This Man Is a Professional Useless Machine Builder

- If there is an easy way to get from point a to point b, Joseph Herscher isn’t going to take that route when he is building a Rube Goldberg machine. The contraptions are purposely designed to complete a simple task in the most roundabout way possible. Remember the Mouse Trap game? That’s a small-scale Rube Goldberg machine. The machines Herscher constructs are much more elaborate. Some feed him. Others slather him with sunscreen, or slip him into bed. One lesson Joseph Herscher has learned from creating these intricate machines-you’ve got to be willing to fail to succeed.

He did ever since 19
Amazing 👍

I would love to see michael reeves in his old days explaining his machines

These are the people that should work for Disney.
So true, but sadly it's just become another industrial complex
@@the-engneer Yup! "Da Mouse" is just a mega-Industrial Machine now. They buy other people's creativity and squeeze all the life out of it.
Work for Disney as what?

My school teacher made my class make these machines. You have no idea how hard it is to have such a simple and chaotic machine work and how happy people are to have a pen error-free run.
Imagine this mans morning sequence
Atleast he doesn't finger his clock to put it off.
Oof
You again!
Do you by chance have a pH account...?
Imagine his mourning sequence
It's not useless, it's creativity
No it IS useless. Just brush your teeth with your hand not the clock.
@@UpcomingJedi Useless, as in there's no worth
He has a job out of it, so it has some use for him
This is the creativity I imagine when my kids are bored. Instead, they just flop around & complain of being bored.
I used to always wants to build machines like this when bored but my parents wouldn’t let me “waste” household objects or buy cheap and simple supplies. They told me I was just silly and nothing like this can actually work. Still do love engineering though I owe a lot of that interest to RUclips channels like Joseph’s machines.
You know... You also a kid. Long time ago.
If you don't have high creativity in your childhood, then.. why expect too much to your children?
Really. Human adults need to think that they were a kid too long time ago. Don't think children can think and act like you do in your adult time.
That usually what happen to some family. The parents neglect the children and think they(the children) can do it by themselves.
These adults don't deserve to raise family actually. They're not matured enough.
Thats me lol
@@nk6197 If you were poor I could understand your parents attitude, but to deny a kid the chance to make something is cruel and very limiting.
When I'm bored I make weird foods from scratch but my family started to forbid me to experiment with my food they said I'm a lazy spoild kid who likes to just eat and play video games there words hurts my feelings

I just remembered that I've actually watched this guy's channel before
I love this channel. It makes me so happy to be able to see people enjoying their passions and following their dreams!
been watching him since 2015 it’s feels good to see him here really shows me how far he’s gone
*Create overly complicated mechanism for simple things*
Programmer: Let me introduce ourself
Dude. This hurts. It reminds me of the time I made my first calculator application.
What I thought was simple, involved *SO... MUCH... PAIN....*
Worth it though.
This man has a whole career because he wanted to make his parents smile, if that is not wholesome, i don't know what is.
I never knew these cute set-ups had a name! I'm so happy to have found out that they have an actual name!
This man is a gift to humanity
I love this guy
PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS WITH HIM
HE IS A TOTAL LEGEND
Just wonderful, wondrous and whimsical. More of this in the world!
I saw first Rube Goldberg machine in "Tom and Jerry"
I very vividly remember watching the one in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and being amazed.
Demonstrates the genius of the trial and error method
Him: in mouse trap the best thing was doing the trap no one cared about the board game
Me: wait it was a board game
It's not useless if it makes you happy 😉 In my California 5th grade school everyone had to design something creative like these. So much fun! I hope people do it with their kids.
The guy who made the Pet Rock: Write that down! Write that down!
I lost it when he said he didn't even do the calculations for the physics and just rolled balls and saw where it went and go from there
This man deserves the golden buzzer
2:46 I want that slide when I got myself a room for my own.
These are mesmerizing, like even if you know it's a trap, you can't turn away until you know how it all works
Man, I love watching things like that just go.
Ahhhhhh asparagus flying through the air! I was in a useless meeting when I was watching and it was super awkward when I bursted out in laughter...
This is exactly the kind of fun video we will miss as GBS shutters is doors.
Man, I used to watch his videos like 3 years ago seeing him here is just, wow.
Imagine accidentally knocing a vase in this guy's house.
“Everyday objects” he says. You think CHUCKY the KILLER DOLL as just a doll is an everyday object.
"Pick up a ball and see where it hits"
I am an online student, and these types of videos just reminds me to calm down and chill
This gent is fantastic!
I've loved these since I was a wee kiddo. My brother and I made simple ones, always using Hot Wheels tracks somewhere in it.
Great feature!
For me, those machines are not useless, they are physics masterpiece
id never expect Joseph to get on this channel
Wow! I love his videos! Also, Great big story is such an amazing channel! I'm sad they ended.
Technically Wallace and Gromit irl..
Neat!
I bet he is the one that makes Pee Wee Herman breakfast meals every morning.
People: endgame was the best crossover in history

