree with Zach that by giving the Jack White amp something like a black or white grill cloth would do a lot to have it look and feel like a more unique signature amp. I understand that under the hood it's super spec'd out regardless, but I agree that with it looking mostly like a standard Fender amp but with a couple Yellow bits it does look like he just slapped his name on something that he likes. Changing the grill cloth both 1. helps it stand out from other more standard fender models and 2. keeps the color pallet more limited and focused feeling. I think that A, the black cloth, is the best looking one. The white is very striking but I think the yellow logo gets a little lost in it (now if you gave that yellow Fender logo a like Black border to help it pop against the white, then I'd actually probably say B)
A - Looks cool but less like a Fender and more like a boutique amp. C - Looks like a Fender Artist Model Amp. Either are cool. B just doesn't look right
I agree with Zach 💯 about the PV aesthetic. The missed an opportunity with hardware, tolex, and grill cloth. The bolts holding the chassis should have been powder coated yellow. And considering Jack had an upholstery company a custom grill cloth is a no brainer.
Guys Mesa Lone Star and Special isn't an amp you can dial in as a backline amp.... It takes time and a steep learning curve to master it and I can assure you it's one of the best amps Mesa has ever made... It has cleans to die for therefore I'm quite surprised about Rhett's comments.
Would love to see videos of the boutique guitars compared to the big brand guitars, maybe from employees personal collections so they can describe them and are familiar with how they play.
Congratulations on the new format friends! The new Reverb segment introduced to the channel is an interesting idea but I feel the overall tone comes across as a bit negative. While constructive criticism is valuable, I dont think we are short on negativity on the internet- just my 2 cents.
The Black grill cloth looks better. I agree with the lack of follow through with some of the visual design elements…but I do think the amp design is really, really cool. I would love to play it. Over reaction on the offensive nature of those elements is a little funny 😆?
I played with a guy who always painted over the top of his amp knobs with red, did it for 2 reasons, he always knew which amp was his at the end of a multi band gig and he said it kept anyone from wanted to steal them, cause it was butt ugly. That Jack White amp really does look like somebody just painting the knobs like Zach said. And I like the Black grill cloth version best.
@zach have you used the latest generation of mxr power supplies? I did a friend's board for fun and they are isolated and read what they say they put out, it seems pretty solid after 6 months of play so far... i am definitely ametuer where electronics are concerned though
I saw Addison in the thumbnail and instantly clicked.
It just makes sense. So happy to have him back in my RUclips feed.
I’m with Rhett. The stock Pano Verb looks best 😅. Also I think it’s a freaking cool amp.
Oh, and hi Addison! 👋🏻
Love seeing Addison.. Congrats!!
I will pay top dollar if MXR officially releases the "MXR Super Badass Fuckin' Sweet Ass Overdrive (Man)"
I think you guys made the right decision for the future of the podcast. Great energy!

Agreed
If I am looking for a specific pedal, I will snap it up, but not if it's overpirced....you don't have to take a lowball bid.
"please don't make fun of me"
So you’re the culprit for those segments, good to know
Agree....feels a bit uncool otherwise. Stick with positive.... or just review if someone asks you to... Ala Dip Your Rig.
Yes!! No more interviews! Good move boys!!
YES! Addison! So excited
Rhett couldn’t beat Josh’s slide tone, so he fought back by stealing his employee. Well played.
Good to see Addison here. Great get for the show, I’ve missed his contributions to JHS
Don't bite too much from 60 Cycle Hum's Reverb segment, give it a little mustard
"That's not for sale..." cough, cough, wink, wink Rumble Seat lol
Community aspect is so important!
Jack white amp take: I think the Yellow Fender Logo should have a bold black boarder on it

Agree with Rhett. I’ll take C please. 44:27

What makes a good store?
Engaged knowledgeable staff. Good atmosphere.
That's our aim!
Rhett, you achieved your goal I believe. The album is vibey and musical!
I’m with Rhett on the amp. I think it’s cool.
Zack is right 100% on the grill, the black grill would be amazing
The grill cloth makes a big difference! My vote would be B. The white announces that it’s something different.

C. Jack’s design is fine.

I think the amp looks fine. I bet if they had done more with color changes they would've charged more, so it's just fine the way it is.
56:40 MXR does make a power supply called and Iso-Brick which is isolated, and it has 2 outputs with adjustable voltages up to 18v.
also, the Super Badass distortion is pretty decent. It's not as good as a Keeley El Rey dorado, or even and EVH 5150 Overdrive, but it's not bad either.
I love the Panoverb amp so hard, I must own it soon. I agree they missed on the design. I vote A, black grille cloth, and still prefer B to C.
Yep, grill cloth has got to change. Black or white is sick on the panoverb
B just doesn't look right
Addison!!!!

I would like the black grill cloth with yellow threads.

I like A black grill cloth, nice contrast
The intro always makes me think I’m about to hear “For The Love Of Money” by the O’Jays.
For the amp voting I would go with “A”. But since this is a signature amp, maybe the colors were what Jack wanted???
'old' is determined by what you see on the horizon. The older you get, the more the horizon moves away
What day of the week do you typically do the live version?
Depends! We never record on the same day because of our hectic schedules

Maybe if the Fender logo was Comic Sans? Just sayin'. 🤣 Great show as usual guys. And I wish you nothing but the best with the new store mate. ❤
