This show was so hyped until they released that controversial trailer and now so many hate the show. Damn the person who thought the trailer idea of her saying "Im not letting a man take credit for a woman's work". Why did they think that line was a good idea.

Bogdan 96 my main issues with the writing that she breaks into the Batman’s Cave and makes it seem like it’s all her work. Also not to mention how they villianized him by making him seem like jerk that just abandoned Gotham with no explanation which is totally unlike the character, in the second trailer she was annoyed at guy who gave her pretty sound about not giving money to the homeless so to stick it to him she gives the same homeless woman an expensive watch (which in reality she’d probably sell for drugs or get robbed) and also little off point but the music choice “IM A WOMAN” was a bit dumb because you do see male character’s walking around with a song saying “IM A MAN”. In short the show’s main fault of how the trailers is that they seem to be trying to hard to be focusing on making a strong female character rather than a strong character that happens to be female. Usually platforms that due that are more successful. Prime of example being Zelda in Legend of Zelda Breathe of the Wild and Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just to name a few.

People talk about how bad the trailer is. Let me say this, It is bad. The first episode writing was really bad. I watched it just because Ruby in it. But, now we're on 14th episode and i assure you, it's get better and better. When i thought the last episode was my fav, i watch the newest and it change my mind. Happens all the time. You can write in a gay character without throwing it in people's faces. They need to write it for Batwoman, that just happens to be gay. That could have potential. Instead, they wrote it for a lesbian that just happens to be Batwoman. We want to see the Batwoman character development. Her sexuality is secondary. They tried to hard and it was a real turnoff. That's bad writing, not bad acting. I think Ruby Rose has potential if the writing was good.

I caught some flack but not much. By the early/mid 90s it was well accepted. Acceptance for gay men took a little longer but not drastically so. I am a forensic Psych/criminologist, I started working in the prison system in 2000 and there were openly gay COs. (Corrections Officers) My partner and I filled out Domestic Partnership paperwork and she was covered under my health insurance, car insurance etc. We even filed joint tax returns as domestic partners. We couldn't get legally married but it was minor, easy forms to get the same benefits. I find it astonishing when younger people think we had it rough. We really didn't. It was the generation before us that had it rough. By the time I was getting involved in the gay community in the late 80s, any real fight for rights had already been won. My generation, more or less, just kind of normalized it.

Ironically the character of Kate Kane was created in the 50's as a love interest for Batman to dispel rumors that Batman and Robin were the Ambiguously Gay Duo. Robin also had a love interest created for him a different Batgirl, not Barbara Gordon.
I really love Ruby, she's beautiful, funny and intelligent. I just wish she'd play different roles in some deeper going and serious movies, instead of always portraying the androgynous hot chick.

Having seen Batwoman's appearance in the previous arrowverse crossover, I give thanks to her stunt doubles as they had about as much screen time as Ruby Rose did, to the point that if you see Batwoman on screen it's probably her stunt double.
Thats usually the case given that superheroes do a lot of stunts... The fact that Caity Lotz does a lot of her own stunts is rare. Besides, she said in this interview that she does a few fight sequences.

This is because it allows the director a lot more freedom in how to shoot the scenes and to not have to keep using quick cuts and editing to hide the stunt double's face. It saves time and time is money, and it helps sell the action and allows for a more flowing, realistic fight scene. For examples look at at the single shot fight scene with Chloe Bennet in Agents of SHIELD (probably the best close up gunfights this side of John Wick) or Summer Glau's bar fight which aside from a couple of shots were done by Glau, heck they even had Glau up on the ceiling held up by just her hands and feet. The elevator fight in Captain America had the actor doing most of the fight mostly because almost all of it was in close to medium shots with the actor's face clearly visible, this was confirmed by one of the stunt people who was in the "elevator scene" with him. That scene in Arrow season 1, of Stephen Amell jumping from one roof level down to the next, or him doing pullups and hangs from pipes in the ceiling. The the camera is in front and above him and it's a full body and face shot of him with Felicity and Diggle in the background on the floor below him looking up at Amell and the camera. Heck they even got Katie Cassidy and Paul Blackthorne to do some of their own stunt work. Tricia Helfer whenever possible arranges to do as much of her own motorcycle scenes, or that fight scene between her and Katee Sackhoff.
@@pogo1140 I know its great when an actor can do a lot of their own stunts but its not always an option. Ruby will probably do a fair few fight sequences but she wont be doing flips and tricks. Its also an insurance thing. Even if an actor could pull off a stunt it doesnt mean theyre allowed.

I'm 100% for diversity in entertainment, but a story needs more than just the presence of a lesbian to be a good story. Ya can't just go and call it fresh if everything about the entire show except for the protagonist's sexuality is horribly generic.

This Batwoman is fairly new... So... the opening statement that "we've loved this character for so many years"... what are you talking about? The only reason why this character even exists is because Batman. That's the character we've loved for so many years.
Ironically the character of Kate Kane was created in the 50's as a love interest for Batman to dispel rumors that Batman and Robin were the Ambiguously Gay Duo. Robin also had a love interest created for him a different Batgirl, not Barbara Gordon.

They could have given her a new character instead of batman. Batman has been re-created so many times that I won't even watch this even as fine as she is.

Having seen Batwoman's appearance in the previous arrowverse crossover, I give thanks to her stunt doubles as they had about as much screen time as Ruby Rose did, to the point that if you see Batwoman on screen it's probably her stunt double.
Thats usually the case given that superheroes do a lot of stunts... The fact that Caity Lotz does a lot of her own stunts is rare. Besides, she said in this interview that she does a few fight sequences.

This is because it allows the director a lot more freedom in how to shoot the scenes and to not have to keep using quick cuts and editing to hide the stunt double's face.
It saves time and time is money, and it helps sell the action and allows for a more flowing, realistic fight scene.
For examples look at at the single shot fight scene with Chloe Bennet in Agents of SHIELD (probably the best close up gunfights this side of John Wick) or Summer Glau's bar fight which aside from a couple of shots were done by Glau, heck they even had Glau up on the ceiling held up by just her hands and feet.
The elevator fight in Captain America had the actor doing most of the fight mostly because almost all of it was in close to medium shots with the actor's face clearly visible, this was confirmed by one of the stunt people who was in the "elevator scene" with him.
That scene in Arrow season 1, of Stephen Amell jumping from one roof level down to the next, or him doing pullups and hangs from pipes in the ceiling. The the camera is in front and above him and it's a full body and face shot of him with Felicity and Diggle in the background on the floor below him looking up at Amell and the camera.
Heck they even got Katie Cassidy and Paul Blackthorne to do some of their own stunt work.
Tricia Helfer whenever possible arranges to do as much of her own motorcycle scenes, or that fight scene between her and Katee Sackhoff.
@@pogo1140 I know its great when an actor can do a lot of their own stunts but its not always an option. Ruby will probably do a fair few fight sequences but she wont be doing flips and tricks. Its also an insurance thing. Even if an actor could pull off a stunt it doesnt mean theyre allowed.