That butter scene was really satisfying.
I really love his works!
You have amazing job bro! Thank's for sharing!
My man built ridiculously complicated machines for 31 years just because it made his parents smile
Absolute chad of the century
So much time and effort... I hope you will get tons of views
No one:
That one kid who sits across from who and takes forever when you ask to borrow their pencil:
I love this dude, ive been watching him since i was 6 (im 10 now) and every single thing he demonstrated on this channel, ive watched the original video.
Enjoying old GBS videos is now bitter sweet. 😭
Pitagora- ah, you know the line. Godspeed, Rube. You too, other guy. (I forgot, okay?)
Our brain does hundreds of calculation and assumptions before taking any action and this man is taking really good advantage of that...
I hope he creates a rube Goldberg that will fast forward to 2021.
I was watching and thought of Mouse Trap...and then I saw it in the video. I loved that game.
Making it work on 85th take, this video is unexpectedly inspiring.
It's about time that he got some Media coverage!
His machines are kinda like Doofenschmirtz' Inators lol
Sunscreen dispenser...YES I need that!😁
Now that's patience and persistence right there
These are not useless machines. They are doing something useful. The noteworthy point is that they are over-complicated.
The best ones are the ones that can reset itself while still remaining spectacular. An example would be like attaching a fishing line to a baseball where it still has the property of being thrown but can easily be put back where it was.
Joseph is amazing! Check out his youtube channel, it's a lot of fun
Oh,Joseph is here! Nice!
These are really cool !
It's not useless, it's entertainment.
These "useless" machines brought more value than those reaction videos on RUclips.
Wish I had a mind like that. Find it fascinating... endlessly joyful i imagine!
I just imagine you just flip a light switch at his house and you get a chello playing a cigar upside down
"Connect A to B and no way to connect it" Me using a third-party SDK for the first time
i love how he doesnt give a shit about the science he just has an idea and brute forces it to success
Thank you Great Big Story
Btw, the Japanese kids show they were talking about at the beginning is called “Pythagoras switch” and they make very elaborate and fun to watch machines.
Everyone during quarantine: you dare challenge me?

yes, joseph, love his contraptions
Finally someone decided to make a documentary on this RUclipsr
Oh my god we finally found the video of this guy
I’ll have to try this someday
If it does anything...it’s not useless machine.
A useless machine is something like a machine that shuts itself down.
My goal for the future is to get a job I like as much this guy does.
I want to find want I love and have as much passion in it as this guy does. 😁
this made me smile :) thx
I bet this guy gets all the Rube Goldberg machines chicks. 😏
That is a category of girlfriend now days?

"The Goldberg Variation" is my favorite episode of The X-Files
I’ve never looked up to someone so much
So basically he has good rng and amazing at making contraptions
The spinning light fixture full of both lightbulbs and a turkey leg you have to catch with your mouth made me wince really hard. One wrong move and you've got a mouthful of broken glass.
